Holy Cross: Coach Paul Pearl Recommits

July 2, 2003

Worcester, MA – Holy Cross athletic director Richard Regan Jr., announced that head men's ice hockey coach Paul Pearl has recommitted to Holy Cross for several years. Pearl, a 1989 graduate of HC, will enter his ninth season at the helm of the Crusaders this upcoming year.

"I received an attractive offer from another institution but there are a lot of positive things about HC," Pearl stated. "After reconsidering everything, I have decided that Holy Cross is where I want to be. I am very happy to recommit to the Crusaders for several years."

Pearl has led HC to a record of 116-114-19, including a mark of 92-73-17 in MAAC conference play, in his eight seasons as head coach. He has directed the Crusaders into the MAAC playoffs four times, capturing the inaugural MAAC championship in 1998-99.

"I am very happy that Paul will be with us for quite a bit longer," said Regan. "He is a great coach, a great recruiter, and perhaps most importantly, he understands what Holy Cross is all about."

Pearl has the third most wins of any HC hockey coach. He captured his 100th career win against Connecticut in the second game of the season last year. Pearl is only the third hockey coach in school history to win 100 or more games in their careers.

The 2003-2004 Crusaders will begin play in a new league this upcoming season. HC is now part of the new Atlantic Hockey League joining American International, Army, Bentley, Canisius, Connecticut, Mercyhurst, Quinnipiac, and Sacred Heart. The league will begin play next season.
