Mercyhurst Hockey Teams Name 2004 Captains

The Mercyhurst College men’s and women’s varsity hockey teams have named their team captains for the 2004-05 season.
The men selected forward Scott Reynolds as captain and forward Rich Hansen and defenseman T.J. Kemp as assistants. Reynolds will be a junior next season while Hansen and Kemp will be seniors. The Lakers finished the 2003-04 season with a 20-14-2 mark, a 16-7-1 conference slate (second), and made the conference playoffs’ final four. The team owned non-conference wins over Ohio State, Western Michigan, and RPI and played Cornell to a 3-3 stalemate.
Reynolds played in all 36 games; nine multiple-point games; only multiple-goal game came against Holy Cross (11-15-04); had seven game scoring streak from early November to early December; tied for fourth in power play goals with four; tied for second in shorthanded goals with two; second in the conference in shorthanded points with three and tied for first in shorthanded goals with two.
Hansen played in all 36 games last season. He had 11 multiple-point games including four of the last six and five of the last eight; only multiple-goal game came at Bentley (2-28-04); second in assists (24); tied for second in points (36); second in power play goals with seven and game-winning goals with three; had a six-game scoring streak snapped in last game of regular season at Canisius (3-6-04); scored game-winning power play goal in conference playoffs against Bentley (3-13-04); tied for fourth in the conference in points with 26, tied for fifth in goals with 11, tied for ninth in game-winning goals with 2, tied for second in power play points with 13, and tied for second in power play goals with six.
Kemp played in 34 of 36 games. He produced eight multiple-point games; led defensemen in points with 26; third in assists (21); tied for third in game-winning goals (2); tied for third in +/- with plus 8; had a goal and assisted on game-winner in 5-4 playoff win over Bentley; tied for first in the conference in defensemen scoring with 17 points, tied for seventh in power play points with 10, and tied for tenth in assists with 14; First Team Atlantic Hockey selection and named the conference’s best defenseman.
The women put together a 26-6-4 campaign last season which included a final #7 ranking nationally, a fourth straight conference regular season title, and a third straight conference playoff championship.
The Lakers named forward Chrissy Yule captain and forwards Lindsay Dellow, Sara McDonald, and Samantha Shirley as assistants. Yule, Dellow, and McDonald will be seniors while Shirley will be a junior.
Yule was a 2003-04 co-captain. She played in all 36 games; scored nine goals and added eleven assists for twenty points; tied for fourth on the team in power play goals with three and third in game-winners with three; had three multiple-point games, one at Bemidji State on October 31, one against Colgate on November 23, and one at Niagara on December 7.
Dellow served as an alternate captain last season. She played in all 36 games; recorded seven goals and ten assists for seventeen points; had one power play goal; four multiple-point games and one multiple-goal game; member of College Hockey America All-Academic Team.
McDonald played in all 36 games. She recorded eight goals and eleven assists for nineteen points; three multiple-point games; tied for first in game-winning goals with four and had the only short-handed goal on the team; scored game-winning goal for second straight year in College Hockey America Championship game; had a scoring streak of four games from early November to mid-November; tied for fourth in the conference in goals, tied for seventh in points, and finished first in both game-winning and shorthanded goals; member of CHA All-Academic Team.
Shirley played in all 36 games. She finished first in goals with 16, second in assists with 20, and second in points with 36; had ten multiple-point games and two multiple-goal games; seven game scoring streak and at least one point in nine of ten games from early January to early February; had three assists in 4-0 College Hockey America semifinal win against Wayne State; was a four-time CHA Offensive Player of the Week (11/10, 12/8, 1/13, 1/27); finished fourth in the conference in points, tied for first in goals, and tied for tenth in assists; chosen to CHA First Team and was a member of CHA All-Academic Team.
Mercyhurst has been chosen to host next season’s College Hockey America (CHA) Playoffs, set for March 12 through March 14, 2005, at the Ice Center.
