Atlantic Hockey Alumni Report

Since the Atlantic Hockey Association was formed prior to the 2003-04 season, 16 former players went from playing Division I hockey to the professional ranks. Here is a recap of how those players are doing for their respective teams:


Andy Franck - Mercyhurst (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Peguins - AHL; Wheeling Nailers - ECHL) - Andy has signed a contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL on January 13 and is now the property of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Franck was loaned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on January 26, but was returned to Wheeling on January 30 after not appearing in a game.

T.J. Kemp - Mercyhurst (Peoria Rivermen - AHL; Iowa Stars - AHL; Reading Royals - ECHL) - T.J. was the second player this season to sign a PTO with an AHL squad. Kemp played in three games for the Rivermen over this past weekend without scoring a point as Peoria posted a 1-2 record in those three contests. T.J. was released from his PTO on January 24 to participate in the ECHL All-Star Game. After pariticipating in the ECHL All-Star Game, Kemp was signed to a PTO with the Iowa Stars on January 29. T.J. played that night in a game versus Grand Rapids without registering a point.

Eric Nelson - Connecticut (Lowell Lock Monster - AHL, Columbia Inferno - ECHL) - Nelson became the first Atlantic Hockey alum to play in the AHL, but Nelson was release from his PTO by the Lowell Lock Monsters on November 22. He saw action in three games for Lowell. Eric saw action in three games this past week and had an assist in a 7-3 loss to Gwinnett on Sunday. Overall, Nelson has played in 38 games for the Inferno, while scoring four goals and adding five assists for nine points. Columbia, which is in eighth place in the South Division with 33 points, is currently 14-25-5 on the season.

Daryl Pierce - Canisius (Greenville Grrrowl - ECHL) - Pierce has been playing with the Grrrowl this season, appearing in 39 games, while scoring a pair of goals and adding seven assists for nine points. In three games this past week, Pierce did not register a point. The Grrrowl currently sit in third place in the South Division in the American Conference with a 25-12-2 mark for 52 points.

Josh Zavitz - Canisius (Toledo Storm - ECHL) - Zavitz since leaving Canisius in the spring, has been playing with the Toldeo Storm. The Storm are currently 20-11-5 for 45 points in the North Division of the American Conference good for third place. This past week, Josh has dished out an assist in a 4-3 overtime win versus Reading last night. Overall, Zavitz has played in 34 games, scoring goal and handing out four assists for five points.

Kevin LaPointe - Sacred Heart (Muskegon Fury - UHL) - Kevin saw action in one games this past week, with an 18 save effort, inclduing stopping all five shootout attempts in a 5-4 shootout win over Roanoke. LaPointe has posted a 13-2-2 record with a 2.50 GAA, good for sixth in the UHL, and a .911 saves percentage in 17 games for the Central Division leading Fury, who have a 32-5-4 mark for 68 points.

David Wrigley - Mercyhurst (Muskgon Fury - UHL) - David, who was named the Easton UHL Rookie of the Month for December after scoring 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists in 14 games. Wrigley also was named to the UHL All-Star Game for Team Gatorade and did not register a point in a 9-7 loss to Team Aquafina.  David played in three games for the Fury, scoring goal in a 5-4 shootout win over Roanoke. Wrigley leads all rookies with 49 points and 25 assists, while adding 24 goals, as the Fury lead the Central Divsion with a 32-5-4 record.

Nolan Brown - Mercyhurst (Lubbock Cotton Kings - CHL) - Nolan appeared in three games this past week, handing without notching a point. Brown, a defensemen, has dished out four assists in 38 games for the Cotton Kings, who are currently in third place in the Southwest Division with 35 points and a 17-20-1 mark.

Mike Carter - Mercyhurst (Odessa Jackalopes - CHL) - Carter has seen action in 34 games this season with the Jackalopes notching seven goals and adding 20 assists for 27 points. In four games this past week, Mike scored a pair of goals and added five assists. Carter dished out three helpers in a 7-2 win over Lubbock and netted a goal and handed out an assist in a 3-2 win over Amarillo. Odessa currently leads the Southwest Division with a 22-13-5 record for 49 points.

Rich Hansen - Mercyhurst (Amarillo Gorillas - CHL) - Hansen has played in 33 games for Amarillo, which is in second place in the Southwest Division with a 18-17-3 mark for 39 points. This past week the Gorillas played three games posting a 1-2 mark, as Hansen potted a goal and added three assists. In a 7-5 loss to Wichita, he scored a goal and handed out a helper. Overall, Rich has scored 10 goals and added 22 assists for 32 points for Amarillo.

Beau McLaughlin - Connecticut (Fort Worth Brahmas - CHL) - McLaughlin this past week tallied a hat trick in a 4-3 win over Boisser-Shreveport Saturday night, while the Brahmas went 1-1 during the week. Beau has played in 28 games scoring five markers, while adding five assists for 10 points. Forth Worth is currently in fourth place in the Northeast Divsion with a 13-22-5 record for 31 points.

Simon St. Pierre - Bentley (Youngstown Steelhounds - CHL) - Simon saw action in three games this past week, as the Steelhounds went 0-3. St. Pierre came in relief in two contests playing 49:50, giving up three goals, while making 13 saves. In his only start of the week, Simon stopped 31 shots in a 3-2 loss to Wichita.  St. Pierre has posted a 4-6-0 record with a 3.73 GAA and a .868 saves percentage in 13 appearances for the Steelhounds, who are 15-23-2 in third place in the Northeast Divsion with 32 points.

Jeff Dams - Holy Cross (Huntsville Havoc - SPHL) - In a week where Hunstville went 0-2, Dams notched an assists in a 4-2 loss to Columbus last Thursday. Overall, Dams has netted nine goals and added 16 assists for 25 points. Hunstville is currently in fifth place with a 17-16 -2 mark for 36 points.

Ron Miller - American International (Jacksonville Barracudas - SPHL) - Miller was signed by the Barracudas on November 15 and after playing in five games and scoring a pair of goals was release on November 29.

Mike Kirby - Mercyhurst (Pee Dee Cyclones - SPHL) - Kirby was recently signed by Pee Dee on January 11, appearing in seven games this season posting a goal and adding three assists for four points. In the Cyclones lone game of the week, a 5-2 loss to Fayetteville, Mike did not register a point. Pee Dee has accumulated 28 points on a 12-20-4 mark good for sixth place.

Bryan Worsoz - Canisius (Toledo Storm - ECHL; Austin Ice Bats - CHL; Pee Dee Cyclones - SPHL) - Worosz played in three games in net for the Ice Bats, posting a 1-2-0 mark with a 4.37 GAA and a .870 saves percentage, but was waived by the Ice Bats on December 1. Bryan was signed as an emergency goaltender on December 9 by the Toledo Storm of the ECHL. Worosz has seen action in a pair of contests, posting a 3.81 GAA and an .878 saves percentage. The Storm currently sit in fourth pace in the North Division with a 13-10-3 mark and 29 points. He was released by the Storm on January 3. Three days later Worosz was signed by the Cylcones and has appeared in four games, posting a 1-3-0 record with a 6.56 GAA and a .842 saves percentage. In one game last week Bryan made 37 saves in a 6-2 loss to Florida. Worosz was released by the Cyclones on January 26.
