Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week
Brad Robert - Army
Senior, Goaltender, Cassville, N.Y.
Brad Roberts posted two wins over service-academy rival Air Force to run his career record to a school-best 5-2 during his four-year career. Roberts stopped a combined 45 of 48 shots in the two games for a .938 save percentage. One of the three goals he allowed came on a penalty shot in the third period of Saturday night’s contest. That tally was the first goal he allowed all weekend, breaking a 110:45 shutout streak. Roberts surpassed 5,000 career minutes played in Friday night’s win and upped his career record against service academies to an astounding 8-2.

Bear Trapp - Sacred Heart
Freshman, Froward, Regina, SASK
Trapp had the most productive weekend of his young career in his first stint on the Pioneers top line, tallying four points over two games, including two game winning goals. Friday night he scored what turned out to be the game winning goal in Sacred Heart’s 6-4 win over AIC. The goal was Trapp’s second of the season and the first game winner of his career. Saturday night Trapp had one goal and two assists in the Pioneers 8-1 throttling of AIC. He assisted on the Pioneers first goal and scored the second goal, which turned out to be the game winner. For the season, Trapp now has three goals and four assists.
Weekly Honor Roll
Jeremy Leroux, American International (Jr., F,
Lunenburg, ONT) - Notched two goals and an assist Friday against
Sacred Heart.
Seth Beamer, Army (Sr., F, Merrimack, N.H.) - Army’s senior captain scored three goals and posted one assist for a four-point weekend in an emotional two-game sweep of service-academy rival Air Force. His first-period tally on Friday night proved to be the game winner as Army shut out Air Force. He also set up the game-winning goal Saturday night in overtime, lifting the Black Knights to the 4-3 win. Beamer also scored 21 seconds into the third period to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage.
Paul Markarian, Bentley (Sr., F, Quincy, Mass.)
- Scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in
Bentley’s 4-3 win over Canisius on Friday night. He the
team’s active leader with 66 career points.
Joey Coccimiglio, Canisius (Jr., F, Sault Ste. Marie, ONT) - Playing in just his third and fourth games of the season, the junior forward had a five-point weekend at Bentley with two goals and three assists against the Falcons. Coccimiglio tied his career high in points (3) and assists (2) in Saturday night’s win.
Ryan Hatch, Canisius (Fr., G, Medway, Mass.) - In his first start since Oct. 28, Hatch picked up the win against Bentley and recorded his first career assist. He stopped 33 of the 36 shots and made 15 of his saves in the third period.
Shane McAdam, Holy Cross (Fr., D, Hamilton, ONT) - McAdam had a goal and an assist in the weekend series with Mercyhurst. He scored his goal in the 10-3 win on Friday night, while he added an assist on Saturday night.
Tyler Small, Mercyhurst (Fr., G, Kincardine, ONT) - For the second time this season Small came up big to earn the Lakers a split of a road weekend series, this one in the conference. This time, he made 32 saves as Mercyhurst salvaged the second game of a weekend set at Holy Cross with a 4-3 win Saturday. Small remained perfect at 3-0 in his young collegiate career. His goals-against-average (2.67) and save percentage (.924) are also tops on the team. Small helped the Lakers split at Michigan Tech in early October, stopping 41 shots in a 5-2 victory.
Alexandre Parent, Sacred Heart (So., F, Boisbriand, QUE) - Parent was the leading point scorer on the Pioneers this weekend, in a pair of games where several players compiled big stats. Friday night Parent recorded a four point game, scoring a shorthanded goal that gave the Pioneers a lead early in the third period. More importantly Parent had assists on three Pioneer goals, including Bear Trapp’s game winner and the empty netter that sealed the victory for SHU in the final seconds. Saturday night Parent had two more assists, including setting up Trapp’s eventual game winner in the first period. Parent now has one goal and a team high eight assists on the season.
Team Notes
American International: The Yellow Jackets scored four goals in a game for the second time this year Friday against Sacred Heart. AIC scored four or more goals only four times all last season.
Army: Army swept service-academy rival Air Force for the second time in four years and just the fourth time in series history … the Black Knights shut out the Falcons, 3-0, Friday night and then salvaged a 4-3 overtime win Saturday … the OT win extended Army’s unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1) after beginning the 2005-06 campaign with seven losses … Army’s senior class pulled off its second sweep of Air Force and finishes its career with a 5-3 record, becoming the first hockey class to post a winning record against the Falcons … goalie Brad Roberts concludes his career with a school-record 5-2 mark against Air Force … three of Army’s last four contests have gone into overtime with the Black Knights inking a 1-1-1 ledger in those tilts … Seth Beamer scored three goals and posted an assist over the weekend … Roberts played all 121 minutes in goal, moving his career total to 5,241 … Roberts lists fourth among active goalies in the NCAA in career minutes played … he is one of only four goaltenders in the nation to have logged more than 5,000 career minutes played … Roberts has 2,329 career saves and stands 529 shy of the school record.
Bentley: Bentley’s 2-1-1 start to conference play is the best for the Falcon’s at the Division I level. Bentley’s three game-winning streak, which was snapped with a loss on Saturday, marked the first time that Bentley had obtained a point in three consecutive games since a four-game unbeaten streak that stretched from December 5, 2003 to January 6, 2004. Also the back-to-back wins that Bentley recorded with the win on Friday night was the first time that Bentley won consecutive games since March 5-6, 2004. That weekend Bentley beat Army 5-1 and then Holy Cross 1-0 in overtime the following night. The win on Friday night left Bentley one-win shy of reaching the 300 win total, the win was the 299th for Bentley since it began varsity play in 1977-78. The pair of games against Canisius this weekend were about as different as could be, on Friday night the teams combined for 7 penalties (14 minutes), one power play goal and 56 shots, while on Saturday night there were a combined 41 penalties (82 minutes), eight power play goals and 77 shots attempted.
Canisius: The Griffs had one of their most productive offensive nights of recent memory in Saturday’s 7-3 win over Bentley, which was also coach Dave Smith’s first conference road win at Canisius. The seven goals scored were the most since Nov. 2, 2001 in a 9-2 win against Bentley. The six power play goals for Canisius doubled the team’s total on the season. Eight Golden Griffins set or tied career highs in the game. Saturday night was the first time all year the Griffs won after trailing after the first period. Junior forward Joey Coccimiglio continues to play well as he has seven points in four games since returning to the Griffs lineup. After going 88 games without scoring a goal senior defenseman Brandon Irish-Baker continued to find the back of the net as he scored in both games this weekend and now has three goals in the past three games. He also had a four-point weekend against the Falcons.
Holy Cross: Senior co-captain Tyler McGregor had five goals in the weekend series with Mercyhurst. He netted a hat trick in the 10-3 win on Friday night, while on Saturday night he scored two goals. He now has 95 career points, making him five shy of becoming the 36th Crusader to reach 100 career points...Senior goaltender Tony Quesada made 33 saves in the 10-3 win over Mercyhurst on Friday night. Quesada now has 43 career wins, making him just two shy of tying Paul Pijanowski’s school-record of 45 (1984-87)...The 10 goals scored by the Crusaders on Friday night marked the first time that they have scored 10 goals or more since defeating Iona, 11-0, on February 4, 1998.
Mercyhurst: Junior forward Scott Champagne had a goal and an assists each night to extend his scoring streak to 27 games dating to last season. His third period goal Saturday tied the game and was his team-leading seventh of the season. Senior forward Mike Pochatek saw action for only the second time this season in Saturday’s game and registered the first goal of the game. The marker was the third in his 57-game career. Senior forward Erik Johnson scored his first goal of the season Friday. Junior defenseman Jamie Hunt had five assists over the weekend, including four helpers Saturday, and moved into a tie with Champagne for the team scoring lead with 16 points. First-place Mercyhurst will entertain second-place Sacred Heart next weekend. The Lakers lead the all-time series 9-7-2 and went 2-0-1 against the Pioneers last season.
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers completed their second weekend sweep of the season, taking a pair of games from American International. Friday night, the Pioneers won 6-4 in a wild game in Springfield. Sophomore Alexandre Parent had a goal and three assists and freshman Bear Trapp scored had two goals and two assists and Trapp had a goal and two assists. Saturday the Pioneers picked up where the left off Friday night, scoring four goals in the first period en route to an 8-1 win over the Yellow Jackets in Milford. O’Brien leads the team with 11 points, including a team high five goals along with six assists. Parent is second on the team with nine points, one goal and a team high eight assists. Junior Jason Smith is third in Atlantic Hockey with a 2.20 goals against average. The Pioneers (4-2-1, 4-1-1 AH) will travel to Erie, PA this weekend for a pair of games against defending champion Mercyhurst.
