Sacred Heart Men’s Ice Hockey Team to Participate in Cancer Fundraiser

FAIRFIELD, CT – Sacred Heart University Men’s Ice Hockey Coach Shaun Hannah announced today the team’s plans to participate in a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation over the next three weeks.  Each Pioneer will be soliciting donations towards the team’s goal of raising $10,000 for cancer research.  The fundraising will culminate on Thursday, March 9, at The Field in Bridgeport.  Beginning at 7:00 PM, all 30 members of the team will have their heads shaved as a sign of solidarity with the children who typically lose their hair from chemotherapy.

The Pioneers are part of a collective group named Team Brent, in honor of Brent McCreesh, a local three year old boy who has been battling Stage IV neuroblastoma since September 2004.  To find the fundraising page of each Pioneer, follow the link to Team Brent at http://www.stbaldricks.org/team_detail.asp?id=1154.  Each participant on Team Brent is listed at the bottom of the page.  All donations can be made securely online and an e-mail confirmation of the donation will be sent by St. Baldrick’s.

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children and in 1999, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation was established to create awareness about the devastating effects of cancer in children and the need for more research in this area.  Each year around St. Patrick’s Day, fundraising events are held around the world and since its founding, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has raised more than $12 million.  For additional information, please visit http://www.stbaldricks.org.
