Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week


James Sixsmith - Holy Cross
 

Junior, Forward, Alexandria, Va. 

Sixsmith earned the Most Valuable Player of the 2006 Atlantic Hockey Tournament as he tallied six points over the two games. In the semifinal victory over UConn, he had two goals and an assist, while in the title game versus Bentley he scored a goal and added two assists. Sixsmith became the 37th Crusader to reach 100 career points. He now has a total of 104 points.


Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week


Tony Quesada - Holy Cross
 

Senior, Goaltender, South Freeport, Maine

Quesada made 67 saves on 70 shots this weekend. In the 3-1 win over UConn in the Atlantic Hockey semifinals, he made 37 saves, while in the championship game against Bentley he stopped 30 shots. He was named to the all-tournament team. Quesada is now 21-5-2 on the season. Quesada’s 21 wins is a school record for wins in a season.


Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week


Tom Dickhudt - Bentley
 

Freshman, Forward, Woodbury, Minn. 

On the weekend, Dickhudt notched three assists in the Falcons’ semifinal win over Mercyhurst. His third and final assist came on the game-winner just 58 seconds into the second overtime frame. For his performance in the AHA Tournament, Dickhudt was named to the All-Tournament Team.


Weekly Honor Roll


Jaye Judd - Bentley (So., D, Brandon, MAN) - Judd scored the first two goals of the season in the double overtime semifinal win against Mercyhurst. He tied the contest with his first goal of the game at 2:55 of the third period and netted the game-winner 58 seconds into the second extra session. Judd was named to the All-Tournament Team for his effort.


Pierre Napert-Frenette - Holy Cross (Sr., F, Bathurst, NB) - Napert-Frenette earned a spot on the Atlantic Hockey All-Tournament team as he tallied six points in the two games. He had a goal and two assists in each game.


Jamie Hunt - Mercyhurst (Jr., D, Calgary, ALB) - Hunt was a mainstay on defense for the Lakers, being named to the All-Tournament squad for his performance in the championships. He netted the first goal in the 3-2 double overtime loss to Bentley in the semifinals and finished the game with six shots on net.


Tyler Small - Mercyhurst (Fr., G, Kincardine, ONT) - Small stopped 53 of the 56 shots he faced in the double overtime loss to Bentley in the semifinals. He made 17 saves in the third period, enabling the Lakers to tie the score and send the contest into the extra sessions. He added 11 saves in the first period and first overtime frame.

Bentley: Bentley advanced to the Atlantic Hockey Championship game with a 3-2 double overtime win over second-seeded Mercyhurst Friday night in the Atlantic Hockey semifinals … It was the second consecutive double overtime game that Bentley had won, the Falcons beat Army 4-3 in double overtime the previous weekend in the AHA Quarterfinals … the Cinderella story ended Saturday night as the Falcons fell 5-2 to Holy Cross in the AHA Championship game … it was Bentley’s first appearance in a league championship game at the Division I level … Bentley finished the season at 15-17-2 and tied the school’s Division I record with 15 wins and set a new program record in terms of winning percentage at the Division I level (.473) … Sophomore defenseman Jaye Judd and freshman forward were named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Tournament Team. Judd scored a pair of goals Friday’s win over Mercyhurst including the game-winner 58 seconds into the second overtime, they were Judd’s first two goals of the season … Bentley goaltender Ray Jean set an Atlantic Hockey Tournament Record for minutes played despite being lifted prior to the third period of the championship game. Jean’s total for the three games played of 215:28 smashed Mike Ella’s record of 186 from 2005 … Earlier in the week senior defenseman Josh Chase was named to the All-Atlantic Hockey Second Team, becoming the first Falcon to be named to an All-Conference team since 2002-03 when Simon St. Pierre was named to the MAAC All-Conference Second Team … Freshmen Anthony Canzoneri and Jeff Gumaer were named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team and became the first Falcon freshmen to receive all-rookie honors since current seniors Paul Markarian and Ryan Mayhew were selected to the MAAC All-Rookie team in 2002-03 … With a pair of assists in the AHA Championship game, Canzoneri became the first Falcon rookie to score 30 points in a season at the Division I level and his team-high season total of 31 points is fifth best for any Falcon at the Division I level. His team-high 23 assists are the second most for a Falcon at the Division I level … Gumaer’s goal in the AHA Championship game was his team-high 16th of the season and the second highest single season total at the Division I level in school history … Paul Markarian and Josh Thompson finished their Bentley careers as the all-time leaders in games played with 131 …. Josh Chase finishes his collegiate career having played in a school record 107 consecutive games, a streak that dates back to his freshman season, while Kyle Larman finishes his junior season having played in all 103 games during his time at Bentley … Seven Bentley players appeared in all 37 games this season; the 37 games played is a new school single season record … Paul Markarian and Ryan Mayhew finish their careers as the only Bentley players to score 30 goals and record 40 assists at the Division I level. Markarian finishes third in school history at the Division I level with 75 career points (32 goals and 43 assists), while Mayhew is fourth with 72 points (32 goals, 40 assists). The 32 goals for each player leaves them tied for the school record at the Division I level … Brendan McCartin and Ryan Lessnau both recorded 65 career points while wearing a Bentley sweater, a total that leaves them tied for fifth at the Division I level. McCartin reached 65 points in three years after he played his freshman season at Miami University, while Lessnau reached the total in just three and a half years as he did not join Bentley until midway through his freshman season … Ray Jean in his first season at Bentley recorded 12 wins, second highest total at Division I level in school history, and played over 1720 minutes good enough for second most all-time at Bentley. His final save percentage of .916 is the best all-time at Bentley and his 2.86 GAA is the second best all-time in school history and just the second season in which a Bentley goaltender had a GAA under 3.00 at the conclusion of the season. He finished the season with exactly 900 saves; the first time that a Bentley goaltender has reached 900 saves in a season … Bentley’s 3.05 GAA for the season is the best in school history.


Holy Cross: With its 5-2 win over Bentley in the Atlantic Hockey Championship Game, Holy Cross won its second title in three years and earned its second NCAA Tournament bid in three years. Holy Cross is now 7-1 all-time in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament. Holy Cross’ 26 wins is a new school record. Both the 1998-99 and 2003-04 teams each won 22 games. The senior class has been a part of 81 wins, which are the most wins in a four year period in the program’s history. Senior goaltender Tony Quesada is now 21-5-2 on the season. Quesada’s 21 wins is a school record for wins in a season. The record was previously held by Mark Young who set the record of 19 in the 1979-80 season. His .928 save percentage this season is currently a single-season school record. Quesada currently owns five of the six all-time career goaltending records at Holy Cross. He ranks first all-time for save percentage (.916), goals against average (2.47), wins (60), games played (103) and minutes played (5913:08), while he is second in saves (2638). The Crusaders have never faced Minnesota. Junior James Sixsmith became the 37th Crusaders to reach 100 career points. He now has 104 points.


Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst dropped a 3-2 double overtime decision to Bentley in the Semifinal Round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament this past weekend. This was the first lost in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament the Lakers suffered against the Falcons. The loss to Bentley ended a five game winning streak for Mercyhurst.
