Fargo Joins Canisius Coaching Staff
Canisius College hockey coach Dave Smith announced
today that Greg Fargo has joined his coaching staff for the 2006-07
season. Fargo replaces former assistant coach Chris Bernard, who
became the head coach at Western New England College in April.
"We are excited to have Greg on board," Smith said. "He is
professional and outgoing, which fits in well with our other
coaches [Mike Mankowski and Grant Ledyard] to give us a great
staff."
Fargo will be responsible for coaching the team's goaltenders along
with assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program,
including recruiting, video operations and other on-campus
duties.
"I'm excited about my first collegiate coaching opportunity," Fargo
said. "It's great to come to a program that is continuing to grow.
I'm looking forward to being a part of that success."
A 2006 graduate of Elmira College with a degree in adolescent
education, the 23-year-old Fargo played 88 games in net for the
Soaring Eagles, posting a 45-29-9 career record. During his senior
season, the Kingston, Ont. native recorded the lowest goals against
average (2.04) and highest save percentage (.926) in school
history. He also became the school's leader in career saves (2,565)
and minutes played (5122:53).
Elmira advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four during Fargo's
senior season and NCAA quarterfinals during his freshman season.
The Soaring Eagles won the ECAC West tournament title in Fargo's
freshman and senior seasons. He was named the ECAC West Tournament
Most Outstanding Player as a senior.
Canisius returns 15 players, including its top three scorers, from
the 2005-06 team. The season starts with an exhibition game against
Waterloo Oct. 4, at the Buffalo State Sports Arena with the regular
season beginning Oct. 7, against Robert Morris.
