Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week
Eric Ehn - Air Force
Junior, Forward, Dexter, Mich.
Broke the AHA record for points in a season in conference games with 45 ... Hit 60 points on the season in all games, the first Falcon to have 60 or more since Bob Sajevic had 64 points in 1979-80 ... Assisted on three of AFA's five goals, including Ramsey's game winner ... Has scored in four straight games and now has 13 points in his last six games ... Leads the nation in scoring ... Led AFA to a sweep at AIC to secure home ice in the first round of the playoffs.
Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week
Owen Meyer - Army
Freshman, Forward, LIttleton, Colo.
Meyer tallied four points this past weekend as the Black Knights split there series with Sacred Heart. He scored a goal in Friday's 5-3 setback and followed that performance with a goal and two assists in Saturday's 4-2 victory. Both of his goals came on the power play and it upped his season total to ten. The Littleton, Colo., native how has 23 points this season and ranks 20th among the nation's rookies.

Jeff Hajner, Air Force (Fr., F, Las
Vegas, Nev.) - Assisted on Ramsey's game-winner on Friday
... Assisted on Ehn's goal on Saturday that set a new league record
for points ... Has scored 16 points in his last 16 games since
Christmas ... Has a four-game point streak.
Andrew Volkening, Air Force (Fr., G, Genoa, Ill.)
- First start since Nov. 26 ... Stopped 20 of 21 shots in
first win since Nov. 4 vs. RIT.
Luke Flicek, Army (Jr., F, Burnsville, Minn.) -
Flicek registered two goals and an assist this past weekend as Army
split its weekend series with Sacred Heart. He recorded all three
of his points in Saturday's 4-2 win. He notched the game winner in
the final minutes of the second period and tallied an insurance
gaol in the third. Flicek also picked an assist on Owen Meyer's
goal in the first that gave Army a 1-0 lead. The junior forward
leads the Black Knights with 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points
this season.
Ray Jean, Bentley (Sr., G, Randolph, Maine) - Jean
made 34 saves, including 14 in the third period, to earn the win
for Bentley on Saturday night.
Marc Menzione, Bentley (Fr., F, Darien, Ill.) -
Menzione recorded his first career three-point game with a goal and
two assists in Bentley's 7-6 win over RIT on Saturday night.
Dain Prewitt, Bentley (So., F, Westminster, Colo.)
- Prewitt scored two goals, including the game-winner, and
added two assists in the Falcons' 7-6 win over RIT on Saturday
night. It was the first four-point performance from a Bentley
player this season.
Kyle Bushee, Canisius (Jr., D, Otsego, Mich.) -
Bushee scored the game-tying goal in the team's 2-2 draw against
Mercyhurst on Feb. 24. Bushee's goal came with 27 seconds remaining
in the contest and was his third in the last seven games.
Andrew Loewen, Canisius (Fr., G, Winnipeg, MAN) -
Loewen stopped 44 of 46 shots in the 2-2 tie against Mercyhurst.
Included in those 44 saves were seven in the overtime period
against the Lakers. The freshman has stopped 115 shots in the last
three games.
Matt Scherer, Connecticut (Sr., F, Seattle, Wash.)
- Scherer tallied four points in a weekend that saw the
Huskies defeat Holy Cross twice to secure the No. 3 seed in the
Atlantic Hockey Tournament. In Friday night's 4-2 home win over the
Crusaders, Scherer scored his 20th goal of the season, becoming
just the 26th player in UConn hockey history to record 100 points.
Needing to win Saturday night's game to clinch the No. 3 seed,
Scherer collected three points in helping guide the Huskies to a
5-2 road victory over Holy Cross. In that game, Scherer recorded
two assists and his team-leading 21st goal of the season.
James Sixsmith, Holy Cross (Sr., F, Alexandria, Va.)
- Sixsmith had a three-point weekend with two goals and
one assist in the home-and-home series with Connecticut. On Friday,
he scored the first goal of the game, while on Saturday he
contributed to both Holy Cross goals as he scored the first and
assisted on the second. Sixsmith's 30 assists this season ties
current San Jose Shark Patrick Rissmiller for the school's Division
I single-season assists record. His 17 goals also lead the team.
Scott Champagne, Mercyhurst (Sr., F, Cornwall, ONT)
- Scored his 9th goal of the season on a power play early
in the second period to tie Saturday's game with Canisius at 1-1.
Champagne is now 10th in career points with 140.
Mike Ella, Mercyhurst (Sr., G, Schomberg, ONT) -
Ella made back-to-back starts for the first time this
season and made 29 saves in a 2-2 tie with Canisius Saturday.
Neil Graham, Mercyhurst (Fr., F, Calgary, ALB) -
Graham scored his 4th goal of the season to put the Lakers ahead of
Canisius 2-1 in the second period Saturday night.
Anton Kharin, RIT (Fr., F, Twin Lake, Mich.) -
Kharin had three points this past weekend versus Bentley. On Friday
the freshman forward had a goal as RIT clinched the AHA regular
season title, 3-0. He followed that up with two goals in a 7-6 loss
on Saturday.
Dave Jarman, Sacred Heart (Fr., F, Toronto, ONT) -
Jarman had another goal Friday night, his 10th tally of the year.
Jarman leads all SHU rookies with 10 goals, 10 assists and 20
points on the season.
Alexandre Parent, Sacred Heart (Jr., F, Boisbriand, QUE)
- Parent was the offensive spark in the Pioneers win over
Army at Tate Rink Friday night, tally two goals and two assists. He
scored the third goal and then added an empty net tally to seal the
victory. He also assisted on the Pioneers first goal. Parent is
second on the team with 15 goals, 23 assists and 38 points.
Jason Smith, Sacred Heart (Sr., G, St. Lambert, QUE)
- Smith made 20 saves Friday night to earn the victory. It
was his 37th career win, setting a new Sacred Heart school record
for wins by a goaltender in a career.
Team Notes
Air Force: Will host a playoff game for the first
time in school history on March 10 vs. Holy Cross ... Has won three
straight games, including the team's first road sweep since Jan.
5-6 at Mercyhurst ... Has won the last three games by a combined
score of 16-3 ... 16 Division I wins are a new school record,
breaking the mark of 14 set several times ... Eric Ehn broke the
AHA record for points in a season in conference games with 45 ...
Ehn hit 60 points on the season in all games, the first Falcon to
have 60 or more since Bob Sajevic had 64 points in 1979-80 ...
Ehn's 36 assists are the most by a Falcon since defenseman Tom Uren
had 39 assists in 1976-77 ... Ehn's 24 goals tie the most since
Frank Daldine had 28 in 1984-85 ... Ehn leads the nation in scoring
with 60 points, four points ahead of T.J. Hensick of Michigan ...
Ehn has scored 13 points in his last six games and has scored in 28
of the 36 games with 15 multiple-point and eight multiple-goal
games ... Ehn and Ramsey are first Falcons to combine for more than
100 points in 25 years ... Ehn and Ramsey are the first Falcons to
each score 20 or more goals in 25 years ... The senior class has
set a new school record for league wins with 32. The Class of 2006
won six as freshmen (CHA), five as sophomores (CHA), eight as
juniors (CHA) and 13 this season (AHA )... Andrew Volkening made
his first start since Nov. 26 ... Volkening stopped 20 of 21 shots
in first win since Nov. 4 vs. RIT ... Freshman Jeff Hajner had
three points (1-2-3) in the AIC series and has a four-game scoring

American International: AIC honored five seniors
playing in their last home games Saturday, goalie Matt Tourville
(Sandwich, Mass.), defensemen Jeremy Leroux (Lunenburg, Ontario)
and Ben Ellsworth (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) and forwards Jeason Lecours
(Sherbrooke, Quebec) and Mark Fuqua (Shelby Township, Mich.) ...
Jereme Tendler's (Viceroy, SK) 27 points thus far this season are
the most by an AIC player since Guillaume Caron had 31 in 2003-04
... the Yellow Jackets extended their streak of games with at least
one goal to 21, the longest since 2001-02 ... since January 11 the
Yellow Jackets have earned the seventh-highest point total in
Atlantic Hockey play, besting Canisius, Bentley and Holy Cross over
that span ... AIC's first-round playoff game with Canisius will
mark the first time the two teams have squared off in the post
season since the Griffs posted a 7-4 win in the 1999 MAAC
Tournament ... AIC split a pair of games with Canisius this season.
Army: The Black Knights split their final series
of the regular season this past weekend with Sacred Heart. They
lost on Friday night at Tate Rink, 5-3, and then rebounded to win
at the Milford Ice Pavilion on Saturday, 4-2 ... it marked the
first time Army had won in Milford since Jan. 19, 1999, a span of
11 games ... it also improved Army's record on the road this season
to 7-7-1, marking the first time since the 1985-86 season that a
team has finished with a record of .500 or better on the road ...
Owen Meyer scored two goals and two assists during the series,
giving him 23 points this season for a 0.79 average which ranks
20th in the country among freshmen ... Luke Flicek registered three
points this weekend bumping his team leading total to 33, 14 goals,
19 assists, moving him to 48th in the NCAA in points per game
average at 1.06 ... Josh Kassel held an opponent to two goals or
less for the 14th time this season in Saturday's 4-2 victory ...
the Black Knights finished the regular season 15-11-5, 15-8-5 AHA
... it marks the most conference win in a season in school history
and also gave them there best finish in league play ever at third
... Army will host its first ever Atlantic Hockey quarterfinal
match-up when it welcomes Bentley to Tate Rink on March 10 ... the
Black Knights won the season series 3-1, with two victories at West
Point ... last winter the Falcons eliminated Army from the AHA
playoffs with a 3-2 double overtime win in Waltham, Mass.
Bentley: Bentley split with RIT this weekend, wrapping up the seventh seed in the playoffs ... After losing 3-0 on Friday, Bentley earned the split with a wild 7-6 win on Saturday night ... They combined for 13 goals and 100 penalty minutes in Saturday night's game were both highs for the Falcons' games this season ... Sophomore Dain Prewitt paced the Bentley offense on Saturday, scoring two goals, including the game-winner, and adding two assists ... Freshman Marc Menzione notched his first career three-point game with a goal and two assists on Saturday night ... The Falcons will face Army in the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals for the second season in a row ... Last season, the Falcons won in double overtime in Watertown ... Army won the regular season series, 3-1, against Army ... Bentley completed the regular season with an 11-17 league record as the only team that did not skate to a tie in league play this season.
Canisius: The Canisius College hockey team closed
out its regular season with a 2-2 tie against Mercyhurst Feb. 24,
at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Griffs took the season series
from the Lakers 1-0-3 and went 3-3-1 in the month of February. It
was the second time in the last three seasons Canisius has beaten
Mercyhurst in the season series. For the second time this season,
the Griffs forced overtime with an extra-attacker goal in the last
minute of the contest. Kyle Bushee (Otsego, Mich.) tied the game
with 27 seconds remaining on his third goal of the season. Bushee,
who played the first 84 games of his college career without
tallying a goal, has scored three times in the last seven contests.
The other goal came from defenseman Carl Hudson (Smooth Rock Falls,
Ont.), which was his 10th goal and 20th point of the season. Hudson
ranks second on the school's Division I single-season list for
points by a defenseman and first in goals by a blue-liner. Hudson
gives the Griffs three freshmen with 20 points or more this season.
Prior to the 2006-07 campaign, the Blue and Gold had five freshmen
who had recorded 20 points of more in their first season. On
Hudson's goal, Josh Heidinger (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded his 26th
assist of the season, which ties the program record for assists in
a season. Chris Duggan had 26 as a freshman during the 1998-99
season. Andrew Loewen (Winnipeg, Manitoba) made 44 saves in the
contest and now has 115 saves in the last three games. For the
season, Loewen has 712 saves, which ranks third all-time for saves
in a single season. The Griffs will host American International in
the play-in game on March 3. The teams have played one time in
postseason history, a 7-4 win for Canisius in the 1999 MAAC
quarterfinals. Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Buffalo State
Sports Arena.
Connecticut: The University of Connecticut men's
hockey team clinched the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Hockey
Tournament with a pair of wins against Holy Cross over the weekend.
By earning the third seed, the Huskies will host their first
Atlantic Hockey Tournament game since joining the league. With the
two wins over the weekend, the Huskies improve to 15-17-2, 15-11-2
inside the league, marking the most wins and highest regular season
finish since joining the Atlantic Hockey Association prior to the
2003-04 season. In addition, the 15 total wins in the regular
season marks the highest win total since the Huskies won 19 games
during the 1999-2000 season. Over the course of the two games,
senior Matt Scherer tallied a total of four points to up his career
total to 103 points. He became just the 26th player in school
history to tally 100 points during a career. Earlier this season,
senior Cole Koidahl became the 25th player to reach the 100-point
plateau. The Huskies will look to reach the semifinals of the
tournament for the second consecutive year when they take the ice
Saturday, March 10th to host sixth-seeded Mercyhurst.
Holy Cross: Senior James Sixsmith had a
three-point weekend with two goals and an assist in the
home-and-home series with UConn. He leads the team in goals (17),
assists (30) and points (47). His 30 assists tie current San Jose
Shark Patrick Rissmiller for the Holy Cross Division I
single-season assists record. Rissmiller set the record in the
2001-02 season. Sixsmith who already holds the school's Division I
career points and assists records, is now tied for eighth on the
all-time points list with 152, dating back to the first varsity
season in 1966-67. His 1.38 points per game are fifth in the nation
and his .88 assists per game are sixth nationally. Holy Cross' five
seniors Tanner Fogarty, Rob Godfrey, Jon Landry, Sean Nappo and
captain James Sixsmith are one of the most successful classes in
the history of Holy Cross men's hockey. They have been a part of 75
wins, two Atlantic Hockey titles, two NCAA Tournaments and one NCAA
Tournament victory. Their 75 wins is the second most in a four-year
period in school-history. Holy Cross tied Air Force at the Hart
Center by a score of 2-2 in both meetings this season.
Mercyhurst: The overtime game Saturday was the
10th this season for the Lakers (1-3-6), eclipsing the prior
one-season record of 9 set in 2004-05. Canisius, which failed in
five tries to beat Mercyhurst a year ago, never lost to the Lakers
this season (1-0-3). Mercyhurst still holds a commanding 28-13-7
margin all-time. Senior goalie Mike Ella made back-to-back starts
for the first time this season and made 29 saves in the 2-2 tie
with Canisius. Senior Scott Champagne now has 140 career points,
10th all-time. Mercyhurst and Connecticut have met three times in
the conference playoffs with the Lakers holding a 2-1 advantage.
UConn defeated Mercyhurst 2-0 at home March 16, 2000, in the MAAC
Hockey League semifinals. Mercyhurst returned the favor 5-0 in the
MAAC semis at Holy Cross March 14, 2002, and then defeated the
Huskies 7-4 in Erie in the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals March 12,
2005. Mercyhurst split a pair of home games with UConn earlier in
the season, winning 6-2 and bowing 5-4 in overtime the next night.
The Lakers lead the all-time series 21-6-1. The Lakers went 5-3-1
in their last nine games this season.
Rochester Institute of Technology: With the win on
Friday RIT clinched the AHA regular season title in their first
year as a member of the conference. RIT split the weekend series
with the Falcons, losing on Saturday. RIT outscored Bentley 10-6,
going 3-for-11 on the power play. The Tigers held Bentley to one
power play goal in seven chances. The Tigers finished the year with
a 21-11-2 overall record and a record of 20-7-1. The Tigers are
second in the country in scoring (3.88 goals per game), second in
power play (24.4%), seventh in penalty kill % (87.2%) and first in
combined special teams (59.2%).
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers split a weekend series
with Army winning at West Point Friday night before dropping the
finale Saturday at home. Jason Smith got the win in goal Friday
night his 37th career victory, setting a new school record. Dave
Jarman scored his 10th goal, making him the fifth Pioneer in double
digit goal scoring this year. The Pioneers clinched the top seed in
the AHA playoffs with Friday's win. This will be the first time in
school history SHU will seeded first in the postseason. The
Pioneers will host the winner of Canisius-AIC play-in game on March
10th at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
