MATT FAIRCHILD - AIR FORCE
Sophomore, Forward, Ashburn, Va.
First career hat trick in 5-2 win over fourth-ranked
Denver...Entered the game with just three goals this season and
just six in his career, but had three vs. DU...His hat trick was
the first by a Falcon this season and the first since Andrew Ramsey
last season vs. AIC...Scored a short-handed goal in the first
period to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead...Also scored an empty-net
goal with just under five minutes remaining to seal the 5-2 win.

SIMON LAMBERT - R.I.T.
Senior, Forward, Ste. Therese, QUE
Lambert scored a goal and added three assists as
RIT went 2-0 on the week to take over first place in the Atlantic
Hockey standings. Lambert scored the game-winning goal, snapping a
2-2 third period tie and added two assists to lead the Tigers to a
4-2 win over the Pioneers on Friday. The following night, he added
an empty net goal in another 4-2 win over the Pioneers. Lambert
moved into first place in conference scoring. He has 12 goals and
17 assists for 29 points this season.

ANDREW LOEWEN - CANISIUS
Sophomore, Goaltender, Winnipeg, MAN
Loewen continued his dominance as of late. The sophomore goalie
shutout Army in the opener of the series. It was his third shutout
of the season and his second-consecutive. He matched his
season-best with 40 saves to blank the Black Knights. Loewen then
held Army scoreless for the first 51:28 of the finale. He held
opponents scoreless for a school-record 201 minutes of play, which
is also the second-longest streak by any goalie in the nation this
season. During the month of January, Loewen has posted a goals
against average of 0.99 and a save percentage of .969.

ANDREW FAVOT - R.I.T.
Freshman, Forward, King City,
ONT
Favot scored a goal in each of the two Tigers wins this weekend.
He scored an empty net goal with 1:57 left in regulation to
complete the scoring in a 4-2 win over Sacred Heart. He then opened
the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period, as the
Tigers defeated the Pioneers by the same 4-2 score. Favot has four
goals and an assist this season, but three tallies in his last
three games.

Atlantic Hockey Honor Roll

Andrew Volkening, Air Force (So, G, Genoa, Ill.) - 1-1 record,
2.01 GAA, .935 saves percentage, 4 ga, 58 saves...Led Air Force to
a 5-2 win over fourth-ranked Denver by making 29 saves...Made 29
saves in the 2-1 loss to thrid-ranked Colorado College...Held two
of the nation's top 10 scoring teams to just four goals in two
games. Denver was 10th in the nation in scoring while Colorado
College was seventh.
Luke Flicek, Army (Sr, F, Burnsville, Minn.) - Flicek scored his
100th career point, the game-winning goal in a hard-fought 2-1
victory over Canisius. Flicek knocked home the game-winning goal in
the third period and helped Army end an eight-game winless
streak.
Vincent Scarsella, Canisius (Fr, F, Lackawanna, N.Y.) - Scarsella
tallied two points on a goal and an assist in a series against
Army. The freshman posted an assist on the game-winning goal in the
opener against the Black Knights. In the finale, Scarsella knotted
the game with 4:01 remaining. It was the third time this season
that Scarsella has tied a game in the final five minutes of
regulation. He leads all Atlantic Hockey freshmen with 19 points
this season.
Jason Weeks, Canisius (So, F, Seattle, Wash.) - Weeks tallied a
goal and an assist in the Griffs' 3-0 victory over Army on Friday.
He tallied an assist on the second goal for Griffs and then scored
his eighth goal of the season to seal the victory in the third
period to continue his strong play as of late. During the Griffs'
first 13 games of the season, Weeks totaled only three points and
one goal. In his last 11 games, the sophomore has 10 points and
seven goals. For the year, Weeks has totaled 13 points on eight
goals and five assists.
Beau Erickson, Connecticut (So, G, Hinton, Iowa) - Erickson made 70
saves on the weekend on 75 shots. On Saturday he robbed
Mercyhurst's Ben Cottreau of a goal when he gloved a point blank
slap shot in midair. The 41 saves he made Saturday was a season
high and only two off his career high.
Chris Myhro, Connecticut (Jr, F, Mound West Tonka, Minn.) - He has
really come on offensively the last couple of weeks and topped it
off by scoring two goals against Mercyhurst, including the game
winner on January 19. He also recorded a key assist with a great
pass to Matt Pedemonti the night before to give the Huskies their
third goal and allow them to earn a point in the 3-3 tie. He was
plus 3 over the weekend.
Matt Pedemonti, Connecticut (Fr, F, Enfield, Conn.) - Pedemonti
scored the final goal in the 3-3 tie on Friday. He was a presence
all weekend as he was on the ice for three of the six goals scored
by the Huskies. He is now the team's fifth leading scorer with nine
points on the year.
Everett Sheen, Holy Cross (Fr, F, Lethbridge, ALB) - Sheen had one
goal and one assist in the 5-3 win at AIC on Tuesday. He assisted
on Holy Cross' first goal, while he scored the Crusaders' third
goal. Sheen has scored 11 goals in the last 13 games as his 12
goals lead the team and are tied for second in the nation by
rookies.
Brandon Coccimiglio, Mercyhurst (Fr, F, Burlington, ONT) -
Coccimiglio had a goal and an assist at UConn. He assisted on
Mercyhurst's first goal Friday that tied the game at 1-1 and scored
the Lakers' first goal Saturday that cut the Huskies' lead to 2-1.
He is tied for second on the team in scoring with 7 goals and 7
assists.
Ben Cottreau, Mercyhurst (Sr, F, Toronto, ONT) - Cottreau stretched
his scoring streak to 9 games with a goal and two assists over the
weekend at UConn. Cottreau leads the team in goals (8), assists
(15) and points (23). He moved into 10th place all-time in points
with 143, surpassing Scott Champagne's (2003-06) total of 141.
Louis Menard, R.I.T. (So, G, Chicoutimi, QUE) - Menard stopped
57-of-61 shots, as the Tigers swept Sacred Heart to move into sole
possession of first place in the Atlantic Hockey standings. Menard
was excellent on Friday, as he made 37 saves and was named the
game's first star in Friday's 4-2 win. On Saturday, Menard stopped
20 shots in the 4-2 victory. Menard improved to 11-7-3 overall and
9-4-3 in AHA play.
Stefan Drew, Sacred Heart (Jr, G, Oakbank, MAN) - Drew had another
strong weekend in goal, stopping 60 of the 66 shots he saw against
RIT. He allowed three goals in each game, making double digit saves
in two of three periods Saturday night when he stopped 33 shots.
Friday night he made 27 saves. Drew also tallied an assist on SHU's
second goal Saturday night.
Dave Jarman, Sacred Heart (SO, F, Toronto, ONT) - Jarman was the
only Poineer to tally multi-point game this weekend, as he recorded
a goal and an assist in Saturday's game against RIT. The sophomore
now has eight goals and eight assists on the year.
Reade Wolansky, Sacred Heart (Fr, D, St. Albert, ALB) - Wolansky
scored the Pioneers second goal Saturday night against RIT. It was
his second goal of his rookie season.

Air Force
Air Force's win over Denver on Friday was the first win over DU
since 1980, ending a 19-game losing streak to the Pioneers...The
win was AFA's first over Denver at the Academy ever (11-game losing
streak)...The win was the first over a WCHA team since beating
Colorado College, 6-5 in overtime, in 1985 at the Broadmoor World
Arena...The win was the first over a top five team since beating
fourth-ranked Colorado College, 7-6 in overtime in 1975 at the
Academy. The win over the No. 4 team in the nation ties as the
highest ranked team Air Force has ever beaten...The win by a Frank
Serratore coached Air Force team over a WCHA team...Air Force is
3-2-1 vs. ranked teams this season The Falcons opened the season by
sweeping then No. 14 Quinnipiac at the Academy by scores of 4-1 and
3-1. Quinnipiac is currently ranked 14th. The Falcons lost to then
No. 14 and current No. 11 Boston College, 8-2. The Falcons tied
then No. 12 and current No. 18 Minnesota, 2-2 in overtime...Air
Force has scored first in just 10 games this season, but the
Falcons are 8-0-2 in those games...Air Force is 1-1-1 vs. the WCHA
this season (win over Denver, tie with Minnesota, lost to Colorado
College)...In three games vs. the WCHA, Air Force out-scored its
opponents, 8-6). AFA has held all three opponents to just two
goals...Greg Flynn is the top scoring defenseman in the AHA and the
No. 7 scoring defenseman in the nation with 19 points (3-16-19) in
24 games. He had one assist vs. Denver on Friday. He has scored in
10 of the last 13 games and has 13 points (0-13-13) in the last
12...Brent Olson has 10 goals in his last 14 games. He had two
assists on Friday vs. Denver and now has a point in 11 of his last
14 games. He leads the team with 11 goals Freshman Derrick Burnett
did not score a goal in his first 19 games. However, he now has
three goals in his last three games. He had two vs. RIT, Jan. 12,
and scored the first goal of the game on Friday vs. Denver...Josh
Schaffer's goal on Friday marked his first game-winner of the
season and his first game-winner since his sophomore year. It was
just his second goal of the season and his first since Dec. 7 vs.
Canisius.
American International
The American International College ice hockey squad fell 5-3 to
Holy Cross in their only contest of the week. AIC led 1-0 in the
first period, and out shot the Crusaders 34-28, despite the loss.
Senior captain Bryan Jurynec, sophomore Chris Campanale and junior
Keith Rodger all scored for the Yellow Jackets. David Turco and
Mark Pavli each added two assists. AIC doesn't play again until
they take on non-conference foe Dartmouth, Sunday evening on the
road.
Army
The Black Knights split a weekend series with Canisius and in the
process stopped an eight-game winless streak. Senior alternate
captain Luke Flicek scored the game-winning goal, his 100th career
point, in a 2-1 victory Saturday night. Flicek became the 52nd Army
hockey player to reach the milestone. He has 36 goals and 64
assists in 123 career games ... Owen Meyer scored his team-best
13th goal on Saturday, a short-handed tally ... Army had 70 shots
on goal over the weekend ... Senior captain Chase Podsiad returned
from an injury and had a pair of assists over the weekend ... The
Black Knights had a streak of seven straight periods of
double-digit shots stopped in the third period Saturday ... The
Army hockey team played a 20-minute game of sled hockey following
Saturday's game. Army played the Long Island RoughRiders and
despite a quick tutorial on the proper way to push off and shoot,
lost 5-0 ... Army will play a pair of nationally televised contests
this weekend against service academy rival Air Force. Friday's game
will begin at 8 p.m. on CSTV while Sunday's contest will face-off
at 4 p.m. on ESPNU. This weekend marks Army's second and third
national television appearances this season.
Bentley
After an idle week, Bentley hosts Mercyhurst for a two-game series
on Friday and Saturday ... The Lakers have a 22-5-2 lead in the
all-time series between the schools ... Mercyhurst swept the
two-game series last season in Erie, Pa. ... The Falcons have not
swept or been swept in a weekend league series all season,
collecting between one and three points in each Atlantic Hockey
series.
Canisius
The Griffs split a pair of games at Army during the weekend.
Canisius won the opener, 3-0, while the Black Knights on Saturday,
2-1. The Griffs, who are now 7-12-5 and 6-8-4 against league foes,
remained tied with Army in the Atlantic Hockey standings. The two
teams are tied for fifth with 16 points. Sophomore Andrew Loewen
continued his dominance in goal against the Black Knights. Loewen
recorded his third shutout of the season, and second-consecutive,
in the opener against Army, matching a season best with 40 saves.
The sophomore goalie then kept the Black Knights off the scoreboard
for the first 51:28 of the finale. Loewen held opponents without a
goal for exactly 201 minutes during a four-game stretch, setting a
new school record. Dan Giffin held the previous mark of 147:34
during the 2005-06 season. Loewen's stretch is also the
second-longest in the nation this season. Michigan's Billy Sauer
held opponents without a goal for 206:14 earlier in the year thanks
to a 2OT shutout against Michigan Tech during the Great Lakes
Invitational. Loewen stopped 104 shots during the stretch. Loewen
has dominated opponents during the month of January. He owns a
goals against average of 0.99 and a save percentage of .969. For
the season, Loewen lead all Atlantic Hockey goalies with a save
percentage of .923 and ranks second with a goals against average of
2.53. Against league competition, Loewen leads all goalies with a
1.89 GAA and a .940 save percentage. In the opener, freshman Pat
Kenney, senior Scott Follett and sophomore Jason Weeks all tallied
goals to lead the Griffs to victory. Kenney's score was his first
collegiate goals, while Follett's was his first of the season. The
two are the 18th and 19th players to score for the Griffs this
season. Of the 19, 14 are either freshmen or sophomores. Weeks
continued his strong play as of late with his goal plus an assist.
During the Griffs' first 13 games of the season, Weeks totaled only
three points and one goal. In his last 11 games, the sophomore has
10 points and seven goals. In the finale, Loewen recorded 30 saves
and freshman Vincent Scarsella scored the Griffs' lone goal with
4:01 remaining in the game, Scarsella, who leads all Atlantic
Hockey freshmen with 19 points, knotted a game in the final five
minutes of regulation for the third time this season. Against the
Black Knights, the Griffs continued their dominance on the penalty
kill. Canisius killed all 13 power plays it faced during the
series. In its last 11 games, Canisius has allowed only one
power-play goal in 54 opportunities (98.1 percent penalty kill).
The Griffs have also scored three short-handed goals during the
stretch. The Griffs take a break from league play next weekend,
playing at Merrimack on Saturday.
Connecticut
This was the first time this season that the Huskies were able to
grab three of a possible four points in a weekend series. Before
Myhro's two goals, the first four goals of the weekend were scored
by freshman. Rookies now account for 21 of the 43 goals by UConn
this year which is 49 percent of the total. Jeff Sapieha was able
to give UConn a rare power-play goal over the weekend. The Huskies
have one of the nation's best penalty kills, and are now
emphasizing improving on the power play, which has resulted in nine
goals in their first 97 chances. With 621 saves on the year, only
Jeff Lerg of Michigan State (650) has made more in the nation this
year than Beau Erickson.
Holy Cross
Holy Cross went 1-2 on the power play in the 5-3 win at AIC on
Tuesday. The Crusaders' 24.6 power play percentage is ranked second
in the nation. The Crusaders are 28-114 on power play
opportunities, including a 3-5 performance at Providence (10/20), a
3-7 performance at Mercyhurst (10/26), a 3-8 performance against
Army (11/4), a 3-8 performance against Connecticut (12/1) and a 4-5
performance against Bentley (1/12). Holy Cross' seven goals on the
week were scored by sevendifferent players. Freshman forward
Everett Sheen's 12 goals lead the team and are tied for second in
the nation by rookies. He has scored 11 goals in the last 13 games.
Senior Dale Reinhardt currently has 42 goals and 69 assists for 111
points in 125 career games. Reinhardt is ranked eighth on the
all-time Holy Cross Division I points and goals list, while he is
tied for seventh in assists. Freshman defenseman Matt Celin earned
his first collegiate point with an assist on the game-winning goal
in the 5-3 victory at AIC on Tuesday. Holy Cross is 4-2-3 on its
opponent's home ice so far this season. The Crusaders will play
three of their next four games at home.
Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst's 6-game unbeaten streak in the conference (5-0-1) came
to an end Saturday at UConn with a 3-2 loss, the 5th one-goal loss
of the season, two of which came in overtime. Despite the 0-1-1
weekend at UConn, Mercyhurst still leads the all-time series
21-8-2. The teams played only their second overtime tie in their
30+ game history Friday. The Lakers never led in the two games.
Senior Ben Cottreau extended his scoring streak to 9 games.
Cottreau leads the team in goals (8), assists (15) and points (23).

6-game road trip next weekend at Bentley. The Lakers lead the
all-time series 22-5-2 and won both games in Erie last season by
scores of 7-4 and 5-2.
Rochester Institute of Technology
The Tigers are now 5-1 in January and are 9-3-3 in their last 15
games, as they took over sole possession of first place in Atlantic
Hockey after sweeping Sacred Heart this past weekend. RIT was 7-2
in January a season ago. The Tigers are now 4-1 all-time against
Sacred Heart and swept the Pioneers this year and last. It was
RIT's first win of the season after trailing after two periods.
Both times, the second win over Sacred Heart lifted RIT into first
place in Atlantic Hockey. Senior Matt Smith scored two power-play
goals on Friday, giving him 50 for his career at RIT. He is the
32nd player in the history of the program to tally 50 career goals.
He needs just three points to reach 100 for his career. Senior
Brent Patry played in his 100th career game on Friday. Fellow
senior Darrell Draper's next game will be the 100th of his career.
RIT's power-play is 7-for-19 over the last five games, after going
2-for-46 on the man-advantage over the 10 games prior. Goaltender
Louis Menard is now 20-4-3 all-time in Atlantic Hockey play in his
career.
Sacred Heart
The Pioneers were swept by RIT in a two game series, losing by
identical 4-2 scores. It marked the second straight year SHU has
been swept by RIT. The weekend mark the first time Sacred Heart had
ever played at RIT. Four different Pioneers scored goals on the
weekend. Junior Dave Jarman and senior Alex Parent each had two
points on the weekend. Parent had a pair of assists, giving him 76
for his career, one shy of third all-time in school history. Parent
and junior Bear Trapp have been nominated for the Hobey Baker
award. Fans can vote until March 9th on HobeyBaker.com. The
Pioneers will face Holy Cross in a home-and-home set this weekend.
The teams meet Friday in Milford and Saturday in Worcester for
their first games this year.
