The victory Friday night helped AIC surpass their total number of points from last season, while the win Saturday gave them one more victory than last year, with six games still remaining on the schedule. Both Jereme Tendler and Greg Genovese scored twice over the weekend while five other Yellow Jackets tailed three points. Dan Ramirez was in net for both games, turning away 46 shots on net. Next up, AIC will face Army in a home-in-home series, the Yellow Jackets entertain Saturday afternoon.

Canisius

The Griffs split a pair of games with rival RIT, losing in Rochester on Saturday in a physical game, 4-1, before defeating the Tigers on Sunday, 5-4. The two schools split the four-game this series, with each team sweeping their home games. Canisius scored three power-play goals in the victory against RIT. It was the first time that the Griffs scored three extra-man goals since Nov 4, 2006. Canisius, who went 3-for-6 on the power play, had scored only three extra-man goals in its previous 44 attempts. Sophomores Chris Forsman and Alec Wright and freshman Vincent Scarsella each posted a power play goal. The Griffs scored on the power play in three of their last four attempts to earn the victory. Scarsella now leads all Atlantic Hockey freshmen with 23 points on seven goals and 16 assists. Senior David Kasch and freshman Brandon Cummings also tallied goals for the Griffs. Cummings' goal was the first of his collegiate career. Kasch has posted six points in four games against the Tigers this season (4g, 2a). The fifth-year senior raised his season total to 20 points, setting a new career-best total. The four goals allowed were the most for the Griffs in a victory since defeating Robert Morris 6-4 on Oct. 9, 2005. Canisius is now 2-14-3 this season when allowing three or more goals. In the series opener, the Tigers won a physical contest. Freshman goalie Taylor Anderson stopped a career-best 39 shots. Anderson and Luker filled in for starter Andrew Loewen, who did not start an Atlantic Hockey contest for the first time since Nov. 17. The Griffs continue their homestand next weekend, hosting Holy Cross on Saturday and Sunday at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

Connecticut

Goalie Beau Erickson's season came to an end Friday night with a severe knee injury. He joins a growing injury list for the Huskies that includes junior captain Sean Erickson and forward Ryan Hawkins. Erickson finished the season with 801 saves. Despite playing only 25 games, that ranks as the second best total during the Division I era and third best overall for the Huskies in their 48 season history of playing hockey. When he returns next season he will begin to target some of the all-time career records for UConn. He has 1,349 saves in his first two seasons, despite not being a full time starter until the second half of his freshman year and then having this year cut short. He already ranks fourth on the career list for D1 saves by a UConn goalie. The Division I all-time leader is Scott Tomes with 2,165 saves. If Erickson is able to remain healthy he has a solid chance of breaking the all-time Husky career saves list before he is done, which is currently held by J.T. Marcoux, who stopped 2,793 shots from 1984-88. While UConn currently sits in 10th place with 17 points, the Huskies have control of their own destiny with plenty of opportunity to move up. Pending Canisius Sunday game versus RIT, the next four teams in front of the Huskies have only one more point at 18. It also helps that their final three weekends are against Bentley, AIC and Holy Cross, the other three teams besides Canisius with 18 points.

Holy Cross

Holy Cross ranks third in the nation and leads the league in fewest penalty minutes per game with 9.8...The Crusaders' 22.4 power play percentage is ranked third in the nation and leads Atlantic Hockey. The Crusaders are 32-143 on power play opportunities...Senior Dale Reinhardt currently has 44 goals and 71 assists for 115 points in 130 career games. Reinhardt is ranked seventh on the all-time Holy Cross Division I assists list, while he is eighth in points and goals. This season he leads the team in assists with 17 and is second in points with 26. He is a finalist for the Frozen Four Skills Challenge...Freshman forward Everett Sheen's 13 goals lead the team. Sheen also has six assists as he is third on the team in points with 19...Brodie Sheahan leads the team with 26 points, while he is second on the team in goals with 10 and assists with 16, which are all career best marks...Freshman goalie Adam Roy made 40 saves against Army on Friday. This is the second time this season he has made 40 or more saves as he stopped 44 shots at Mercyhurst in the 4-1 win on October 26...Holy Cross' seven ties this season are a school record...The Crusaders will conclude their four-game road trip with two games at Canisius (2/16-17). Holy Cross is 4-4-4 on its opponent's home ice this season.

Mercyhurst

The Lakers were shutout at home Saturday for the first time since Sacred Heart posted a 5-0 win February 23, 2002. The Lakers were outshot by Air Force 74-47 and outscored 8-3 in the two games, but earned a split. The all-time series is tied 4-4. Each team has won 3 of 4 on the road. Mercyhurst had scored at least one power play goal in four straight games and 8 of its last 9 before being stopped in all 10 chances against Air Force Saturday. Conversely, the four power play goals allowed against Air Force Saturday were the most in any one game this season. The Lakers gave up four at RIT February 16, 2007 in a 6-5 loss. The 12 penalties assessed Mercyhurst Saturday were the second most this season at home. The Lakers were hit with 15 minor penalties in a 4-2 win over Army January 16. The 7 goals allowed to Air Force Saturday were the most given up at home since the U.S. Under-18 Team scored 7 in the Lakers' 8-7 exhibition win January 31, 2006 and the most in a regular season game since Sacred Heart posted an 8-3 win February 14, 2003 at the Ice Center. The Lakers, battling for a top tier playoff spot, have six conference games left, 3 at home and 3 on the road. The 3-1 win over Air Force Friday was the Lakers' 10th of the season, eclipsing both overall and conference wins (9) in all of 2006-07.

Rochester Institute of Technology

RIT went 1-1-0 on the weekend versus Canisius but remained atop the AHA standings with 28 points, one point ahead of Army and Sacred Heart. Sunday RIT squandered two, one-goal leads, losing to Canisius 5-4. Matt Smith had two goals and an assist becoming the 45th player in RIT history to score 100 career points. Dan Ringwald had an assist on all four RIT goals and Simon Lambert had a goal and an assist. Ringwald had six points on the weekend, scoring a goal and an assist on Saturday and four assists on Sunday. Lambert had four points on a goal and three assists. Sacred Heart

The Pioneers swept a weekend set with UConn, winning Friday night 6-4 in Storrs, and posting a 4-0 shutout Saturday in Millford. Senior Alex Parent had a four point weekend, posting a goal and three assists. Parent now has 82 career assists putting him second in SHU history. He also has 127 career points, good for fourth place in school history. Junior Bear Trapp tallied a three point weekend with two goals and three assists. His 69 career assists put him one helper shy of fifth place on the all-time SHU list. Goaltender Stefan Drew made 29 saves Saturday night to earn his second shutout of the year. The sweep was the second weekend sweep of the season for the Pioneers, the other coming against UConn in November. Sacred Heart swept the season series from UConn for the first time ever. It also marks the first time the Pioneers have won a season series from Uconn since the 2003-04 season. The Pioneers will host Mercyhurst in a two game series next weekend at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
