BRENT OLSON - AIR FORCE
Junior, Forward, Baudette, Minn.
Olson led all scorers during the Final Five Weekend at the Blue
Cross Arena, as he scored three goals and added a pair of assists
in leading Air Force to back-to-back Atlantic Hockey Tournament
crowns. Saturday in a 5-0 win over R.I.T., Olson netted a pair,
including the game winner in the first period of action. In
Sunday's Championship contest, he again opened the scoring in the
match with his 18th goal on the season and added a pair of assists,
including helping on the game-winner 56 seconds into the second
overtime. He was named the Tournament M.V.P., as well as to the
All-Tournament Team.

Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week

ANDREW VOLKENING - AIR FORCE
Sophomore, Goaltender, Genoa, Ill.
Volkening was named to the All-Tournament Team, as he made 73
saves in a pair of wins to lead Air Force to its second
consectutive Atlantic Hockey Tournament Title. He also posted the
first-ever shutout during the semifinal round, as he blanked R.I.T.
5-0. Volkening made 49 saves in the double overtime win versus
Mercyhurst, to secure the Falcons second straight trip to the NCAA
Tournament.

JEFF TERMINESI - MERCYHURST
Freshman, Defense, Mississauga, ONT
In three games during the Final Five weekend, Terminesi handed
out a pair of assists. Despite his offensive output, he was stellar
on the defensive end of the ice for the Lakers and his outstanding
play earned him recognition on the 2008 Atlantic Hockey
All-Tournament Team.

Atlantic Hockey Honor Roll

Josh Frider, Air Force (Junior, Forward, Moorhead, Minn.) -
Frider accumulated four points in a pair of wins for the Falcons.
In the Championship game he scored a pair of goals, including the
game-winner 56 seconds into the second overtime and a game-tying
goal in the third period. He also added an assists on Air Force's
second goal of the contest. Frider's second assists came in a 5-0
semifinal win against R.I.T. Saturday night.
Matt Lundin, Mercyhurst (Junior, Goalie, Apple Valley, Minn.) -
Lundin saved 116 of 124 shots (.935) while playing three games and
10+ periods in a 48-hour span. Stopped 38 of 39 in 4-1 win over
Sacred Heart, 36 of 38 in 4-2 victory over Army and 42 of 47 in 5-4
championship game double overtime loss to Air Force.
Matt Pierce, Mercyhurst (Junior, Forward, Pakenham, ONT) - Pierce
had a 4-point weekend in Rochester and finished the season with an
11-game scoring streak. He scored the first goal of the game on a
power play against Sacred Heart, equaled the feat against Army, and
then had a goal (pp) and a helper against Air Force. His 15th goal
of the season drew the Lakers to within 2-1 in the second and his
assist helped Mercyhurst regain the lead at 4-3 in the third.
Chris Risi, Mercyhurst (Sophomore, Forward, Thorold, ONT) - Risi
had a point in each game in Rochester and finished the season with
at least one point in 6 of his last 7 games. He scored his 6th goal
of the season to finish the scoring against Sacred Heart, had the
game-winning shorthanded goal early in the third against Army, and
assisted on an early third period goal Sunday against Air Force
that gave the Lakers their first lead at 3-2.
Dave Jarman, Sacred Heart (Sophomore, Forward, Toronto, ONT) -
Jarman scored the Pioneers only goal in their Final Five loss to
Mercyhurst. Jarman finished the year with 12 goals.

NOTES ON THE WEEKEND AT THE BLUE CROSS
ARENA:
This weekend at the Blue Cross saw many records fall. On Saturday
night, the AHA saw 3,933 fans witness a pair of games, marking a
single day attendance high for Atlantic Hockey. Sunday night, many
records and streaks fell. Andrew Volkening saw his scoreless streak
of 104:28 at the Blue Cross Arena come to an end. The three goals
scored by Josh Schaffer (9:50), Brett Robinson (11:09) and Josh
Frider (11:30) were the fastest three consectutive goals scored in
Atlantic Hockey Tournament history. The 80:56 double overtime
thriller was the longest finals contest in league history and the
third longest all-time in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament. The two
teams (Mercyhurst (53) and Air Force (47)) combined for 100 shots
breaking the previous best was 95 set by Bentley (56) and
Mercyhurst (39) back on March 17, 2006 and a finals mark of 75 by
Quinnipiac (38) and Mercyhurst (37) on March 19, 2005. The nine
goals scored in the game also set a new mark, besting the old one
of seven. Air Force scored 22 goals in four games during the
Championships breaking their own mark set last season and
Mercyhurst in 2005 of 14 goals. Air Force has won seven straight
tournament games, besting the mark held by Holy Cross (3/13/04 -
3/12/05) and Mercyhurst (3/12/05 - 3/11/06). Air Force became the
first-ever Atlantic Hockey member institution to win back-to-back
tournament crowns. Mercyhurst became the lowest ever seed to play
in the Championship game and set a mark of five games played during
this years run.
Air Force
Air Force became the first team in Atlantic Hockey Association
history to win back-to-back conference championships ... The
Falcons defeated RIT, 5-0, in the semifinals to record the first
shutout and largest margin of victory ever in an
AHA semifinal game ... The Falcons then defeated Mercyhurst,
5-4 in double overtime, in the second longest tournament game in
league history ... Including the AHA quarterfinal round,
AFA ouscored its opponents, 22-7, in the four games ... The
Falcons will make their second consecutive trip "The Big Dance" ...
It is also the second trip to NCAA Tournament in the 40 years
of hockey at the Air Force Academy ... Air Force's current
nine-game unbeaten streak is tied as the longest in the nation ...
The Falcons are 8-0-1 in the last nine and have outscored its
opponents by a combined score of 43-12 ... AFA has won four
of the games by shutout (7-0 at Mercyhurst, 3-0 at Canisius, 5-0
vs. AIC and 5-0 vs. RIT) ... The streak is the longest in school
history vs. Division I teams and the longest since the
school-record 11-game unbeaten streak in 1974-75 ... The current
five-game winning streak is the longest since last season's
six-gamer ... Air Force is 0-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament ...
Air Force, the No. 4 seed in the NCAA West Regional in Denver in
2007, nearly upset Minnesota, the overall No. 1 seed in the
tournament ... Air Force led 3-1 with just over eight minutes left,
but the Gophers came back for a 4-3 win ... Air Force is unbeaten
in the AHA Tournament with a 7-0 all-time record ... Air
Force is 4-0 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester ... Air Force's
21 Division I wins this season are the most in school history
... The 21 wins are the third-most overall in school history ...
The 1971-72 team won 25 games while the 1974-75 team won 24 ... The
previous record for Division I wins was 19 set last season ... The
21 wins are the most in 11 years under Frank Serratore ... AFA has
scored a power-play goal in last seven games and 11 of 13 ... AFA
had killed 29 straight power plays until Mercyhurst scored a 5-on-3
goal ... The Falcons have killed 32 of last 34 opponent power
plays.
Army
The top-seeded Black Knights advanced to the semifinals with a pair
of victories over the weekend against American International. Army
opened its series with a 4-0 victory and closed out the series with
a 5-2 win, despite a 30-minute power outage delay ... Army's 4-0 in
on Friday was the third consecutive 4-0 victory and the third
shutout vs. AIC for Josh Kassel. The shutout was Kassel's fifth of
the season and ninth of his career. Kassel is now tied with Brad
Roberts for second all-time in career shutouts. Four of Kassel's
shutouts have been against AIC ... Army went 6-0 vs. AIC this
season ... Owen Meyer had a goal and two assists over the weekend,
including scoring on a penalty shot during Saturday's game ... Eric
Sefchik also had three points with a goal and two assists ... Bryce
Hollweg and Ken Rowe each scored twice over the weekend while Will
Ryan had a goal and assist and Chris Colvin had a pair of assists
... Army will play in the semifinals for the second consecutive
season. Army will play the lowest remaining seed at 4:05 p.m. on
Saturday in the first semifinal ... Meyer is now the team's leading
scorer with 21 goals and 18 assists ... Luke Flicek who did not
play Saturday after violating a team rule has 12 goals and 25
assists ... Bryce Hollweg, who centers the line with Meyer and
Flicek, has 10 goals and 20 assists.
Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst finished 1-3-7 in overtime games in 2007-2008...The
eleven overtimes were a new one-season mark...Only overtime win
came against Canisius in game two of the conference
quarterfinals... Mercyhurst is now 4-5-0 lifetime against Air
Force...The 53 shots by Mercyhurst in the championship were a
season best...The Lakers' loss to Air Force was the first this
season when scoring more than three goals...the loss was also the
first when tied after forty minutes (5-1-3)...Ironically,
Mercyhurst outshot only Air Force in the 3 games in Rochester and
only 14 teams overall this season (6-5-3)...Senior Ben Cottreau
finished his career 7th all-time in points (156), tied for 7th
all-time in assists with 95 and tied for 4th in power play goals
with 26. Other seniors to finish their careers over the weekend
were forward Kerry Bowman (12-16=28) and defenseman Jamie Coghlan
(3-6=9). Coghlan missed the final 3 games due to injury. The Lakers
finished the season with at least one power play goal in their last
eight games (11 of 49, .224). The Lakers total of 112 goals in
2007-2008 broke the record for fewest goals in a season (114) set
last season. The 41 games played were also a new one-season record.
Only three Lakers (junior Matt Pierce, sophomore Cullen Eddy, and
freshman Scott Pitt) played in every game.
Rochester Institute of Technology
The loss Saturday was RIT's first loss in eight games and broke a
five-game winning streak. It was the first time we had been shut
out since January 25 at Connecticut. Air Force's short handed goal
was the first short handed allowed by the Tigers this season.
Sacred Heart
The Pioneers lost their AHA Final Five game to Mercyhurst, 4-1,
Friday night in Rochester. Dave Jarman scored the Pioneers only
goal. Senior Alex Parent finished his stellar career with 141
points, including 87 assists and 54 goals. He completes his career
third all-time in scoring and second in career assists. SHU
finishes the season with a record of 16-19-3.
