Steve McLeod and T.J. Smith earned their first collegiate point
after registering assists on a Chris Bologino goal. Bolognino,
playing from the blue-line, is tied for the team-lead with two
goals. On Friday, AIC garnered their first point of the season,
after playing to a 1-1 tie with Bentley. The tie in only the third
game of the season is a noted improvement after the Yellow Jackets
started off their 2006-2007 campaign without a point until their
13th game of the season. Sophomore Chris Campanale who only dressed
in 10 games last season as a walk-on, earned an assist on the
game's lone goal. Campanale has a goal and an assist skating on the
front-line of the Yellow Jackets much improved attack.
Army: The Black Knights split a series at Holy
Cross, winning 5-2 Saturday and losing Sunday 3-1. Saturday's win

with a 1-1 tie and a 5-1 win in a home-and-home series against
American International ... Sophomore Marc Menzione scored a hat
trick on Saturday, the Falcons' first hat trick since 2005 and the

Falcons have a busy week coming up, hosting Sacred Heart on Tuesday
before a home-and-home set with Connecticut on Friday and Saturday

Pioneers.
Canisius: The Griffs split a pair of Atlantic
Hockey games this past weekend, falling to RIT, 4-3, in the opener
before dominating the Tigers for a 6-2 victory in the Griffs' home
opener. A total of 1,131 fans came out to see Canisius defeat the
Tigers, just 104 people shy of the Buffalo State Sports Arena
record. Seniors David Kasch and Bryce Luker led the Griffs to the
victory in the series finale. Kasch tallied two goals and recorded
his first multiple-point effort since posting two assists, also
against RIT on Feb. 2, 2007. Luker recorded 36 saves and earned his
first victory with the Blue and Gold. Luker had recorded four
previous victories in his career, all as a member of Michigan Tech.
The duo helped the Griffs' hand the Tigers its biggest Atlantic
Hockey defeat. The four-goal margin of defeat also tied the Tigers'
worst defeat since moving to Division I. The dominating victory
came after a tight 4-3 loss in the opener. The Tigers won the game
by scoring on a penalty shot. It was the first time that a Canisius
opponent attempted a penalty shot since Nov. 9, 2002 and the first
time an opponent has made one since the Griffs moved to Division I.
The game was also the fifth-consecutive contest decided by one or
fewer goals for Canisius. It was the longest streak for the Griffs
since moving to Division I. Freshman Derek Danowski and junior
Spencer Chuchill both extended their point streaks to a career-best
five games. Danowski tallied an assist in the opener against RIT
before missing the finale. Churchill recorded an assist on Friday
and added two assists in the victory against Saturday. Churchill
has recorded six assists on the season, which is one shy of his
career-high total and is tied for the Atlantic Hockey lead.
Connecticut: When Brad McInnis stepped onto the
ice to replace Beau Erickson in goal Saturday, he became the 13th
player (12 of them freshman) to play for UConn, who did not play
for the team last season. Despite the large turnover in players,
this season start is similar to last season's start when the team
lost its first five games. This is the first four game losing
streak for the Huskies since that streak. UConn is not shut out
that often. This was only the third shutout in the previous three
seasons. The last two years have seen one shutout each, a 5-0 loss
to Canisius in 2005-06 and a 3-0 loss to Army in 2006-07.
Holy Cross: Holy Cross' 33.3 power play percentage
is ranked second in the country. Freshman Everett Sheen scored his
first collegiate goal in the 3-1 win over Army on Nov. 4. Sophomore
Ryan Driscoll's four power play goals are tied for fourth
nationally. Brodie Sheahan's two game-winning goals are tied for
second in the nation. Senior Dale Reinhardt now has 98 career
points with 41 goals and 57 assists. His 98 points and 41 goals are
eighth on the all-time Holy Cross Division I list, while his 57
assists are tied for 10th.
Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst hadn't scored a first
period goal this season until freshman Steve Cameron (Mission, BC)
notched his first collegiate lamplighter with 11 seconds left in
the opening frame Friday at Air Force. Cameron's goal gave the
Lakers the lead for only the second time this season (1-0 over Ohio
State in first game of season). The Lakers then scored the first
two goals of the game, also in the first period, Saturday.
Sophomore Derek Fisher's (International Falls, Minn.) first career
goal came in his 29th career game Friday. Senior winger Kerry
Bowman's (Leamington, Ontario) assist on Fisher's marker was his
first since March 4, 2006, in a 4-2 win over Canisius at the Ice
Center. Bowman had two goals in 19 games last season. Senior
captain Ben Cottreau (Toronto, Ontario) extended his scoring streak
to six games this weekend. All three of Scott Pitt's (Ottawa,
Ontario) goals this season have come with the man advantage. He had
two power play goals Friday, including his first collegiate
game-winner. The Lakers had scored only seven goals in their first
six games and no more than two in any one contest before Friday's
outburst. The Lakers have scored at least one power play goal in
four straight games and six of their first eight. Eleven different
players had points in the two-game series at Air Force and four
players scored their first goals of the season. Freshman goalie
Ryan Zapolski (Erie, Pa.) picked up his first collegiate win Friday
by turning aside 34 Air Force shots. Mercyhurst will travel next
weekend to East Lansing, Mich. to play Michigan State twice. The
Spartans are the defending national champions and ranked in the Top
10.
Rochester Institute of Technology: The Tiger
special teams have been extremely successful this season. RIT's
power-play is fourth in the nation, clicking along at a 30 percent
(9 for 30) success rate. Before the Tigers went 1 for 9 on the
power-play against Canisius on Saturday, they had the top
power-play percentage scoring 38.1 (8 for 21) percent of the time
with the man-advantage. After allowing a first period power-play
goal to Bowling Green on October 19, the Tiger penalty killing unit
has successfully killed off 24 of their opponents last 25 attempts
with the man-advantage, including 18 straight. RIT is seventh
nationally in goals per game (3.6). Seniors Simon Lambert and Matt
Smith are tied for 10th nationally in points per game (1.6). Both
men have eight points in five games. Lambert is sixth in assists
per game (1.2). This weekend's home series against Air Force pits
the 2006-07 regular season AHA Champs (RIT) vs. the playoff
champions (Air Force). The Tigers went 2-1-1 against the Falcons
last season and 1-2-1 in 2005-06. The two teams could very well
meet five times in the regular season, with four conference games
and a possibility of meeting in the Dodge Holiday Classic at
Minnesota right before the new year. Tiger Head Coach Wayne Wilson
is two wins away from 150 at RIT. RIT suffered its worst loss in
Atlantic Hockey and tied for its worst loss as a Division I program
after falling to Canisius 6-2 on Saturday. RIT lost to Quinnipiac,
6-2 in its very first game as a Division I program on October 13,
2005.
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers swept UConn this
weekend, winning Friday night in Milford by a 4-2 score and
following that up witha 5-0 triumph in Storrs Saturday night.
Sophomore Matt Gordon scored two goals in Saturday's win, his first
multi-goal game of the season. Junior Paul Ferraro and sophomore
Dave Jarman each tallied a goal and two assists on the week.
Goaltender Stefan Drew made 25 saves each game, earning a shutout
Saturday night. It was the first shutout for the Pioneers' since
blanking AIC, 4-0, in last year's AHA quarterfinal playoff game.
Saturday was the first time SHU had won in Storrs since January 31,
2004. It was the first time the Pioneers had swept a weekend series
from the Huskies since winning a pair January 30-31, 2004. Sacred
Heart travels to Bentley Tuesday night in their only contest of the
week.
