weekend. AFA is 12-0 vs. AIC in the series that dates back to 1980.
The Falcons are 4-0 in games played in Springfield, including a
two-game sweep last season by scores of 6-2 and 5-1.AFA won all
four games last season, sweeping at the Academy by scores of 6-1
and 3-0...Since a 4-0 loss at Bentley, AFA is 5-3-1 in the last
nine games. The three losses have been by two goals, one goal in
regulation and one goal in overtime.
American International: AIC recorded a tie against nationally
ranked RPI before falling 5-3 to Alabama-Huntsville over the
weekend. Mike McMillan had a good showing tallying a goal and two
assists Saturday evening. He currently leads the team with 11
points while his five goals equal his output from last season.
Freshman goalie Dan Ramirez's .927 save percentage currently ranks
him 18th in the country while his 1.82 goals-against-average put
him 13th nationally. In the Jackets last four games they have
grabbed five out of a possible eight points. AIC has named Brian
Burns their new volunteer assistant coach. Burns name should ring a
bell as he was a four-year member of the Connecticut Huskies before
signing on with the Yellow Jackets. Jereme Tendler notched AIC's
second power-play score of the season Saturday.
Army: The Black Knights skated to a pair of ties with the Rochester
Institute of Technology over the weekend ... In Army's first trip
to RIT, 130 minutes was not enough to determine a winner. Neither
team led by more than a goal all weekend in a 2-2 and 1-1 draws ...
Army held RIT's league-leading power play without a goal all
weekend (0-5 on Friday and 0-8 on Saturday) ... Freshman goalie Jay
Clark turned in his best performance to date. Playing in just his
third game, Clark made 36 saves, including a penalty shot in
overtime, during Saturday's 1-1 contest. Clark was credited with 17
saves in the second period alone and turned away three shots in
overtime to run his record to 1-1-1. Junior goalie Josh Kassel made
34 saves during Friday's 2-2 draw ... Luke Flicek had three points
over the weekend with a goal Saturday and two assists Friday ...

season and 10 games because he played major juniors. He will wear
No. 1. Chris Spracklen is in the same situation as his brother. He
will sit out the season and the first 10 games of next season ...
Army will play a home-and-home series with Sacred Heart this
weekend's. Friday's game will begin at 7:05 p.m. at Tate Rink while
Saturday's contest is set for Milford, Conn., at the same time.

ever meeting between the two schools ... Freshman goalie Joe Calvi
made 39 saves against Dartmouth, a personal best in his young
career ... Bentley was whistled for only two minor penalties in
Saturday's game, the fewest penalties the Falcons have taken since
Nov. 21, 2003 ... Junior Jeff Gumaer scored Bentley's lone goal
this weekend. It was his 39th career goal, extending his Bentley
Division I record ... Gumaer also moved into a tie for fifth among
Bentley's Division I career scoring leaders with his 65th point ...
This weekend, the Falcons host defending Atlantic Hockey regular
season champions Rochester Institute of Technology for a two-game
series ... The Falcons and Tigers split series last season in both
Watertown and Rochester.
Canisius: The Griffs lost a pair of games to the country's
top-ranked team Miami during the weekend. Canisius, who is now a
2-9-2, was playing the No. 1 team for the fourth and fifth time in
school history. Freshman Eric Rex scored his first collegiate goal
against the RedHawks. Rex knocked in a puck during the second
period of the finale to score the Griffs' lone goal of the series.
He is the third Canisius freshman to score a goal this season and
the sixth to register a point. Classmate Scott Jenks posted the
assist on the goal for his fourth assist of the season. Sophomore
Andrew Loewen and freshman Taylor Anderson each saw time in goal
during the weekend. Loewen totaled 38 saves during the two games
while Anderson recorded 21 saves in his first collegiate
appearance. It was the second-straight season that a Canisius
goaltender made his debut against Miami. Last year, Loewen recorded
a school-record 61 saves in his first colligate appearance at
Miami. In the opener against Miami, senior Scott Follett missed a
game for the first time in 55 matches due to an injury. Follett's
streak of 55-consecutive games played was the sixth-longest since
the school moved to Division I. Sophomore Josh Heidinger now owns
the longest active streak, playing in 48-consecutive contests. The
Griffs return to Atlantic Hockey play next weekend with a
home-and-home series against Mercyhurst.
Connecticut: UConn's four wins have all come when the opposition
has scored the first goal of the contest. The last three Husky
victories have been via overtime. They are the only three
overtime games the Huskies have played so far, so UConn is a
perfect 3-0-0 in OT. Andrew Olson is nearly halfway to Chris
Myhro's UConn Division I freshman record of 13 goals (set in
2004-05) with six of his own. The overall freshman record for a
UConn hockey player is 22 by Dave L'Ecuyer in 1978-79. Beau
Erickson has started every game and has 314 total saves in 11
games. With the Huskies guaranteed to play at least 36 games this
season, that projects to 1,028 total saves. The UConn all-time
record for a season is 942 saves, set by Scott Tomes in 2003-04.
UConn faces Holy Cross this weekend. The Crusaders are the most
played opponent for Connecticut with 85 total games. The Huskies
hold a 43-41-1 all-time series record lead.
Holy Cross: Holy Cross' 30.2 power play percentage is ranked first
in the nation. The Crusaders are 16-53 on power play opportunities.
Freshman Everett Sheen recorded his first collegiate hat trick in
the 5-5 tie at Air Force on Saturday night. Sophomore Ryan
Driscoll's five power play goals are tied for sixth in the nation.
Senior Dale Reinhardt has 104 career points (41 goals & 63
assists). He is currently ranked eighth on the all-time Holy Cross
Division I points and goals list, while he is ninth in assists.
Reinhardt has recorded at least one point in eight of the last nine
games, while sophomore Brodie Sheahan has recorded at least one
point in five of the last six games.
Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst has now played in three straight overtime
contests (0-2-1), the longest such streak in program history.
Saturday's 2-2 tie against Sacred Heart snapped the Pioneers'
7-game winning streak against the Lakers. The Lakers got goals from
two freshmen Friday and two juniors Saturday. Defenseman Kirk
Medernach scored his second career goal Saturday. The Pioneers
picked up three points in the two games despite leading for only
7:24. The overtime game-winner Friday was the only lead SHU had in
the game. Freshman winger Brandon Coccimiglio tallied his 5th goal
of the season Friday and recorded his 4th career assists Saturday.
He's tied for second on the team in scoring with 9 points. Freshman
Steve Cameron snapped a 5-game dry spell with a goal Friday and an
assist Saturday. Junior Matt Lundin stopped a combined 66 shots in
the two games. SHU's overtime game-winner Friday deflected off a
Mercyhurst defenseman. Mercyhurst and Canisius will play a
home-and-home next weekend. The Lakers lead the all-time series
28-13-7 but were only 0-1-3 last season in which they played a
team-record ten overtime contests.
Rochester Institute of Technology: RIT tied a pair of games versus
Army last weekend. The Tigers led throughout much of the game on
Friday but a goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation forced
overtime and a tie. The Tigers had plenty of chances on Saturday,
including a penalty shot and a power play in overtime but could not
get the game-winner as they tied Army 1-1. RIT went 0-for-13 on the
power play and and out shot Army 73-65. The Tigers penalty kill
unit stopped the Black Knights 17-of-19 times. This weekend the
Tigers return to the place where they clinched the AHA regular
season title last season at Bentley. The Tigers went 2-2-0 versus
the Falcons last season and look to move closer to first place in
this year's standings with a sweep.
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers took three out of four points in their
series at Mercyhurst, nabbing a 3-2 overtime victory Friday night
and then skating to a 2-2 draw Saturday. Juniors Bear Trapp and
Eric Giosa led the SHU attack. Trapp had two goals and two assists
while Giosa netted the game winning goal Friday and had a pair of
assists on the weekend. Freshman Adam DeJong scored a goal Friday
night and now has three goals and five points on the year to lead
all SHU rookies. Trapp has now scored a goal in four of his last
five games. Sophomore Nick Johnson had an assist in each game and
has now registered at least one point in seven straight games.
Sophomore Erik Boisvert had his consecutive games with a point
streak stopped at five, being held scoreless Saturday night. The
Pioneers have now played five overtime games in their first eleven
contests, going 2-1-2 in those games. Sacred Heart is unbeaten in
its last eight meetings with Mercyhurst, turning in a 7-0-1 record.
SHU is now 2-3-1 on their current seven game road trip which ends
Friday night. The Pioneers face Army in a home-and-home series this
weekend. The teams meet Friday night at Tate Rink with the rematch
coming Saturday in Milford. Coverage of Saturday's game can be
heard on WICC 600 AM.
