Atlantic Hockey Weekly Award Winners for Games Through December 10

Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week

MIKE GURTLER - MERCYHURST
Freshman, Forward, Rochester, N.Y.
 

Gurtler recorded the first multiple- goal (2) and multiple-point (3) game of his career in Friday's 5-4 win over AIC. He doubled his goal output to 4 and increased his total points to 5. He scored the Lakers 2nd and 4th goals and his line accumulated 7 points in the game.

Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week

MATT LUNDIN - MERCYHURST
Junior, Goaltender, Apple Valley, Minn.

Lundin and the Lakers posted their first weekend sweep of the season with 5-4 and 2-1 wins over AIC. Lundin stopped a combined 50 of 55 shots in the two games. Two of the goals allowed came on AIC power plays.

Freshman, Goaltender, Rochester, N.Y.

Ramirez played excellent Saturday evening stopping 33 shots while allowing only two goals.

Atlantic Hockey Honor Roll

Mark Pavli, American International (Sr, F, Sarnia, ONT) - Pavli recorded three assists in the Jackets 5-4 setback Friday evening to the Lakers. Pavli now has four goals and seven assists giving him 11 points on the season.

Brandon Coccimiglio, Mercyhurst (Fr, F, Burlington, ONT) - Coccimiglio recorded his first career game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 win over AIC. His third period power play goal tied him for the team lead with 4. He snapped a four-game goal-scoring drought and, coupled with an assist on the Lakers' first goal, gave him his third multiple-point game of the season.

  Atlantic Hockey Team Notes

American International: American International College dropped a pair of one goal contests on the road to Mercyhurst College this weekend. Friday evening, Mike McMillan scored his team leading seventh goal of the season, but the Yellow Jackets fell 5-4. Mark Pavli notched three assists in that game. Saturday, AIC fell 2-1 despite holding a one goal lead after Chris Campanale notched his second goal of the season in the second period. AIC will take a rest before hosting Robert Morris at the Olympia Ice Center January 4th + 5th. It marks the first time the two programs have ever skated against each other.

Army: The Black Knights are in the middle of a 28-day layoff. Army last competed Dec. 1 and split a home-and-home series with Sacred Heart. The Black Knights return to action with a conference game against Connecticut in the Toyota/UConn Classic in Storrs, Conn. Army will play at 7 p.m. on Dec. 29 and then compete against either Brown or Ferris State ... Senior forward Bryce Hollweg is among the 20 players who were announced as candidates for the 2007-08 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Hollweg, a team captain, is eligible for the award which honors a player who has combined excellence in athletics, academics and community support and is presented annually to the NCAA Division I student-athlete of the year in eight sports and focuses on the four c's of classroom, character, community and competition.

Connecticut: The Huskies annual hockey tournament the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic will be running its 15th edition on December 29 and 30. It began while Connecticut was still in Division II and moved on with them when they moved up to the top level. UConn has actually had more success in the tournament in the nine years since moving up to Division I. They have reached the title game in six of those years, and won the title in 1999 and 2003. UConn will be looking to repeat the success they had last season after the break. After a 5-12-0 start before their break last season, they used the tournament to springboard to a 11-6-2 finish and a semifinal appearance in the Atlantic Hockey Playoffs.

Mercyhurst: The Lakers are now 23-2-1 lifetime against AIC and 11-0-1 at home. The 3-game winning streak is the best since the Lakers swept both Bentley and Air Force late in the 2006-07 season. Freshman forward Steve Cameron tallied his first career game-winner in the second. Freshman Brandon Coccimiglio recorded his first career game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 win over AIC. His third period power play goal tied him for the team lead with 4. He snapped a four-game goal-scoring drought and, coupled with an assist on the Lakers' first goal, gave him his third multiple-point game of the season. Freshman Dan Bremner (1g, 1a) had his first multiple-point game of the season Friday. Freshman Scott Pitt snapped a 10-game goal-scoring drought Saturday. His power play goal was his 4th of the season, tying him for the team lead. Freshman Jesse Echternach picked up his first collegiate point Friday with an assist. Senior Ben Cottreau, the team's point leader, returned Friday after a five-game absence and promptly assisted on Mercyhurst's first goal. The Lakers are now 2-1 in one-goal games this season. Mercyhurst won't play again until January 4 and 5 when they entertain Michigan Tech for the first time ever at the Ice Center.
