Milford, CT - Junior Stefan Drew (Oakbank, MB) made 31 saves and four different Pioneers scored power play goals as Sacred Heart posted a 4-0 win over Holy Cross in Atlantic Hockey action Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
With the win, the Pioneers clinched home ice advantage in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey playoffs March 7-9. The victory also kept Sacred Heart within two points of first place Army heading into next week's regular season-closing weekend series with the Black Knights.
The Pioneers scored four goals in six power play chances on the night. Junior Dave Jarman (Toronto, ON) got things started with 4:52 left in the first period. Jarman took a pass from Erik Boisvert (Boisbriand, QC) and put a shot on goal from the corner that slid through the legs of Crusader goaltender Ian Dams.
Sophomore Nick Johnson (Windsor, CT) made it 2-0 with 49 seconds left in the second period. During a power play cycle Johnson took a pass from Paul Ferraro (Pleasantville, NY) and ripped a one-timer into the back of the net for his 11th goal of the season.
SHU went up 3-0 when Bear
Trapp (Balcarres, SK) found Alexandre
Parent (Boisbriand, QC) wide open in the high slot. Parent
collected the pass, wound up and fired a shot past Dams for his
team leading 14th goal of the year. Parent, who finished the game
with a goal and an assist, now has a 14 game point scoring streak.
The two points gave him 134 for his career, good for third on the
all-time SHU list.
Ferraro completed the scoring when he blasted a shot into the back
of the goal with 1:30 left in the game.
Holy Cross had several scoring opportunities, out shooting the Pioneers 31-28 in the game and 24-16 over the final two periods. However, Drew held strong to earn his third shutout of the season.
