Atlantic Hockey Names Monthly Awards for December

Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month

 

JOSH HEIDINGER - CANISIUS
Sophomore, Forward, Buffalo, N.Y.
  

Josh Heidinger continued to lead the Griffs' offense during the month of December. The sophomore helped Canisius earn points in three games against teams receiving votes. He posted an assist in each game against Atlantic Hockey-leading Air Force to help the Griffs earn a tie in both games. He then saved his best performance for the month's finale. Against rival Niagara, Heidinger matched a career-high with three points on a personal-best two goals and one assist. It was the fifth multiple-point game of the season for Buffalo native. Heidinger, who earned the league's player of the week honors on Dec. 31, ranks fourth in Atlantic Hockey in points (19), fourth in goals (nine) and sixth in assists (10).

Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Month

 

IAN DAMS - HOLY CROSS
Sophomore, Goaltender, Manotick, ONT

Dams stopped 61 of 64 shots in two games. He made 33 saves in the 2-2 tie with Merrimack (12/4), while he stopped 28 shots in the 1-1 tie with Western Michigan (12/30). He is now 2-1-3 on the season. His 2.43 goals against average and .583 winning percentage are ranked second in Atlantic Hockey.

Other Goalies Nominated: Joe Calvi, Bentley (3 gp, 0-1-1, 3.64 GAA, .910 save %); Andrew Loewen, Canisius (4 gp, 1-1-2, 3.15 GAA, .915 save %); Matt Lundin, Mercyhurst (3 gp, 3-0-0, 2.34 GAA, .916 save %).

 

     

Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month

 

EVERETT SHEEN - HOLY CROSS
Freshman, Forward, Lethbridge, ALB
 

Sheen scored five of Holy Cross' seven goals in the four games played in the month of December. He scored two goals in the 3-3 tie with UConn (12/1), while he scored one goal each in ties with Merrimack (12/4), Vermont (12/29) and Western Michigan (12/30). For his two goal performance at the Catamount Cup, Sheen was named to the all-tournament team. He has scored nine goals in the last six games as his 10 goals this season lead the team and are tied for second in the nation by rookies. His 10 goals are ranked first in Atlantic Hockey by freshmen and are tied for second overall in the conference.
