Atlantic Hockey Names Monthly Awards for March

Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month

 

MATT PIERCE - MERCYHURST
Junior, Forward, Pakenham, ONT

11-game scoring streak to end season. Scored a goal in last six games of season in March, all power play. Also contributed three assists in March. Scored Mercyhurst's first goal in each of the last four games. Led team to 4-1-1 finish. As #5 seed in Atlantic Hockey Tournament, Lakers won four straight and took eventual champ, Air Force, to double overtime before bowing 5-4. Last three games were played within 72 hours. Named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Tournament Team. Selected to the conference Honor Roll March 17.

Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Month

 

ANDREW VOLKENING - AIR FORCE
Sophomore, Goaltender, Genoa, Ill.


Named to the All-Tournament team at the NCAA Northeast Regional as he stopped 30 of 33 shots vs. top-seeded Miami ... The first Falcon ever to be named to an all-tournament team at an NCAA Regional ... His stick save early in the second period with Miami leading 1-0 was the No. 1 Play of the Day by ESPN ... Led Air Force to its second consecutive league championship ... Swept Bentley in the AHA Quarterfinals by stopping 37 of 40 shots in the series ... Made 24 saves in a 5-0 shutout of RIT in the AHA semifinals ... Career-best 49 saves in the win over Mercyhurst in double overtime in the league championship game ... Named to the AHA All-Tournament team for the second straight season ... Ended the regular season with a shutout vs. AIC, March 1.
