St. Baldrick's Fight to Find a Cure

Would you shave your head for a child?

For the third consecutive year the Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team will be shaving our heads to raise awareness and funds for the St. Baldrick's Foundation which supports childhood cancer research.  We have raised over $33,000 in the previous three years toward this very worthy cause and we are working toward making a significant contribution again this year.  If you have donated to this cause in the past, I hope you are able to contribute again this year.  If you have not, I hope you will join us in the fight to find a cure for childhood cancer by making a donation.

To make a donation, simply scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the link next to one of the members of our team.  Once on the "Shavee" page, simply click on the "Donate Online" button and follow the directions from there.  If for any reason the link is dead, copy and paste it into your internet browser address bar and hit go...this should take you to the player of your choice.

Since its founding in 2000, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has raised over $33 million with headshavings in 18 countries.

We are working in cooperation with TeamBrent a team formed by Southport residents Mike and Dana McCreesh in honor of their son Brent who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in September of 2004.  TeamBrent was formed to raise awareness and funds to fight all childhood cancers with a focus on neuroblastoma.  Since its inception in March of 2005, TeamBrent has raised over 1.5 million dollars to fight childhood cancers, and Brent is cancer-free.  For more information go to www.TeamBrent.com

Over the past three years TeamBrent has shaved over 500 heads and raised $767 thousand for childhood cancers everywhere through its participation in St Baldrick's. TeamBrent has been the #1 team internationally for the past 2 years, and has empowered the community by bringing together children and adults to sit side by side and get their heads shaved to show solidarity with the children fighting cancer.

This year's flagship event will take place on March 13th at the Bear & Grill in Fairfield. The Total Look Salons and Academy will start shaving @ 5:30pm, pause at 7pm for speeches, MCed by sportscaster Deb Kaufman.  Shaving resumes at 8, with music and dancing by Vertigo (www.Vertigozone.com) and "head painting" by www.CTFaceArt.com.
