Steve Cameron - Mercyhurst

Sophomore, Forward, Mission, BC

Cameron recorded his second career hat-trick in the Lakers¹ 4-1 victory over Canisius last Friday at the Buffalo State Sports Arena in Buffalo, N.Y. The Mission, B.C. native opened the first period with back-to-back goals just 2:39 apart before finishing the game with an empty-net marker later in the third. The three scores improved Cameron¹s season total to 22 and helped him move up to fifth nationally in points per game (1.28).

Beau Erickson - Connecticut

Junior, Goaltender, Hinton, Iowa

Erickson allowed only three goals during the weekend series with Bentley making 56 saves and recording a 1.44 GAA during the two-game series. Erickson had a .949 save percentage on the weekend in nearly 125 minutes in goal and posted a 1-0-1 record. His 58 saves boosted him over the 2,400 mark for career saves made in a UConn uniform, which now stands 2,431. Erickson held his opponents scoreless on the six power play opportunities they had.

Luke Miller - Holy Cross

Freshman, Forward, Andover, Mass.

Miller scored four goals in two games with Sacred Heart on Feb. 27-28. In the 5-2 win on Feb. 27, he tied the game at 1-1 in the first period and then gave the Crusaders a 4-2 lead in the second period. On Feb. 28, Miller netted a power play goal in the first period, while he scored his fourth goal of the series in the third period. For the season he has six goals and eight assists for 14 points.

Brent Olson - Air Force (Sr., F, Baudette, Minn.) - Three points (2-1-3) in the RIT series...One assist on Friday...Tied his career high with two goals on Saturday...Scored the game-winner in the second period...His two goals led Air Force to a 3-1 win on Saturday, a share of the league championship and the No. 1 seed in the tournament...One power play goal and one even strength...Extended his career-best scoring streak to six games, the longest active streak on the team.

Tim Kirby - Air Force (Fr., D, Austin, Minn.) - One assist on Friday...Career-best two assists on Saturday; both assists were first assists...Assisted on the game-winning goal as he skated the puck down the left side and sent a centering to Olson who scored from the slot...Assisted on the first goal of the game that tied the score at 1-1...+1 in the series.

Tom Fenton - American International (Sr., G, Sania, ONT) - Had a stellar weekend between the pipes for AIC stopping 79 of 85 shots in this past weekend’s final regular season series with Army. Fenton made 47 saves in the series opener in West Point as the Yellow Jackets played to a 3-3 (OT) tie, and stopped 32 shots on his senior night in the back end of the series.

Michael Penny - American International (Fr., F, Calgary, ALB) - Tallied two goals in the Yellow Jackets final regular season series this past weekend with Army. Gave AIC a 1-0 lead when he netted an unassisted goal just after the Yellow Jackets killed of an Army five-on-three power-play opportunity, in the first game of the series. Scored AIC’s lone goal in the team’s final regular season game on Saturday night.

Chad Richardson - American International (Sr., F, Regina, SASK) - Netted two goals in the Yellow Jackets 3-3 tie with Army on Friday night in West Point, N.Y. With just over seven-minutes remaining in the game, Richardson cut the Black Knights lead to 3-2 when he found the back of the net. Just 49-seconds later he tied sent the game into overtime when he lit the lamp for the second time on the night.

Owen Meyer - Army (Jr., F, Dundee, Ill.) - Meyer notched his 100th career point to help Army earn three points and the No. 6 seed in the upcoming playoffs. Meyer scored two power play goals during Saturday’s 3-1 win to help Army earn a first-round bye. He is the 54th player to top the century mark in career points and did it in his 99th career game. Meyer scored his sixth and seventh power play goals of the season and netted his third game-winning goal of the season.

Nick Moise - Bentley (Sr., G, East Walpole, Mass.) - A senior, Moise made his first start of the season on Senior Night and helped Bentley earn a 2-2 draw with UConn on Saturday night to close out the regular season. He made 28 saves and kept the Huskies off the scoreboard for two periods. He also helped force UConn into an 0-7 night on the power play, and helped kill off a 5-on-3 for the Huskies that lasted for 1:19.

Adam Brace - Canisius (Fr., F, Cobden, ONT) - Brace tallied two points in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime loss at Mercyhurst, scoring a goal and adding an assist. The rookie scored his fourth goal of the season to cut the Lakers’ advantage to 3-2 and then assisted on the game-tying goal with just 1:14 left in regulation. Brace ranks eighth in Atlantic Hockey among rookies with 17 points this season.

Jeff Sapieha - Connecticut (So., F, Calgary, ALB) - Sapieha recorded four points on the weekend for the Huskies including a three-point performance in Friday night’s match up with Bentley. Sapieha was a part of three of the four goals on the night scoring one goal and two assists. On Saturday, he recorded one assists on the game-tying goal by Brendan Bayers to help the Huskies to the 2-2 tie and keep themselves undefeated on the weekend. Sapieha ended the weekend with a +4, the most of any Husky during the series. With these four points recorded, Sapieha added to his career points total which now stands at 20.

Everett Sheen - Holy Cross (So., F, Lethbridge, ALB) - Sheen recorded five assists in the two games against Sacred Heart on Feb. 27-28. In the 5-2 win on Feb. 27, he had two assists, while on Feb. 28, he assisted on all three goals. Sheen has seven assists in the last four games. For the year, he leads the team in assists with 13, while he is tied for second in points with 22 and is third in goals with nine.

Ryan Zapolski - Mercyhurst (So., G, Erie, Pa.) - Zapolski registered his 15th win of the season in a 4-1 win over Canisius on Friday. The Erie, Pa. native held the Golden Griffins scoreless through 58:21 of play and registered 30 saves. Zapolski¹s performance improved his conference save percentage to .931 and lowered his goals against average to 2.25, both of which rank in the top-3 in Atlantic Hockey play.

Brennan Sarazin - RIT (Sr., F, Nepean, ONT) - Sarazin recorded four points on two goals and two assists in a weekend split against Air Force, as the two teams split the 2009 AHA regular season title. Sarazin had a goal and two assists in Friday’s 6-4 win and scored his 18th goal of the season in Saturday’s 3-1 loss. Sarazin has 22 points (10-12-22)in his last 14 games and leads RIT with 18 goals and 35 points in 34 games this season.

Eric Giosa - Sacred Heart (Sr., F, Northville, Mich.) - Giosa scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner, Saturday night in a Senior Night victory over Holy Cross in Milford. Giosa bookended the game, scoring the first goal in the first period and then the game winner, with 21 seconds remaining in the extra session. The senior finished the regular season as the Pioneers leading goal scorer with 14 tallies.

Bear Trapp - Sacred Heart (Sr., F, Regina, SASK) - Trapp had a big Senior Night, tallying a goal and three assists and figuring in on all four SHU goals in a 4-3 Pioneer victory Saturday night. After assisting on the first two goals, Trapp scored Sacred Heart’s third tally, which briefly gave the Pioneers the lead in the third period. He then had the only assist on the game wining goal late in overtime. The senior finished the regular season with a team high 21 assists and a team leading 29 points.

Atlantic Hockey Team Notes

Air Force: Air Force clinched a share of the AHA regular-season championship with the win on Saturday. The regular-season title is the first in school history...This is Air Force’s third year in Atlantic Hockey and the Falcons have three championships (2007 and 2008 tournament and 2009 regular season...AFA has won six of its last eight, including six straight at home...Air Force set a new school record with 23 Division I wins and 20 conference wins this season...Jacques Lamouruex scored two goals on Friday to mark the seventh time this season he has scored multiple goals...Lamoureux’s 28 goals this season tie as the 11th most in school history and the most by any Falcon since Frank Daldine had 28 in 1984-85. He is one of just 13 players in school history with 28 or more goals in a season...His 23 goals in AHA games this season are the second most in league history. Mercyhurst’s Dave Borelli had 24 in 2005-06...Lamoureux’s 38 points in league games are the eighth most in school history. His 12 power-play goals in league games tie as the second most in AHA history. Mercyhurst’s Dave Borrelli had 13 in 2005-06...Lamoureux’s 14 power play goals in all games are the third most in school history. Mark Manney (1981-82) and current assistant coach Andy Berg (2002-03) each had 15 power play goals...Lamoureux has eight goals in his last seven games...Senior defenseman Greg Flynn tied his career high with three assists on Friday. He now has 26 points (3-23-26) in league games this season, which ties as the third most in league history by a defenseman. Mercyhurst’s Jamie Hunt had 37 in 2005-06 and Quinnipiac’s Reid Cashman had 36 in 2004-05...Volkening’s 34 saves on Friday are a season high and the most since he had a career high 49 in the double overtime win over Mercyhurst in last season’s AHA championship game...Matt Fairchild’s goal on Friday was his 14th of the season. He has four on the power play, four short-handed and six even strength. He now has a point in 10 of his last 14 games...Freshman Paul Weisgarber scored his first goal since Nov. 28 vs. Colo. College with a goal on Friday vs. RIT...Tim Kirby had a career high two assists on Saturday including the first assist on the game-winning goal...Brent Olson tied a career high with two goals on Saturday, including the game winner...Air Force has hosted a playoff game/series in each of its three years in Atlantic Hockey. The Falcons are 3-0 in those games. Air Force is 14-3 at home this season with the only losses to RIT and Canisius (twice)...AFA has a current six-game sellout streak at Cadet Ice Arena and has 11 sellouts this season. Both are Academy records for all sports. The average crowd of 2,630 is 105.1 percent of capacity, the best mark in the nation...The three home losses have been by a combined four goals...Air Force was a +3 in special teams in the RIT series and is now a +25 for the season on special teams.

American International: The Yellow Jackets went 0-1-1 in this past weekend’s regular season finale with Army. AIC tied the Black Knights 3-3 (OT) in the first game of the series in West Point, N.Y. and then lost the back end of the home and home 3-1 in West Springfield, Mass. Freshman Michael Penny gave the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 when he tallied an unassisted goal just after the team killed an Army five-on-three power-play chance. Army then recorded three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead until midway through the third period. Senior Chad Richardson cut the Black Knights lead to 3-2 when he scored with 7:19 left in the game. Richardson then tied the game at 3-3 when he netted a goal just 49-second later. Senior Tom Fenton made 47 saves in a spectacular game in goal for AIC. In the back end of the home-and-home series, Army tallied two power-play goals early in the first period then one more in the second to take a 3-0 lead heading to the game’s final period. Penny netted the Yellow Jackets only goal of the game late in the third period as the Black Knights recorded a 3-1 win. Fenton stopped 32 shots in another fine game in net for AIC. Next up, the Yellow Jackets travel to Holy Cross on Saturday night for the first round of the AHA playoff.

Army: The Black Knights concluded the regular season with an 11-17-6 overall mark and a 10-12-6 conference mark to finish sixth in the league standings following a win and tie against AIC … Army will play an AHA quarterfinal series at Mercyhurst beginning March 13 …. Army and Mercyhurst split four games during the regular season with each team winning two games on home ice … Army tied AIC on Friday 3-3 in overtime and won Saturday’s contest 3-1 … Owen Meyer scored two play goals during Saturday’s victory for his 100th career point. Meyer is the 54th Army player to top the century mark and first since Luke Flicek last season. For the season, Meyer has seven power play goals, three game-winning goals and three short-handed tallies. In 99 career games, Meyer has 52 goals and 48 assists … Eric Sefchik notched his fifth multiple-point game of the season with a goal and assist on Saturday … Cody Omilusik had two assists on Saturday, his 10th career multiple-point game … Army honored its seven seniors – Dave Horvath, Mark Tilch, Zach McKelvie, Matt Hickey, Will Ryan, Bill Leahy and Josh Kassel prior to Friday’s regular season finale at Tate Rink. All six players were in the starting lineup … Leahy returned to the lineup after missing nine games and scored his first goal of the season … Tilch had an assist in both games over the weekend … Pat Copeland registered his first point of the season, an assist in Friday’s tie … Mike Hull scored on a penalty shot during Friday’s game after AIC was called for covering the puck in the crease. The goal was the first time Army has scored on a penalty shot since Owen Meyer converted a penalty shot against AIC in the playoffs last season … Mark Dube had a goal and assist in Friday’s game, his second multiple-point game of the season … Army racked up 50 shots on goal Friday … Army has converted one of its two penalty shots this season … Owen Meyer scored Army’s last goal on a penalty shot on March 8, 2008, against AIC in the playoffs … The 50 shots on goal were the most by an Army teams since registering 51 against Connecticut on Feb. 2 of last year.

Bentley: Bentley closed out one of the most successful regular seasons in program history with a loss and tie to UConn over the weekend. Bentley finishes the regular season with a record of 17-15-2 and 15-11-2 in Atlantic Hockey. The Falcons finish in fourth place in the conference, which is tied with the 2005-06 club for the team’s best finish since joining Atlantic Hockey. But Bentley’s 32 points this year is the most ever. The 17 overall wins is third most in program history so far (trailing the 1980-81 team that went 20-1 and the 1996-97 team that went 18-9-1). The 17 wins is also the team’s most at the Division I level, and Bentley also assured themselves of its first winning record in the regular season at the Division I level. Senior Dain Prewitt finishes the regular season with 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists), which is the third highest single-scoring season in the team’s Division I history. His 17 goals is third most. Sophomore Dustin Cloutier’s 33 points is tied for the fourth highest total, and senior Anthony Canzoneri’s 21 assists is the third highest total. Freshman goalie Kyle Rank had his personal eight game winning streak snapped in Friday’s 4-1 loss. It was his first loss since Jan. 3 to RIT. On Senior Night, senior goalie Nick Moise made 28 saves in his first start of the season. Bentley will meet Canisius in the quarterfinals. Bentley went 4-0-0 against the Golden Griffins this season, out-scoring them by a total of 20-11. The Falcons scored a season high eight goals in a 8-3 win on Jan. 3. Cloutier was the team’s leading scorer in the four games at 5-4-9. He also scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win in Watertown on Nov. 21.

Canisius: Canisius wrapped up the 2008-09 regular season with a pair of losses to Mercyhurst. The Griffs lost to the Lakers 4-1 and 4-3 in overtime. Canisius finished the regular season with a 14-14-6 record and 12-12-4 in Atlantic Hockey play. The Griffs earned the five seed for the Atlantic Hockey playoffs and will play at No. 4 Bentley. Canisius’ overtime contest against Mercyhurst was its 12th overtime game of the season, one shy of the school record. Canisius is 4-2-6 in the extra frame, losing its last two games. Eight of the last 13 games against Mercyhurst have gone to overtime, including three this season. Since the beginning of the 2006-07 season, the Lakers hold a slight 5-4-5 advantage in the series. Freshman Scott Moser scored the Griffs’ lone goal on Friday with just 1:39 left in the game. His goal plus the Griffs’ three scores on Saturday clinched Canisius’ first Division I season of not being shut out in a single contest. In 34 games this season, Canisius was held to just one goal on only four occasions. In Saturday’s game, sophomore Cory Conacher plus freshmen Adam Brace and Dave Kostuch each tallied a goal. Conacher’s goal was his third short-handed goal of the season, tying the school’s Division I record. His first two short-handed tallies came against Ferris State in the season opener. Kostuch led the Griffs in goals during the regular season, notching 18 scores and eight power play goals. Both marks are tied for second in the program’s Division I history. Kostuch ranks first nationally among rookies with 0.55 goals per game. Freshman Dan Morrison anchored the Griffs’ defensive effort on Saturday. The rookie stopped a career-best 41 shots in the overtime defeat. Canisius’ penalty kill unit was very strong during the weekend. Mercyhurst, who entered the weekend ranked third nationally on the power play, did not convert a single extra man opportunity in 13 chances. In Saturday’s contest, Canisius killed a five-minute major, which included four minutes of 5-on-3, and then scored the game-tying goal with just 1:14 left in regulation. Bentley won all four meetings with the Griffs this season. The Falcons defeat Canisius 4-3 and 4-2 at home before winning 8-3 and 4-3 in Amherst. Canisius has never lost to the same team six times in a single season.

Connecticut: The Huskies went undefeated on the week posting a 1-0-1 record in their final regular season weekend against Bentley. They finished the regular season with a 9-25-2 record, 8-18-2 in Atlantic Hockey. UConn began the weekend series with a strong showing on Senior Night. The Huskies got out to a 3-0 lead after the first two periods with one goal coming in the first and two coming within 25 seconds in the second period. After allowing Bentley to score in the third, the Huskies added on a late goal to regain their three-goal lead and finish with the 4-1 victory. In game two, it was Bentley that came out firing. The Falcons had a 2-0 lead but UConn used the third period to come back and tie the game up at two-all sending it into overtime. Brendan Bayers scored the tying goal for the Huskies who finished the month of February with a 3-5-1 record, ending their regular season on a three-game unbeaten streak, their longest of the season.

Holy Cross: The Crusaders will host American International in the single-game elimination first round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament on March 7. Holy Cross won the season series with the Yellow Jackets, 3-1-0, including winning both game in Worcester. The Crusaders are 17-7-4 all time against the Yellow Jackets at the Hart Center, including a 4-1-0 record in the last five games in Worcester. Holy Cross is 2-0-0 against American International in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament with a 5-0 win on March 13, 2004, and a 3-1 win on March 11, 2006. Both of those games were in the quarterfinals as the contest in 2006 was in Worcester. Both times that the Crusaders have played the Yellow Jackets in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament, Holy Cross has gone onto win the title. Holy Cross is 4-0-0 all-time in Atlantic Hockey Tournament games played at the Hart Center. Holy Cross defeated Sacred Heart in 2005 and the Yellow Jackets, Connecticut and Bentley in 2006. The Crusaders have a 7-4-0 record all-time in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament as they have won two titles (2004 & 2006). Last season, Holy Cross was swept in the best two-out-of-three quarterfinals series at RIT as it lost two 5-4 overtime games. In 2007, Holy Cross lost at Air Force in the quarterfinals. In 2006 at the Hart Center, Holy Cross defeated AIC in the quarterfinals (3-1), UConn in the semifinals (4-1) and Bentley in the championship game (5-2), earning their second title and second NCAA Tournament appearance. Holy Cross won the first-ever Atlantic Hockey Tournament in 2004, earning the program’s first ever spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Crusaders defeated AIC (5-0), Canisius (4-1) and Sacred Heart in the title game (4-0). In 2005, Holy Cross defeated Sacred Heart, 4-2, in the quarterfinals, but then fell to eventual champion Mercyhurst, 4-3 (OT), in the semifinals. In 1999, the Crusaders won the MAAC Tournament Championship by defeating Canisius, 4-3, in the finals. Junior goalie Ian Dams (Manotick, Ontario) now has 1,034 career saves which moves him to third all-time on the Holy Cross Division I career saves list. Also his 15 victories are fifth all-time. Freshman Luke Miller (Andover, Mass.) has scored four goals in the last two games. Sophomore Jordan Cyr (Winnipeg, Manitoba) has three goals and three assists for six points in the last four games. His 17 goals are tied for fourth on the Holy Cross Division I single-season goals list. Sophomore Everett Sheen (Lethbridge, Alberta) has seven assists in the last four games.

Mercyhurst: The Mercyhurst College men¹s hockey team secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Hockey postseason tournament with a pair of win over Canisius this past weekend. The Lakers defeated the Golden Griffins, 4-1, in Buffalo before posting a 4-3 OT victory on senior night in Erie. Sophomore Steve Cameron registered his second career hat-trick with three goals in game one while junior Cody Collins netted a goal in each game. Sophomore Ryan Zapolski earned the win on Friday with 30 saves and one goal allowed before senior Matt Lundin secured the sweep with 35 stops on Saturday. The Lakers will have the following weekend off to prepare for Army in the AHA Quarterfinals beginning on Friday, March 13 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.  The Lakers and Black Knights split the season series, 2-2.

Rochester Institute of Technology: RIT finishes the regular season as the 2009 Atlantic Hockey Regular Season co-champions with Air Force after splitting the weekend series in front of two sellout crowds at Ritter Arena. The Tigers will be the #2 seed in the AHA Tournament, as Air Force earned the #1 seed due to a tiebreaker. RIT had its six-game unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday. RIT finished the regular season with a 16-2-1 mark over its last 19 games and tied the Division I school record with 21 wins (21-11-2). Both RIT and Air Force set an Atlantic Hockey record with 42 points (both 20-6-2 records) in conference play. The Tigers have a bye this weekend and will host the highest remaining seed remaining from #7 Holy Cross vs. #10 American International or #8 Sacred Heart vs. #9 Connecticut, who play a one-game playoff on Saturday. The AHA quarterfinals will be played on March 13-15. The Tigers are now 13-0-1 when leading after two periods, 12-2-1 in the second game of a weekend series and 14-0-0 when scoring at least five goals in a game this season. RIT is tied for the Division I lead with 10 shorthanded goals after scoring one against Air Force on Friday. RIT is tied for third in Division I in scoring, averaging 3.71 goals per game (three of the top four scoring teams are from Atlantic Hockey). The Tigers have tremendously balanced scoring, with seven players scoring at least 25 points and 14 in double digits.The Tiger power-play is 27-for-94 (28.7 percent) in the last 16 games. They have moved up to third in the nation overall at 21.1 percent. Brennan Sarazin has 22 points over his last 14 games (10-12-22). Freshman Tyler Brenner is tied for fourth among all freshmen in scoring with 30 points. The Tigers have a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) on the road. RIT is 11-4-0 at home this season and has scored 73 goals in 15 home games (4.9 per game). RIT has averaged 1,851 fans per home games this season (Ritter Arena capacity is 2,100) and have five sellouts, including three in a row.

Sacred Heart: The Pioneers split their final regular season series with Holy Cross, with each team winning on their home ice. Sacred Heart honored their seven-member senior class prior to Saturday’s game including Anthony Barela, Paul Ferraro, Kyle Tyll, Eric Giosa, Stefan Drew, Dave Grimson and Bear Trapp. Giosa scored the overtime-game winner Saturday night as the Pioneers won on Senior Night. Giosa finished the regular season with a team leading 14 goals. Trapp factored in on all four goals Saturday night, tallying a goal and three assists. He finished the regular season leading the team in points (29) and assists (21). Trapp enters the playoffs ranked second in career points (152), first in career assists (98) and fifth in goals (55). Senior Kyle Tyll skated in his 142nd career game Saturday night, tying him for second most all-time. The Pioneers will be the eighth seed in the AHA playoffs and will host UConn in a first round game Saturday night in Milford. This is the second straight year and the third time in the last four seasons Sacred Heart and UConn will meet in the playoffs. The Huskies upset the Pioneers in the quarterfinals in 2006 while the Pioneers won last year’s quarterfinal series two games to one. Sacred Heart won both regular season meetings with the Huskies in Milford.
