Junior, Goaltender, Genoa, Ill. Andrew Volkening recorded his sixth shutout of the season and 11th of his career in the win over Michigan on Friday in the NCAA East Regional...He went 262 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, a span of 13 periods, both school records...Volkening was named the East Regional all-tournament team for the second consecutive season...Volkening’s 43 vs. Michigan are the second most of his career and the most ever in a regulation game. He had 49 saves in the double overtime win over Mercyhurst in the AHA Championship Game in 2008...Volkening is sixth in the nation in GAA at 1.97 and is 19th in the nation in saved percentage at .920, shattering his own school records in both categories he set last season...Made 32 saves in the double overtime loss to Vermont in the NCAA East Regional final...In two NCAA games against Michigan and Vermont, he stopped 75 of 78 shots for a .961 saves percentage and a 1.16 GAA. | |

| Air Force: Air Force earned its first ever NCAA win with a 2-0
shutout over Michigan on Friday, March 27, in the NCAA East
Regional...The Falcons came within a double overtime goal by
Vermont of advancing to its first ever Frozen Four...The game vs.
Vermont was the longest in school history, 94 minutes and 10
seconds. The previous record came in the AHA Championship Game in
2008 vs. Mercyhurst, 80:56...The Michigan win was Air Force’s
third straight shutout (Bentley, 3-0; Mercyhurst 2-0; Michigan
2-0)...Air Force played in a school record 41 games of the
season...Since 2007, Air Force is the only team in the NCAA to win
a conference championship each of the last three years...The
Falcons’ 28 wins this year are a school record...This
year’s senior class has won more games than any other class
in school history. The class is 78-59-15...Air Force is fourth in
the nation in scoring offense at 3.61 goals per game and is sixth
in the nation in scoring defense at 2.06 goals allowed per
game...AFA ended the season by killing 24 consecutive opponent
power plays (four vs. Vermont, seven vs. Michigan, six vs.
Mercyhurst, four vs. Bentley and three vs. Sacred Heart)...Jacques
Lamoureux leads the nation in goals per game (0.80); his second
period goal vs. Michigan was his 33rd of the year. His 33 goals
this season are the most at Air Force in 29 years and tie as the
seventh most in school history...Lamoureux also leads the nation
with 15 power-play goals, nine game-winners and is second with 53
points...Defenseman Greg Flynn finished the season with 35 assists
and 42 points in 41 games. He is the No. 1 scoring defenseman in
the nation at 1.03 points per game...Jacques Lamoureux is one of 10
finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. He was the 2009
Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year. Lamoureux is Air Force’s
second Hobey Baker Finalist. Eric Ehn was the other back in
2007...Derrick Burnett’s goal on Friday as his eighth of the
season and his third power-play goal...Matt Fairchild had an assist
on Lamoureux’s goal last night, his 20th assist on the
season. He had at least one point in five straight games and in 16
of the last 20...Four Air Force players were named to the East
Regional all-tournament team, the most in school history.
Goaltender Andrew Volkening was named to his second consecutive
all-tournament team. He was joined on the team by Jacques
Lamoureux, Sean Bertsch and Greg Flynn. |
