Scott Mathis, Air Force (Fr., D, Crystal Lake, Ill.) - Three
points on one goal and two assists...Career-best two assists on
Friday...First career goal was the game-winner on Saturday on the
power play...Three blocked shots, the most by any Falcon in the
series...Entered the game with just five points in the previous 10
games and had three in the SHU series...His eight points on the
season are the third most in the nation by a freshman defensemen
and the most by an AHA freshman defensemen.
Andrew Volkening, Air Force (Jr., G, Genoa, Ill.) - Played all 120
minutes in the series sweep of Sacred Heart...GAA of 1.00 and a
saves percentage of .957...Earned both wins and improved to 12-0 on
the season...26 saves on Saturday were his third most of the
season...His 44 saves on the weekend are his third most in any
series this season...Sacred Heart came into the weekend averaging
5.0 goals per series. Volkening held them to just two goals on the
weekend...Has allowed more than two goals just once this
season...Has allowed one goal or less in six of his last seven
starts...Ranks fourth in the nation in GAA with a 1.24...Is seventh
in the nation with a .944 saves percentage...Volkening’s
stats are the best in the nation among goaltenders with more than
480 minutes played. Volkening has played 726 minutes this
season.
Nielsson Arcibal, American International (Fr., F, Vista, Calif.) -
Tallied his second goal and fifth assist in the Yellow Jackets
5-1win over Holy Cross on Friday night. Recorded an assist on
AIC’s first goal of the game then later found the back of the
net to give the Yellow Jakcets a 3-0 lead in the second period.
Chad Richardson, American International (Sr., F, Regina, SASK) -
Had a goal and an assist in the Yellow Jackets 5-1 victory over
Holy Cross on Friday night. Scored AIC’s fist goal of the
game and had an assist in the second period.
Dustin Cloutier, Bentley (So., F, Berkley, Mich.) - Cloutier had a
four point weekend with two goals and two assists. He broke a 3-3
tie and scored the game-winning goal with 2:11 left in
Friday’s game. He also had the primary assist on
Bentley’s second goal of the game which gave them a 2-1 lead
in the second period. In Saturday’s game he assisted on
Bentley’s first goal and scored a goal of his own.
Dain Prewitt, Bentley (Sr., F, Westminster, Colo.) - Prewitt had a
three goal weekend and helped Bentley sweep Canisius at home. His
second period goal in Friday’s game gave the Falcons a 3-1
lead. On Saturday he scored twice in the second period, including
once on the power play, to give Bentley a 3-0 lead heading into the
third period.
Kyle Rank, Bentley (Fr., G, Islip, N.Y.) - Rank saved 26 shots on
Saturday night as Bentley completed a sweep of Canisius. He helped
stop Canisius’ first nine power play opportunities. Over his
last two games he is 1-0-1 with a 1.29 GAA and a .952 saves
percentage. He’s allowed just three goals over his last
125:00 minutes.
Scott Moser, Canisius (Fr., F, Tonawanda, N.Y.) - In just his third
collegiate game, Moser led the Griffs with two points in
Canisius’ finale against Bentley. The freshman scored his
first collegiate goal and then added his first career assist on the
power play later in the game.
Chris Ochoa, Connecticut (Jr., F, Santa Monica, Calif.) - Ochoa has
been on fire as of late. He has scored a goal in three straight
games including three during the weekend series with RIT. In the
two game series, Ochoa scored three goals (two of the power play
kind) on seven shots for a .429 shot percentage. He finished the
weekend with a plus minus of +1. Ochoa’s goal during the
first game of the series was the game-winner helping UConn to stop
a six-game skid and win their third game of the season. He
continued his offense into the second game scoring the first goal
of the night for the Huskies. Ochoa would later add on a second
goal which gave UConn the lead at the time of the goal.
Adam Roy, Holy Cross (So., G, Feeding Hills, Mass.) - Roy stopped
37 out of 41 shots that he faced in the two-game home-and-home
series with AIC. In the 3-0 win in the second game, he recorded his
first collegiate shutout as he made 17 saves.
Jay Silvia, Holy Cross (Fr, F, Burlington, Mass.) - Silvia scored
his second goal of the year in the 3-0 victory over AIC on Nov. 22.
He scored Holy Cross’ third goal of the game in the third
period.
Scott Pitt, Mercyhurst (So., F, Ottawa, ONT) - Pitt’s four
points against Army this past weekend helped the Lakers record
their first sweep of the season. In Friday night’s 6-2
victory, the Ottawa, Ontario native netted his first goal of the
season late in the second period to improve the Lakers’ lead
to 5-1. The very next day in 6-3 win, Pitt exploded with two goals
and an assist. His first goal, which held up as the eventual
game-winner, gave the team a 4-2 lead in the middle stanza while
his second extended the score to 5-3 later in the frame. Pitt also
registered an assist on team’s first goal of the game.
Ryan Zapolski, Mercyhurst (So., G, Erie, Pa.) - Zapolski’s
performance this past weekend helped the Lakers down Army in
back-to-back games. On Friday, he stopped 35 shots in his second
start of the season to uphold a 6-2 victory, while on Saturday, he
turned aside 23 shots to net a 6-3 decision. Zapolski is now 2-0-1
and is unbeated in three AHA consecutive starts.
Tyler Brenner, R.I.T. (Fr., F, Linwood, ONT) - Brenner helped RIT
to a 1-1-0 week last week at UCONN. The freshman forward tallied a
goal and an assist as RIT split the weekend series with the
Huskies. On Friday Brenner had the secondary assist on RIT’s
lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Huskies. On Saturday the freshman
forward tallied the game-winning goal in a
5-4 come-from-behind win for the Tigers. His goal at 6:34 of the
third period gave RIT their first lead of the weekend and proved to
be the game-winning goal.
Al Mazur, R.I.T. (Jr., D, Burnaby, BC) - Mazur had three points in
a split over UCONN last weekend. The junior defenseman tallied
three helpers for the Tigers. He had the primary assist on Friday
as RIT fell to the Huskies 2-1. He picked up two more assists on
Saturday as RIT came from behind and beat UCONN 5-4. His second
assist on Saturday was the primary assist in the game-tying goal.

Air Force: Perfect 12-0 record on the season,
the only undefeated and untied team in the nation...20 points and a
10-0 league record with an 11-point lead over second-place
Canisius, RIT and Bentley...The 12-0 start and 12-game winning
streak is the longest in school history...AFA has a 11-game
conference winning streak, the 11th longest in NCAA history. RPI
holds the NCAA record for the longest conference winning streak
(ECAC) at 25 games from Nov. 17-1984-Nov. 15, 1985. AFA’s
current 15-game conference unbeaten streak ties as the seventh
longest in NCAA history. Maine holds the NCAA record
with a 34-game conference unbeaten streak (Hockey East) from Jan.
25, 1992-Feb. 13, 1993. The 15-game conference unbeaten streak
dates back to a 3-1 loss at Mercyhurst, Feb. 8, 2008....AFA has a
15-game conference unbeaten streak dating back to a 3-1 loss to
Mercyhurst, Feb. 8, 2008...AFA has won nine-straight home games,
the longest in school history vs. Division I teams...AFA has a
13-game home unbeaten streak dating back to a 4-3 overtime loss to
RIT, Jan. 12, 2008...AFA has not lost a home game in regulation in
more than a year. The last home loss in regulation was a 5-3
Mercyhurst, Nov. 2, 2007 (a streak of 22 games)...Left winger Matt
Fairchild and defenseman Greg Flynn had six points in the SHU
series. Both had two goals and four assists...Josh Frider has
scored in every game this season for a 12-game point-scoring
streak. His streak is the longest by a Falcon since 1998...Michael
Mayra scored his first goal of the season in Friday’s win and
had a season-best three points in the series...AFA has the No. 1
offense (5.17 goals per game), No. 1 power play (27.7), the No. 3
scoring defense (1.25 goals allowed per game) and the No. 6 penalty
kill (92.9)...AFA faces No. 3 Colorado College and No. 10 Denver
this week...AFA’s last win over Colorado College was in 1985
as CC has won 25 straight vs. Air Force and is unbeaten in the last
30 games in the series...AFA beat No. 4 Denver last season at the
Academy, 5-2, to mark the highest ranked team Air Force has ever
beaten.
American International: In a weekend home-and-home with Holy Cross,
the Yellow Jackets went 1-1 over the weekend, it was their third
weekend in a row in which they have split a series, making their
record 3-9-0 for the season and 3-7-0 in Atlantic Hockey play. . In
the first game, AIC found the back of the net five times to record
a 5-1 victory over the Crusaders. Senior Chad Richardson gave the
Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead just 2:59 into the first period with
assists from sophomore Steve McLeod and freshman Nielsson Arcibal.
AIC increased their lead to 2-0 as freshman Rody Selk netted his
second goal of the season. Junior Mike McMillan and freshman
Luciano Primiani dished out the assists on Selk’s goal.
Arcibal pushed the Yellow Jacket lead to 3-0 as he tallied his
second goal of the year, with assists from Richardson and junior
Frankie DeAngelis. Holy Cross looked to make a comeback midway
through the second period as sophomore Joe Brock found the back of
the net to make the score 3-1, but McLeod quickly recovered
AIC’s three goal lead as he netted his first goal of the
season. Senior Matt Woodard capped off the Yellow Jackets third
consequtive home win, as he tallied an empty net goal. Goaltenader,
sophomore Dan Ramirez made 37 saves in the victory. In the second
game, AIC played well but lost to the Crusaders 3-0 in Worcester.
Senior Tom Fenton made 20 stops in the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
Next up, AIC travels to Watertown, Mass. as they take on AHA foe
Bentley on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
Army: The Black Knights fell to 3-7-1 overall and 3-6-1 in
conference play after losing a pair of games to Mercyhurst, in
Erie, Pa. In the third and fourth games of an 11-game road trip,
Army lost 6-2 and 6-3 … Freshman defenseman Scott Warner
scored his first two career goals in Saturday’s loss. Warner
scored early in the first period to stake the Black Knights to a
2-0 advantage … Sophomore forward Chris Spracklen registered
his first career point, assisting on one of Warner’s goals
… Jack Barnes scored his first career goal in Friday’s
setback … Bryant Skarda had an assist Friday and scored a
goal on Saturday … All three of Army’s goalies played
over the weekend. Josh Kassel started both games and made 23 saves,
Joe Spracklen played in 35:46 of the first game with 23 saves while
Jay Clark was in net for the third period on Saturday and made 11
saves … Joe Spracklen made his first appearance of the
season, entering in the second period. He tied his career high with
those 23 saves … Army will continue its season-long 11-game
road trip with a non-conference game at Union on Friday.
Bentley: Bentley swept Canisius over the weekend and is 3-1-1 in
its last five games, 4-0-1 in its last five Atlantic Hockey games
and unbeaten in its last four games. The Falcons improved to 3-0-0
at home for the first time since 1998-99. On Friday Bentley was
trailing 1-0 after the first period, but scored three times in the
second period on goals from Brendan Harrison, Herbie Kent and Dain
Prewitt. The Golden Griffins tied it in the third, but a goal by
Dustin Cloutier with 2:11 left gave Bentley a 4-3 win. Joe Calvi
made 18 saves to pick up his third win in a row. The next night,
Bentley won 4-2 and got two goals from its struggling power play
unit, one from Prewitt in the second period and one from Cloutier
in the third. Prewitt added another goal in the second period to
give him three tallies for the weekend. Goalie Kyle Rank saved 26
shots to record his second win in a row. Prewitt’s goal on
Friday was the 88th point of Prewitt’s career, making him the
all-time leading point-scorer in Bentley’s Division I
history. Teammate Jeff Gumaer is in third place with 83 points.
Bentley welcomes American International to Ryan Skating Arena on
Tuesday and is then off until Dec. 5. Bentley went 1-2-1 against
AIC last season and 0-1-1 at home.
Canisius: The Griffs dropped a pair of games at Bentley by scores
of 4-3 and 4-2. The losses snapped the Griffs four-game winning
streak in league play, their longest run since the 2003-04 season.
In Friday’s contest, sophomore Vincent Scarsella opened the
scoring with a short-handed tally. The score was the Griffs’
fourth short-handed goal of the season, tied for second in the
nation. Canisius also killed its first six penalties of the
weekend, extending the program’s Division I record for
consecutive power plays killed with 38. The streak topped the
previous record of 37, set last season. The Griffs nearly rallied
from a two-goal deficit in the third period of the opener. Brandon
Cummings and Carl Hudson both scored for the Griffs before Bentley
scored the game-winning goal with just 2:11 remaining. Scott Moser
and Adam Brace also tallied third-period goals for the Griffs in
the finale. Canisius has outscored opponents in the third period
during its last five contests and nine of the last 10 games. For
the season the Griffs own an 18-6 advantage in the third period,
including a 14-4 edge in Atlantic Hockey contests. The goals for
Moser and Brace in the finale were the first of their careers. Both
added an assist in the weekend for their first two career points of
their collegiate careers. The Griffs wrap up their non-conference
schedule next weekend with a pair of games at Clarkson.
Connecticut: UConn returned to Mark E. Freitas Ice Forum for their
first home weekend series since October 24 and 25 when the Huskies
swept Army. In the first game of the series, UConn got off to a
quick start when Andrew Olson scored his first goal since the Army
series just 1:03 into the game. On the goal, freshman Corey Jendras
tallied the first point of his collegiate career with an assist.
RIT evened things up three minutes later but Chris Ochoa score his
first goal of the game and second in as many games giving the
Huskies a lead that they would be able to maintain for the final
two periods. Another freshman, Brad Cooper tallied his first career
point on an assist of the Ochoa goal and Matt Pedemonti tacked on
his second assist of the year. In the second game of the series
UConn came out to a quick two goal lead just five minutes into the
game. Ochoa scored the first goal of the night for the Huskies at
5:03 and just 38 seconds later, freshman Marcello Ranallo tacked on
another goal for the 2-0 lead. Ochoa again got some help on his
goal from Petemonti as the two teamed up to score the last goal in
the first game and the first goal in the second game of the
weekend. RIT would tie the game up at 2-2 but before the end of the
the first period, Sean Erickson would score his second goal of the
season and give the Huskies the one-goal lead. RIT again tied the
game up in the second but Chris Ochoa would score his second goal
of the game and give UConn the lead. Jason Krispel, who already had
an assist on the night on the Marcello Ranallo goal, added his
second of the evening on Ochoa’s goal and was the first Husky
to record double digit assists as he now has 10 on the season. RIT
tied the game up for the third time Saturday night and eventually
took a lead that the Huskies couldn’t overcome as they split
the series with RIT.
Holy Cross: On Tuesday, Nov. 25, the Crusaders will play at Boston
University. This will be the first ever meeting between these two
programs. The Crusaders are 3-2-2 in their last seven games against
teams from Hockey East, including a 6-4 loss this season at home
versus Providence on Oct. 25. Last year, Holy Cross had a 1-1 tie
at Vermont on Dec. 29, 2007, a 2-2 tie at home with Merrimack on
Dec. 4, 2007 and a 6-4 win at Providence on Oct. 20, 2007. Two
years ago, the Crusaders fell to Northeastern, 7-2, on Dec. 30,
2006 and won at Merrimack, 2-1, on October 24, 2006. In 2005 the
Crusaders earned a 3-2 win at UMass Amherst on Oct. 21. Holy Cross
has an all-time record of 22-76-2 against teams currently in Hockey
East. Holy Cross will then play a home-and-home series against
Sacred Heart on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29-30. Saturday’s
game will be at the Milford Ice Pavilion in Milford, Conn., while
the Crusaders will host Sunday’s game. Sophomore goalie Adam
Roy (Feeding Hills, Mass.) recorded his first collegiate shutout as
he made 17 saves in the 3-0 victory over AIC on Nov. 22. Freshman
Luke Miller (Andover, Mass.) had an assist in the 3-0 win over AIC
on Nov. 22, for his first collegiate point.
Mercyhurst: The Mercyhurst College men¹s hockey team earned
its first sweep of the season with back-to-back victories against
Army this past weekend at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers
downed the Black Knights by the scores of 6-2 and 6-3. The 12 goals
scored were the most in a series since 2005-06 when the Lakers
registered 14 goals in back-to-back victories over American
International. Sophomore Scott Pitt scored four points in the
series with three goals and a helper, while senior Brett Robinson
and sophomore Mike Gurtler each had two goals apiece. Sophomore
Ryan Zapolski earned back-to-back wins with 58 combined saves. He
is currently unbeaten in his past three games (2-0-1). With the
wins, Army is now 1-13-1 playing in Erie and 7-19-0 all-time
against Mercyhurst. The Lakers will now travel to Troy, N.Y. for
the RPI Tournament on Friday, Nov. 28. RPI defeated the Lakers,
5-0, in their last meeting back on Oct. 30, 2004.
Rochester Institute of Technology: Louis Menard picked up the win
on Saturday. He came in relief of Jared DeMichiel and turned all
three shots he faced, earning the victory in a come-from-behind win
for the Tigers. The Tigers snapped an 0-for-10 power play drought
on Saturday, going 3-for-8 with the man advantage. The Tigers
tallied two power play goals in the third period to tie the game at
4-4 and win the game 5-4. Saturday’s win was only the second
win for the Tigers when trailing heading into the third period. RIT
is 2-4-1 this season when trailing after two periods. The 16 shots
fired in the third period was the second-highest total of the
season. RIT fired 19 shots in the versus Army back on November
15.
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers lost a pair of games at Air Force last
weekend. Friday’s 8-1 loss was the most lopsided loss for SHU
since a 9-1 loss to St. Cloud in 2004, and the most lopsided
conference loss since a 10-2 setback to Canisius in 1998, the
program’s first season in Division I. Freshman Matt Gingera
and sophomore Corey Laurysen scored the Pioneer goals. Laurysen has
scored goals in each of the Pioneers last three series. Sacred
Heart has never won in Colorado Springs, going 0-4-2 in six games.
Sacred Heart takes on Holy Cross in a home-and-home series over
Thanksgiving weekend. The teams meet in Milford Saturday and in
Worcester Sunday afternoon.
