Inside College Hockey Player of the Week

INCH Player of the Week: Andrew Olson

Connecticut
So., F, Alexandria, Minn.
His Statistics: 2 GP, 4-2—6, 2 GWG, 2 PPG.

His Impact: Olson, the Huskies’ leading goal scorer last season, is well on his way to eclipsing the 14 goals he scored as a freshman. A 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward, Olson scored four goals, including both game winners, in UConn’s sweep of Army, Atlantic Hockey’s defending regular-season champion, in the first league series of the year for both teams. He also played a major role in the success of the Huskies’ power play, scoring two of the team’s power-play goals and assisting on another.

Through four games - UConn opened the season with losses to Alaska and Alaska Anchorage at the Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage - Olson has scored half of the Huskies’ 12 goals and four of the team’s six power-play markers. The only player in the country with more goals and power-play goals than Olson is an Atlantic Hockey rival, Air Force sophomore forward Jacques Lamoureux (eight goals, five PPGs in six games).

His Runners-Up: Chad Johnson (Alaska), Brock McBride (St. Lawrence), Ryan Stoa (Minnesota), Brad Thiessen (Northeastern)
