Air Force takes on Michigan in NCAA East Regional
2009 NCAA Division I Tournament Field Announced
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 22) — The 2009 NCAA Tournament
field was announced on Sunday morning and the overall number one
seed was awarded to Boston University.
The Terriers won the Hockey East Championship and finished the
season with a 31-6-4 record. The Terriers will be the number one
seed in the Northeast Regional in Manchester, N.H.
The Terriers will face Ohio State (23-14-4), who received an
at-large bid into the tournament. The two teams will face off at
5:30pm ET on Saturday, March 28. The winner of that game will take
on the winner of North Dakota (24-14-4) and New Hampshire
(19-12-5), who will play at 2:00pm ET. New Hampshire is the host of
this regional in Manchester’s Verizon Wireless Arena. The
Northeast Regional Championship will take place at 5:30pm ET on
Sunday, March 29.
The number two overall seed was awarded to the CCHA Champions,
Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish (31-5-3) will head the field in the
Midwest Regional at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Irish will take on the CHA Champions, Bemidji State (18-15-1)
at 7:30 ET on Saturday, March 28. The other half of the Midwest
Regional features Cornell (21-9-4) and Northeastern (25-11-4), who
will play at 4:00 ET. The Midwest Regional Championship will take
place on Sunday, March 29, at 8:00pm ET.
The West Regional, taking place at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis,
Minn., will feature the number three overall seed, Denver
(23-11-5). Denver will face Miami (20-12-5) at 4:30pm CT on Friday,
March 27. The winner of this game will face the winner of Princeton
(22-11-1) and WCHA Champions Minnesota-Duluth (21-12-8), who will
play at 8:00pm CT.
The winners will play for the West Regional Championship at 8:00pm
CT on Saturday, March 28.
Michigan (29-11-0) will be the number one seed in the East
Regional at Bridgeport Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn.
The Wolverines will take on the Atlantic Hockey Champions, Air
Force (27-10-2) at 3:00pm ET on Friday, March 27. Host Yale, the
ECAC Champions with a record of 24-7-2, will take on Vermont
(20-11-5) in the late game at 6:30pm ET.
The East Regional Championship will take place at 5:30pm ET on
Saturday, March 28.
The winners of the East and Northeast Regionals will meet in one
National Semifinal at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., on
Thursday, April 9. The winners of the Midwest and West Regional
will meet in the other one. Game times are 5:30pm ET and 8:00pm
ET.
The National Championship will be on Saturday, April 11 at 7:00pm
ET.
