RIT Announces 2008-09 Award Winners


ROCHESTER, NY - Forward Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, Ontario) garnered two individual honors and one shared honor, as the RIT men's hockey team recently announced its 2008-09 team award winners. In all, eight members of the RIT men¹s hockey organization won awards.

Sarazin won the Dan Barrow's Fan's Choice, Art Thomas Teammate Award and shared the Louis Spiotti Coaches Awards. Sarazin was an All-Atlantic Hockey Association first team selection. He enjoyed a breakout season for the Tigers, leading the team with 19 goals and 42 points in 38 games. He had seven power-play goals, two shorthanded tallies and two  game-winning goals this season. Sarazin had 29 points over his last 17 games (11-18-29) and finished his career with 39 career goals, 51 assists and 90 points in 144 games.


Bobby Raymond (Lucknow, Ontario) and Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario) joined Sarazin as winners of the Louis Spiotti Coaches Award for players who embody RIT Hockey.

Raymond was one of RIT's smoothest skaters and top defensive defensemen, usually lining up against the opposition¹s top forwards. Raymond was an All-Atlantic Hockey Association third-team selection in 2008 and a second team selection in 2009. In 38 games this season, Raymond scored six goals and had nine assists for 15 points and was a plus-10. He never missed a game in his four-year Tiger career and has 13 goals and 29 assists in 144 collegiate games.

Ringwald enjoyed another tremendous season, with 34 points and was tied for second nationally among all defensemen with 31 assists. Ringwald is the catalyst of the RIT power-play that was as high as fifth in the nation.  Under the direction of Ringwald, the power-play scored 31 times in the last 19 games. Ringwald has 10 goals and 78 assists for 88 points in 104 career games. He is RIT's all-time leader in assists and points by a defenseman at the DI level.

The Craig Lauzon award for the top newcomer was awarded to freshman forward Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario). Brenner enjoyed a tremendous rookie season. He was second among all rookies nationally with 35 points and had 14 goals and 21 assists, while playing in all 38 games this season. Brenner was tied for fourth in the nation with six game-winning goals and led RIT with nine power-play tallies. Brenner scored a point in 17 of his last 22 games and had 25 points (8-17-25) during that stretch.

Junior forward Anton Kharin (Twin Lakes, MI) won The Green B. Williams award for academic excellence. Kharin graduated in three years with a degree in marketing and twin minors in accounting and communications. He played in 102 career games as a Tiger tallying 54 career points on 30 goals and 24 assists.

Ritter Arena supervisor Stuart Hughes (Brockport, NY) won the Dr. Albert J. Simone Distinguished Service Award. The award honors a person that made a positive impact on the RIT Hockey program. ³Stu² supervises the day-to-day operations of Ritter Arena from maintaining the ice surface to repairs throughout the rinl. Stu also drives the zamboni on game nights.

RIT finished the 2008-09 season with a 23-13-2 record. The 23 wins by RIT is a school record for wins in a season since joining Division I back in 2005-06.
