Russell Signs with CHL’s Texas Brahmas
WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University hockey player
Casey Russell (Orange, Conn./Boston Jr. Bruins) has signed with the
Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League. Russell played for the
Falcons from 2005-09.
The CHL is a 16-team league with teams primarily located in the
Southwest and Midwest of the United States. The Brahmas compete in
the Southeast Division of the league’s Southern Conference
and won the 2008-09 league championship on May 6 by defeating the
Colorado Eagles four games to one in the finals.
Russell played in 125 games as a defenseman for head coach Ryan
Soderquist and is one of the highest scoring defensemen in program
history with a career scoring line of 9-37-46. This past season as
a senior, Russell was eighth on the team in points with 14, which
was second among the team’s defensemen. He was also
instrumental in Bentley lowering its goals per game allowed average
nearly a half goal from the 2007-08 season.
The Falcons went 19-17-2 last year, which are the second most wins
in school history and the most at the Division I level. They
advanced to the Atlantic Hockey semifinals before losing to the
eventual champions Air Force.
