Sacred Heart Men's Ice Hockey Team Set to Shave Heads
Sunday
Fourth Annual St. Baldrick's Fundraiser for Childhood Cancer
Research
Fairfield, CT (March 5, 2009) -- For the fourth consecutive year
the Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team will be shaving
their heads to raise awareness and funds for the St. Baldrick's
Foundation which supports childhood cancer research. The event is
set for this Sunday, March 8th, from 11am-7pm at The Bear &
Grill in Fairfield.
The team has raised over $45,000 in the previous three years toward
this very worthy cause and we are working toward making a
significant contribution again this year. The men's ice hockey
program is working in cooperation with TeamBrent a team formed by
Southport residents Mike and Dana McCreesh in honor of their son
Brent who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in September of 2004.
TeamBrent was formed to raise awareness and funds to fight all
childhood cancers with a focus on neuroblastoma. Since its
inception in March of 2005, TeamBrent has raised over 2.6 million
dollars to fight childhood cancers, and Brent is cancer-free.
"I realize that we are in difficult economic times," SHU head coach
Shaun Hannah said. "However, cancer does not stop and the public's
efforts and financial support will make a significant difference.
For those who have donated to this cause in the past, I hope you
are able to contribute again this year. For those who have not, I
hope you will join us in the fight to find a cure for childhood
cancer by making a donation."
This year, organizers are hoping to ease the crowds with even more
space, extended hours, and the return of the incredible team of
Total Look Salons stylists. There will be head painting for shavees
as well as children's Entertainment provided by The Little Gym of
Fairfield, United Indoor Soccer and Mickey Kydes. Radio Station
85.9 the Fox will broadcast live from 12-2pm. Live music will be
provided by Vertigo 5-7pm and there will be speeches throughout the
day.
Since its founding in 2000, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has
raised over $51 million with head shavings in 18 countries. Over
the past four years TeamBrent has shaved over 1,000 heads and
raised $1.4 Million for childhood cancers everywhere through its
participation in St Baldrick's. TeamBrent has been the #1 team
internationally for the past 3 years, and has empowered the
community by bringing together children and adults to sit side by
side and get their heads shaved to show solidarity with the
children fighting cancer. For more information on Team Brent go to
