Andrew Favot - R.I.T.

Junior, Forward, King City, Ontario

Favot recorded his third five-point weekend of the season, with three goals and two assists during a weekend split at Sacred Heart. On Friday, he set a career-high with four points (2-2-4) and scored the eventual game-winning goal in a 5-2 win over the Pioneers, breaking their 12-game unbeaten streak. On Saturday, Favot tied the game at 3 with a power-play goal late in the second period. He has 11 points over his last six games (4-7-11) and leads the Tigers with 30 points (9-21-30) in 27 games this season.

Andrew Loewen - Canisius

Junior, Goaltender, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Loewen anchored the Canisius defense between the pipes in a two-game sweep over Connecticut. Loewen posted a goals against average of 1.51 and a save percentage of .945 in earning the two victories. He recorded 20 saves in the opener while yielding just one goal on a 5-on-3 power play. In the finale, Loewen stopped 32 shots to help the Griffs complete the sweep.

Adam Pleskach - American International

Freshman, Forward, Beausejour, Manitoba

Pleskach recorded three points in the Yellow Jacket sweep of Bentley over the weekend with a goal and two assists. He buried a goal 13-second into the second period to give AIC a 5-1 lead in their 6-5 victory on Friday. In Saturday’s 3-2 (OT) win, Pleskach dished out an assist in the second period on the game-tying goal, then handed out an assist on the game-winner in overtime.

Atlantic Hockey Honor Roll

Andrew Volkening - Air Force (Senior, Goaltender, Genoa, Ill.) - Suffered two close losses to 10th-ranked Colorado College on the road and No. 2 Denver at home...In the two games, had a 1.95 goals-against average and a .937 against two of the best teams in the nation...Gave up just four goals, one was a power-play goal and two others came on 2-on-1 rushes.

Ben Meisner - American Int’l (Freshman, Goaltender, Halifax, Nova Scotia) - Meisner play very well in Saturday’s 3-2 (OT) win stopping 35 shots, including 24 in the final two periods of regulation and three in overtime, to claim his fourth victory of the season.

Michael Penny - American Int’l (Sophomore, Forward, Calgary, Alberta) - Penny found the back of the net three times Friday night, leading the Yellow Jackets to a 6-5 victory over Bentley. He netted two of his goals early in the first period, one of which on the power-play, to put AIC out to an early 2-0 lead. Penny buried his third of the night in the second period to complete the natural hat-trick. His hat-trick was the first for AIC since Jereme Tendler did it against Bentley on January 12, 2007.

Eric Sefchik - Army (Senior, Forward, Brooklyn, Ohio) - Sefchik extended his streak of consecutive multiple-point games to four with a five-point weekend to help Army to two points against Holy Cross. Sefchik totaled two goals, including a short-handed tally and posted three assists over the weekend while registered a +3 plus/minus rating. Sefchik scored a short-handed goal and matched his career best with an even strength goal later in a 4-1 win. He handed out three assists during the first game of the series, the third time in his career he has registered three assists. Sefchik is now the team’s point leader with a team-best 22 assists and nine goals and has racked up nine points on four goals and five assists in his last four games.

Preston Shupe - Canisius (Freshman, Forward, Weyburn, Sasketchewan) - Shupe recorded two points in a weekend sweep over Connecticut, scoring a goal in the opener and adding an assist in the finale. On Friday, Shupe sealed the Griffs victory by scoring a goal with just under four minutes left in regulation in a 3-1 win. He then helped give Canisius a 2-0 lead in the finale, intercepting a pass and setting up Vincent Scarsella for a goal. Shupe now has 21 points this season on six goals and 15 assists. He is tied for first among freshmen in Atlantic Hockey with his 21 points and ranks 14th nationally among rookies with 0.75 points per game.

Jason Weeks - Canisius (Senior, Forward, Seattle, Wash.) - Weeks moved atop the Canisius record book and helped the Griffs earn four points during a weekend sweep over Connecticut. In the Griffs’ 5-2 win over the Huskies on Saturday, Weeks scored the game’s first goal, his 50th-career marker. Weeks moved into sole possession of first place in the program’s Division I record book with his goal, passing David Deeves, who recorded 49 goals from 1998 to 2002. Weeks also tallied two assists during the weekend for three points. He registered the primary assist on the game-winning goal in the opener and then added another in the finale for two points.

Rob Linsmayer - Holy Cross (Freshman, Forward, Winnetka, Ill.) - Linsmayer recorded two assists in the series versus Army. On Friday, he assisted on Holy Cross’ first goal of the contest in the 5-3 victory, while in the 4-1 loss on Saturday he had an assist on the Crusaders’ only goal. Linsmayer’s 11 assists lead the team and his 12 points are tied for third.

Luke Miller - Holy Cross (Sophomore, Forward, Andover, Mass.) - Miller scored two goals in the two-game series with Army. In the 5-3 win on Friday, he scored a power play goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period, while on Saturday he netted the Crusaders’ lone goal of the game in the 4-1 loss. For the season, Miller has six goals and two assists for eight points. His six goals are ranked fifth on the team. In 62 career games, he has 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points.

Grant Blakey - Mercyhurst (Freshman, Forward, Canton, Mich.) - Blakey finished the weekend with a goal and an assist as the Lakers dropped both games during their tour of Colorado. Against Denver, Blakey scored the team’s lone goal in a 4-1 setback. The next day he assisted on the game’s first goal, a strike by junior Mike Gurtler with 5:34 elapsed in the first period. Blakey now has six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.

Matt Fennell - Mercyhurst (Junior, Defenseman, Melfort, Sasketchewan) - Fennell had a hand in all three goals in the Lakers’ 5-3 setback at No. 10 Colorado College on Saturday. The senior defenseman tallied two power-play goals and added an assist for three points. After helping out on junior Mike Gurtler’s ice-breaking marker early in the first period, Fennell tallied his first of the game in the second to break up a four-goal run by the Tigers and make the score 4-2. He later added his second goal with 10 seconds remaining in the third period.

Here is the tiebreaker for two or more teams:

1. Points head-to-head...2. Goal differential head-to-head...3. Conference wins...4. Goal differential - conference games...5. Goals allowed - conference games...6. Goals scored - conference games.

If three or more teams are tied and all played the same number of games against one another, you would use the tiebreaker top to bottom as a mini-conference. If three or more team are tied and all played an uneven amount of games, we will use the tiebreaker above, but break the teams up into a mini-mini-conference. If three teams are tied and one team played two games against the other two, while the other two faced each other four times, we will break the teams that played four times and run the tiebreaker to see who would win that series. Then take the team that won that tiebreaker and pit them against the team that they played twice to see who would garner the higher seed. Then you take the final two teams and run the tiebreaker again to see who gains the next highest seed.

Air Force: Air Force held two of the top 10 teams in the country to just two goals in each game...AFA fell to 10th-ranked Colorado College, 2-0, on Friday at the Colorado Springs World Arena...AFA was shutout for the first time since October 2007, 4-0, at Bentley, a span of 106 games...AFA took second-ranked Denver into overtime before losing 2-1...It was Air Force’s first overtime loss of the season. AFA is now 2-1-6 in nine overtime games this season...Jacques Lamoureux’s power play goal in the third period against Denver ended a streak of five periods without a goal...Lamoureux’s goal was AFA’s only one of the weekend...Andrew Volkening had a 1.95 goals and a .937 saves percentage in the two games...Derrick Burnett picked up his 20th assist of the season on Saturday...AFA had a season-low 20 shots on Friday vs. CC...AFA had 46 shots vs. Denver on Saturday, the most Denver has allowed all season and the second most AFA has had all season...AFA is off this week. The next series is at RIT, Feb. 19-20...AFA’s crowd of 2,901 on Saturday marked the fifth consecutive and ninth sellout of the season...The shutout was the 17th in the last 23 regular season games at Cadet Ice Arena...AFA is averaging 2,543 fans in the 2,470 Cadet Ice Arena...AFA’s average crowd is 103.0 of the arena’s capacity, the fourth highest in the nation behind RIT, Notre Dame and St. Cloud State.

American International: The American International College men’s ice hockey team swept the Bentley Falcons over the weekend claiming a 6-5 win on Friday night, and a 3-2 overtime victory in Saturday’s matinee. Sophomore forward Michael Penny scored three times to lead the Yellow Jackets to their 6-5 in the series opener. It was the first hat-trick for AIC since Jereme Tendler did it against Bentley on January 12, 2007. It was also the Yellow Jackets first time putting six goals on the board since February 9, 2008 at Bentley. AIC was outshot 28-24 on the night but held advantages of 13-6 in the first period and 10-9 in the second. Saturday’s 3-2 (OT) win, was the first come-from-behind victory of the season, and was their first overtime win since November 11, 2008. AIC also claimed their first sweep since their home-and-home with Bentley in February 2008. AIC was outshot 37-33 on the night but held a 10-9 advantage in the first period. The Yellow Jackets also went 1-2 on the power-play.

Army: The Black Knights stand in sixth place in the league standings after splitting a series at Holy Cross … Senior captain Eric Sefchik collected five points over the weekend while Marcel Alvarez and Cody Omilusik each had three … Sefchik opened the scoring of Saturday’s win with a short-handed goal and later scored an even strength tally while handing out three assists in Friday’s loss. Sefchik tied his career-best with both of those marks. It marked the third time Sefchik has collected three assists in his career. Sefchik is now the team’s leading scorer with nine goals and a team-best 22 assists. He has at least two points in each of his last four games … Eight players registered points in Saturday’s 4-1 win, including Cody Omilusik who had an empty-net goal and an assist. Omilusik is riding a six-game scoring streak with seven assists and a goal over that span … Marcel Alvarez had a point in each game with a goal and assist on Friday and an assist on Sefchik’s short-handed tally on Friday … Owen Meyer scored twice during Friday’s loss, his 28th career multiple-point game. Meyer now has 60 career goals and is tied for fifth with Dain Prewitt of Bentley among the league’s all-time leading scorers. Meyer also moved up Army’s scoring chart and is now tied with Mike Palone for 35th with 123 career points … Army has scored seven short-handed goals this season … Pat Copeland collected his third assist of the season on Saturday … Freshman Mike Santee returned to the line-up Saturday after missing 14 games and picked up an assist … Kyle Maggard scored his fifth goal on the season during Saturday’s win, his first career game-winning goal. Maggard has three goals in his last four games … Army will return to Tate Rink for a two-game series against league-leading RIT … Four of Army’s final six games are against teams ahead of the Black Knights in the standings.

Bentley: Bentley suffered a pair of one goal defeats over the weekend to American International. In the first game on Friday, the Falcons’ rally from 6-1 down in the second period came up just short. After AIC’s Michael Penny scored his third goal of the game at 4:07 of the second period, Bentley’s Jamie Nudy cut the deficit to 6-2 at 9:00. The Falcons scored three times in the third period, with freshman Jordy Trottier, sophomore Herbie Kent and senior Marc Menzione scoring. Menzione’s goal came with 2:34 to play, but Bentley couldn’t find the tying goal. Bentley dropped Saturday’s game 3-2 in overtime, its second overtime loss of the season. It was the Falcons’ first overtime game since Nov. 28 against Lake Superior State, and it dropped their record to 0-2-3 in overtime games. Menzione’s goal on Friday was the 100th point of his career and 43rd career goal. He’s the 16th player in school history to reach the 100-point milestone and the fourth to do it solely at the Division I level. In the program’s Division I history, Menzione is fourth in points, third in goals and fourth in assists. After finishing its six-game road trip, Bentley will play its first home game in four weeks when they host Holy Cross on Friday in the first game of a home-and-home series. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

Canisius: Canisius swept a pair of games at Connecticut during the weekend, winning the opener, 3-1, and the finale, 5-2. Canisius improves to 11-8-3 in Atlantic Hockey play and moves to within one point of fourth place in the league standings and two points within third place. Senior Jason Weeks became the program’s Division I all-time leading scorer in Saturday’s game, netting his 50th career goal. Weeks passed the previous standard of 49, set by David Deeves from 1998 to 2002. Weeks has also added 56 career assists for 106 points, the fourth-most in school history. Junior Cory Conacher once again led the Griffs offense during the weekend, posting four points on a goal and three assists. The junior now leads the country with 42 points this season and with 1.62 points per game. Conacher, who registered his 13th and 14th multi-point games of the season, is just the second Griff in the program’s Division I history to record 40 points in a single. Chris Duggan holds the school record with 48 points during the 1998-99 season. Conacher is also just six points shy of becoming the first Canisius junior to record his 100th career point. Senior Josh Heidinger, who was named a finalist for the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge, added two helpers during the weekend and now has 114 career points. Heidinger is just one point shy of second in school history (Duggan) and just five tallies shy of the school record (Deeves). Senior goaltender Andrew Loewen anchored the Canisius defense, posting a goals against average of 1.51 and a save percentage of .945 during the two-game sweep. Canisius and Mercyhurst will play in a key home-and-home series this weekend with just one points separating the two rivals in the league standings. Earlier in the season, the Griffs earned their first-ever sweep over the Lakers in the series history.

Connecticut: Last weekend, the Huskies hosted Canisius on February 5 and 6. In Friday night’s matchup, Canisus was the first team to get on the board when they capitalized on a power play opportunity in the first. In the second, the Griffs added to their total extending their lead to two goals. In the third, however, the Huskies cut the lead in half when they capitalized on a five-on-three opportunity to notch their lone goal of the night. Canisius retook a two goal lead later in the period to finish the game with a 3-1 victory. On Saturday, Canisius scored two goals in the first period and another two in the second, taking a 4-0 lead before the Huskies were able to get on the board in the third period. UConn scored a couple of quick goals at 8:22 and 10:48 to cut the lead in half, but with the goalie pulled, Canisius tacked on an empty net goal to solidify the victory. Nine different Huskies recorded a point on the 0-2 weekend.

Holy Cross: The Crusaders return to action when they conclude their two-game regular season series with Atlantic Hockey opponent Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Hart Center at 7:00 p.m. Earlier this season on Nov. 24, Holy Cross defeated the Huskies by a 5-0 score in Worcester. On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Holy Cross men’s hockey program will host “Pink The Rink” at the HartCenter during its game versus Bentley at 7:00 p.m. The team will be wearing a special edition pink jersey to show its support for breast cancer awareness. The jerseys will be auctioned off throughout the game with all proceeds going to the Levine Cancer Center in Worcester. Also a limited amount of special edition “Pink The Rink” t-shirts will be available for purchase. There will be 28 game jerseys available to bid on during the silent auction with a minimum bid of $200.00 for each jersey. The auction will start at 6:00 p.m. David Joy (Class of 1974) generously donated the jerseys so all of the proceeds from the auction of the jerseys will go to the Levine Cancer Center. A ceremonial puck drop will feature Holy Cross professors and breast cancer survivors Kathy Kiel (Economics) and Helen Freear-Papio (Modern Languages and Literature). The jersey numbers that will be available in the auction are #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #11, #12, #14, #15, #17, #18, #19, #20, #21, #22, #24, #26, #27, #28, #29, #30, #32, #33, #35 and #44. Holy Cross, who has only averaged 2.1 goals scored per game this season, has scored 15 goals over the last four contests for a 3.8 goals per game average. The Crusaders, who have not played Bentley yet this season, will meet the Falcons four of the last six games of the regular season. The Crusaders are 14-61 (.230) over the last 14 games while on the power play. The Crusaders are 2-5-5 (.375) at home so far this season. Last season Holy Cross went 7-8-2 (.471) at the Hart Center. Holy Cross has a 296-188-33 (.604) all-time record at the Hart Center since it started playing there in 1975-1976. The Crusaders have already played in seven overtime games this season with a 0-2-5 (.357) record in those games. The five ties are tied for the third most ties in a season at the school as the record is seven set in the 2007-2008 season. The most overtime games played in a single-season at Holy Cross was last season when the Crusaders played 10 and went 2-3-5 (.450) in those games. Since the 2006-2007 season and 136 total games, the Crusaders have played 33 overtime contests with a 2-9-22 (.394) record as .243 percent of their games have gone to overtime. The Crusaders are 5-9-0 (.357) on its opponent’s home ice this season. Last season, HC compiled a 5-12-3 record in away games. Sophomore Luke Miller scored a goal in each game versus Army. For the season, he has six goals and two assists for eight points. His six goals are ranked fifth on the team. Junior Jordan Cyr leads the team with 17 points, while he is tied for the team-lead with eight goals and is second with nine assists. Freshman Rob Linsmayer, who had two assists in the series with Army, leads the team with 11 assists. Also his 12 points are tied for third. Junior Everett Sheen and senior Brodie Sheahan are tied for the team-lead with eight goals. Sheen is also second in points with 16 and Sheahan is tied for third with 12 points. Freshman goalie Thomas Tysowsky’s 629 saves this season rank fifth on the Holy Cross Division I single-season list. He has a .913 save percentage and a 2.40 goals against average. Holy Cross will host the 2010 NCAA Men’s Hockey Division I Northeast Regional. The dates are Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28 at the DCUCenter in Worcester. The semifinals will be at 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on March. 27, while the finals will be at 5:30 p.m. on March 28. All three games will be on ESPNU. HC held the event for the first time in 2008.

Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst concluded its non-conference slate with losses to No. 2 Denver, 4-1, and No. 10 Colorado College, 5-3…The Lakers now stand at 12-16-2 overall entering into this weekend’s home-and-home series with Canisius…Freshman Grant Blakey recorded two points on the weekend, including his sixth goal of the season against second-ranked Denver…Senior Matt Fennell recorded a season-high three points against No. 10 Colorado College, scoring two power-play goals and adding an assist…Junior Ryan Zapolski went 0-1-0 on the weekend, suffering his lone loss against No. 2 Denver. He made 44 saves against the Pioneers and 20 with no goals allowed in relief of sophomore Max Strang against CC…The Lakers are now 0-3 against Denver and 0-2 against Colorado College…Mercyhurst returns to AHA play this weekend against Canisius…The Golden Griffins took two from MC earlier this season, prevailing 6-4 in Erie before posting a 4-3 victory in Buffalo…Mercyhurst leads the all-time series, 33-18-9.

Rochester Institute of Technology: RIT holds a three-point lead in the Atlantic Hockey Standings after a win and a loss last weekend on the road at Sacred Heart. On Friday, the Tigers snapped Sacred Heart’s 12-game unbeaten streak by defeating the Pioneers, 5-2. It was exactly a year to the day when Sacred Heart came to RIT and snapped the Tigers 11-game winning streak. In Friday’s win, Andrew Favot recorded a career-best four points on two goals and two assists. Tyler Brenner scored twice and added an assist, while Cameron Burt added three helpers. On Saturday, four different Tigers scored. Scott Knowles and Chris Haltigin each had a goal and an assist, while Burt dished out two helpers. Burt has eight points (2-6-8) over his last three games. Favot has 11 points (4-7-11) over his last six games, while Brenner has six goals and nine points during the same time frame. The Tigers have at least four goals in each of their last games (26 goals during that span). Favot has at least 30 points for the second straight season. RIT has four players with at least 20 points, and 13 with at least 10 points this season. The Tigers were 4-for-14 on the power-play this weekend. RIT leads Atlantic Hockey and is seventh defensively in all of Division I, allowing just 2.36 goals per game. RIT senior defenseman Dan Ringwald is one of 10 finalists for the 2009-10 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in the hockey division. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition. RIT senior goaltender Jared DeMichiek is the lone Tiger and one of three netminders eligible to compete for the Eastern team at the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge in April. RIT is 2-0 against Army this season, having defeated the Pioneers 6-1 on Nov. 6 and 2-1 on Nov. 7. The Tigers lead the all-time series between the two schools, 5-2-3. RIT is 2-1-1 all-time at Army.

Sacred Heart: The Pioneers finished the weekend with a series split at home against the RIT Tigers…The Tigers snapped SHU’s nation leading 12 game unbeaten streak Friday night with a 5-2 decision…Matt Gingera (Winnipeg, MB) and Erik Boisvert (Drummondville, QC) lit the lamp for Sacred Heart but the Pioneers struggled going 1-for-11 on the power play…The difference in the series opener would be on special teams as RIT earned three goals of their own with the man advantage…Friday night the Pioneers took season highs in both penalties (13) and penalty minutes (34)…Sacred Heart would rebound in the series finale as they avoided a season sweep at the hands of RIT with a 5-4 victory…Freshman goaltender and reigning HCA National Rookie of the Month Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) saved his best saves of the weekend for last as he made several spectacular saves down the stretch to preserve the one goal win for Sacred Heart…The Pioneers now sit in third place in the Atlantic Hockey standings as they take on AIC this weekend in a home and home series.
