Jared DeMichiel - RIT

DeMichiel was named the NCAA East Region Most Outstanding Player after stopping 63-of-66 shots as RIT became the first Atlantic Hockey Association squad to ever advance to the NCAA Frozen Four.  On Friday, DeMichiel led the fourth-seeded Tigers to 2-1 win over top-seeded Denver, tying his career-high with 39 saves, many of which spectacular.  On Saturday, DeMichiel stopped 24-of-26 shots in leading RIT to a 6-2 win over third-seeded New Hampshire.  DeMichiel leads the nation with 27 wins, and is in the top-five nationally with a 1.98 goals against average, and 924 save percentage.

Atlantic Hockey Team Notes

Rochester Institute of Technology:  The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament for the first time since moving to Division I in 2005 after two wins in the East Regional on Friday and Saturday.  The Tigers upset top-seed and No. 2 ranked Denver, 2-1 on Friday, and defeated third-seed, No. 12 New Hampshire, 6-2 on Saturday. The Tigers will travel to Detroit, Mich. For the Frozen Four and face West Region Champion Wisconsin (27-10-4) at 5 p.m. Thursday at Ford Field.  The game will be aired on ESPN2 and ESPN360, with Gary Thorne and Barry Melrose bringing you the action.  Wisconsin, who plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) is the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and boasts 11 NHL draft picks.  Boston College (27-10-3) will face Miami (29-7-7) in the second Frozen Four semifinal on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The two winners will face-off in the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four Championship on Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m.  RIT is the only non-number one regional seed in the Frozen Four.  Miami is the top-ranked team in Division I, while Wisconsin is No. 3, and Boston College, No. 4.  On Friday, RIT upended No. 2 Denver, 2-1 behind a career-best tying 39 saves from NCAA East Region Most Outstanding Player Jared DeMichiel.  Chris Tanev and Cameron Burt scored goals for RIT.  Denver was the highest-ranked team that RIT has defeated in five years of Division I.  On Saturday, RIT exploded for three goals in 1:34 to snap a 1-1 second period tie and defeat New Hampshire, 6-2. Tyler Brenner scored twice, while Andrew Favot dished out three assists.  DeMichiel, Brenner, Cameron Burt, Dan Ringwald, and Chris Haltigin were named to the East Regional All-Tournament Team. DeMichiel leads all of Division I with 27 wins.  He will finish the season as the national leader in wins.  He is fourth nationally with a 1.98 goals against average, eighth with a .924 save percentage and fifth in winning percentage (.743).  DeMichiel also set a Division I team record (Louis Menard ¹09) with his 41st career win. Cameron Burt now leads the team with 47 points (16-31-47) and has 29 points (7-22-29) over his last 15 games. He now has 17 (7-10-17) in 10 postseason games.  Andrew Favot is right behind with 45 points (13-32-45). The 28 wins are a school record and are the second most in Division I behind Miami (Ohio), the No. 1 team in the country.  RIT is riding a 12-game winning streak (longest current streak in Division I).  They have outscored foes 53-16 during that span. The 16 goals allowed are the fewest over a 12-game stretch in team history. Freshman defenseman Chris Tanev is among the national leaders with a plus-35 rating on the season.  Ringwald is third in the nation in scoring among defensemen with 36 points and is sixth with 0.90 points per game. RIT has three defensemen (Ringwald ­ 11, Haltigin ­ 11, Chris Tanev ­ 10) Four defensemen (Ringwald ­ 36, Tanev ­ 27, Haltigin ­ 24, and Alan Mazur - 23) have at least 20 points.  Mazur needs just one point for 100 in his career.  RIT¹s defense is third nationally, allowing just 2.05 goals per game. RIT¹s offense is fifth in the nation, averaging 3.60 goals per game.  The 1.55 goal differential per game is second nationally.  RIT has excellent scoring balance, with seven players scoring at least 10 goals, and 11 players with at least 7 goals. RIT has 17 players with at least 10 points and nine with 10 points. The Tigers are 27-6-1 over their last 34 games after starting the regular season 0-5.  Since Jan. 8, RIT is 18-3-0.  RIT has 91 goals (4.33 per game) during that span.  The Tigers have scored a power-play in goal in 14 straight games. The Tigers are ranked in the top-20 of the USCHO.com Division I poll for the first time in program history.  RIT is ranked 20th in the final Division I poll of the season, with 117 votes. RIT had its streak with a least one power-goal snapped at 15 games on Saturday.  RIT is sixth nationally in power-play percentage (21.5 percent), and 13th in penalty killing (84.8 percent).
