Canisius: Canisius lost a pair of games at Lake Superior State, 5-4 and 3-0. The Griffs are now 1-3-0 during the 2009-10 campaign. In Friday’s 5-4 defeat, junior Cory Conacher led a Canisius charge that nearly led to the team rallying from an early 3-0 deficit. Conacher scored three-consecutive goals to tie the game at three before Lake Superior State held on for the victory. The hat trick was the first of Conacher’s career and the ninth in the program’s Division I history. It was also the second natural hat trick for the Griffs since moving to Division I. Senior Ryan Klusendorf scored the other goal for the Griffs, marking the first time in his career that he netted goals in back-to-back games. Canisius opens Atlantic Hockey play next weekend with a pair of home games against Holy Cross. The two teams met twice last year in Worcester, Mass., with the Crusaders taking 3-of-4 points in the series.

Connecticut: The Huskies went 0-2-0 on the weekend dropping two non-conference games to CCHA opponent Ferris State. After the two games, Ferris State improved their series record with the Huskies to 6-0-0. UConn battled in the first game. Sophomore Daniel Naurato recorded the first goal of the game giving the Huskies a 1-0 advantage. He was helped out by his linemates freshmen Jim Gallagher and Sean Ambrosie on the goal who each recorded the first points of their collegiate career. Ferris State answered in the second period notching two unanswered goals for the lead and the ultimate game one victory. On Saturday, Ferris State got out to a 3-0 lead before the Huskies were able to get on the board. Ambrosie tallied the first goal of his career with some help from junior Jeff Sapieha. But that was all the Huskies would manage as Ferris State rattled off another three goals to end with a 6-1 victory.

Holy Cross: The Crusaders start their Atlantic Hockey season with two games on the road at the Buffalo State Sports Arena versus Canisius on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25, at 4:00 p.m. Holy Cross leads the all-time series 24-11-8. Rochester Institute of Technology: The Tigers continued its house of horrors traveling up to the North Country, losing at St. Lawrence, 3-1 and Clarkson, 5-3. Interestingly enough, RIT out-shot both teams by a wide margin, 43-20 on Friday and 45-29 on Saturday. The 88 shots in a weekend are the most since the Tigers fired 96 shots against Mercyhurst on Nov. 16-17, 2007. RIT is now 0-5 all-time at St. Lawrence’s Appleton Arena, and 1-7 at Clarkson. RIT Head Coach Wayne Wilson remains stuck on 188 career wins (188-94-24). He needs one win to become the all-time leader in coaching wins at RIT, as he is tied with Eric Hoffberg. RIT has allowed two shorthanded goals in three games this season. They allowed just three total in 38 games last season. RIT scored its first power-play goal of the season in its 12th chance on Saturday. They have allowed more shorthanded goals (2), than power-play goals scored (1). Freshman defenseman Chris Tanev scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday. Classmate Adam Hartley scored his first goal on Friday. Sophomore defenseman Chris Haltigin has a point in all three games. RIT has lost five straight games to ECAC opponents. This weekend, the Tigers open up Atlantic Hockey Association play against three-time defending champion Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. The games on Friday and Saturday get underway at 9:05 p.m. Like RIT, Air Force will also enter the weekend winless (0-4). RIT has never been swept in an AHA weekend series. RIT is 55-21-8 all-time in AHA play. Last season, RIT and Air Force shared the AHA regular season crown (20-6-2) and split the season series, 2-2-0, each going 1-1 on home ice. The all-time series between the two schools is tied a 10-10-2. Since 2005, the two teams have met 17 times, with Air Force holding a 8-7-2 edge during that time.
