Well folks welcome back to the chronicle. It has been awhile since
the last edition and a lot has happened since then. The Canisius
hockey team has played a handful of games since and the team has
been keeping pretty well over the winter break.
While most students are just getting back to campus, the Ice Griffs
– along with a few other sports teams – have been here
for most of the break. We got a week off, and the rest of the break
we have been practicing, working out and playing games –
pretty much the same schedule we are accustom to, except there was
no classes.
It frees up a lot of time for the boys to hang out. There have been
many movies watched, video games played and believe it or not, a
few of the boys were reading books for pleasure. Not many people
know this but Vinnie Scarsella is a huge Dan Brown fan. Believe me,
most of the boys did not believe it until we witnessed it on the
bus – Vinnie reading his little heart out, while eating the
biggest bag of M&M’s I have ever seen.
Speaking of road trips, the Griffs have played six games since we
last talked. We picked up a big win against Colgate, a tough
exhibition loss to a Canadian University team from Guelph at the
Amherst Center. Then we hit the road to resume league play. We came
out of Bentley with a hard-fought split and finally, this past
weekend we took 3-of-4 points from a hard-working club in Army.
All in all, not a bad start to the second half of the year for the
Griffs. This weekend we hit the road to take on a tough team from
Sacred Heart. The Pioneers are one of the hottest teams in the
league, so we are in for a tough test this weekend in
Connecticut.
Speaking of challenges, school starts up again this week and the
boys are definitely easing into it since we are missing a few
classes due to team travel. So, we are not getting thrown straight
back into it. After a month off, some of the boys, surprisingly
enough, are looking forward to starting class again because it has
been a long break and we are ready to get the final push for the
playoffs started. Well it is nice to be back, and remember –
in case you forgot – keep your stick on the ice.
