The Golden Griffins are coming off a weekend spit with the Bentley
Falcons. On Friday night, we lost in a close one, while on Saturday
night, our offense exploded for nine goals, giving us a hard fought
split on the weekend and keeping us in the top half of the
standings in Atlantic Hockey. Upcoming for the Ice Griffs is a week
off, as we prepare for a game in a week’s time next Tuesday,
Dec. 15.
This week is a slow one for most student-athletes since it is exam
week here at the College. The hockey team has only optional
practices and workouts until Saturday. This week is filled with
hours of studying since most of us have five exams spread over the
course of the week, along with some papers and final projects or
presentations in other classes.
For some of the guys on the team, they have a good schedule and
just a couple of exams. These guys are lucky because they can use
this week to relax and recharge the batteries before our final two
games of 2009. Some simply just like to forget about school, since
we have about a month off until the start of the spring
semester.
Since we have a lot of extra time on our hands this week, some of
the guys have time to catch a Sabres game during their home stand
this week. Most of the boys, however, are heading out to the local
malls and stores to get an early start on Christmas shopping,
especially for us Canadians who try and take advantage of the
cheaper prices down here. Also, for guys like me who come from
small towns, we have to get our shopping done before going home,
unless we want all of our gifts to be from the local Canadian Tire
or Shopper’s Drug Mart. I’m sure a lot of the dads out
there would be fine with that, but the moms and sisters out there
will appreciate the effort some of the boys are putting into these
little shopping excursions we have been taking.
Well that’s pretty much it for the Ice Griffs this week
– just studying, practice and working out when we have the
time between exams. Also, one final and very important message
directed towards all the teachers out there who may be reading
this. Remember, it is the holidays – a time of giving –
so keep that in mind when dishing out our final grades. Until next
time, keep your stick on the ice.
