Well folks it has been awhile since the last chronicle. This is due
to the fact that we have been busy with exams, and for the past ten
days there has been little action in the Griffin hockey program, in
terms of games played.
We played last Tuesday against the Robert Morris Colonials. It was
a hard fought 5-5 tie and the offense did not miss a beat with our
added rest over the past couple of weeks. We put up five goals,
which is usually enough to win, but a few penalties made the game
closer than it needed to be.
A tie in non-conference play is ok, and we will be looking for a
win in our last non-conference game of the year, which is against a
very strong opponent from Colgate. The Raiders are a very skilled
team and it should be a great game this Sunday at home. The Raiders
will make the trip from Hamilton N.Y., the hometown of former Iron
Griff Scott Follett. This will be the last game of 2009 for the Ice
Griffs, and hopefully we can head into 2010 with a win.
It has been a relaxing time for the Griffin hockey team since final
exams concluded over a week ago. All of you readers out there will
be happy to know that all of the boys passed. As for the grades,
you parents out there will have to ask their son if they have not
shared that information with you yet.
It has been pretty quite around school – it is like a ghost
town with only staff and a hand full of student-athletes hanging
around. It is a great time of year – Christmas is just around
the corner and it gives the team a chance to just hang out and
spend time with each other. There has been hours spent on video
games, movies, TV and shopping over the last week or so. Of course
all of these activities are done at the end of the day after
work-outs and practices are completed.
All of this time shopping forced us to have a Secret Santa gift
exchange last week, and surprisingly most of the gifts can be
shared with our avid readers. Some of the more notable gifts
included, a new walker for the old man yours truly, an autograph
book for Cory Conachar’s new found fame, a box set of DVDs of
Canada’s Next Top Model for Torrey Lindsay, a new
instructional golf DVD for Scott Moser and the final gift that
should be mentioned is Pete MacDougall’s. He received a copy
of his favorite movie: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
To be honest, for most of the boys it has been hard to hide the
excitement of going home for Christmas. We get to go home for about
a week before returning to Buffalo at the end of the month. There
is just one more task before leaving on Sunday, and that is an
important game versus Colgate. So on behalf of the Golden Griffin
Hockey team I would like to wish everyone out there a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year, and until the next edition of the
chronicle, keep your stick on the ice.
