Canisius College senior defender Carl Hudson has signed a contract with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

Hudson earned Atlantic Hockey second-team honors as a senior after being named to the third team in 2008-09. The senior totaled 34 points, 14 goals and 20 assists this season, all school records for a Canisius defender. He currently is tied for second in the country among defenders at 0.97 points per game and is first nationally among defenders with 0.40 goals per game. Hudson also ranks sixth among all players in the country with 11 power-play goals this season.

“This is a great opportunity for Carl, who capped off his four-year career with a very productive senior season,” Canisius coach Dave Smith said. “As a program, we’re excited for Carl and his chance to play professionally.”

During his career, Hudson totaled 90 points, 44 goals and 46 assists, all school records among defenders. He also holds the Atlantic Hockey record among defenders with his 44 career goals. In addition, Hudson owns the program's records with 31 career power-play goals and nine career game-winning scores.

Rochester plays at home on Friday and Sunday, in the Blue Cross Arena. The Americans host Binghamton at 7:05 pm on Friday, and host Toronto at 3 p.m. on Sunday, while playing at Toronto on Saturday.
