Prewitt Signs Contract with ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays
WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University hockey player Dain
Prewitt has signed with the South Carolina Stingrays of the East
Coast Hockey League, the team announced on Wednesday.
The ECHL is a 20-team league with franchises spread out across the
United States and Canada. Each ECHL team has an affiliate in both
the American Hockey League and the National Hockey League. South
Carolina is affiliated with the Hershey Bears in the AHL and the
Washington Capitals in the NHL.
The Stingrays compete in the South Division of the league’s
American Conference. They won the 2008-09 ECHL championship after
defeating the Alaska Aces four games to three in the Kelly Cup
finals.
Prewitt wrapped up a sparkling four-year career at Bentley in March
by leading the Falcons to the Atlantic Hockey semifinals. He
finished as the program’s fourth all-time leading scorer with
126 points (first since Bentley began competing at Division I). His
60 goals are fifth all-time (second at Division I), and he also
shares the school records for most game-winning goals with nine and
most games played with 145.
As a senior, Prewitt was the team’s leading scorer for the
second straight year with a line of 21-21-42 and was named second
team All-Atlantic Hockey. He helped Bentley record the second most
wins in program history with 19, which is the most in the
team’s Division I history.
Prewitt is the second player from the class of 2009 to sign with a
professional team, joining Casey Russell who signed with the Texas
Brahmas of the Central Hockey League in June.
