Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month

 

Bryan Haczyk - Niagara

Senior, Forward, Nutley, N.J.

Scored 12 goals, three assists and 15 points in January…Extended his point streak in January to a career and program best 21 games before having it snapped on Jan. 29…Scored first-career hat-trick against Holy Cross in a 5-2 win…Had five multiple point games in January, including a trio of three-point games…Netted three-straight games with two goals, including both AIC games and the first game of the Sacred Heart series…Named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week twice (Jan. 10 & Jan. 17)…Named USCHO.com Third Star of the Week (Jan. 12)…Scored 12 of his 22 goals on the season in January…As of January 30th, he was tied for the nation’s lead in goals per game (.85) and goals (22) with teammate Paul Zanette…As of January 30th, was seventh in the nation in points per game (1.42)…Just 13 points shy of joining the Niagara 100-point club…Has set new career-highs in goals, assist and points due to his January output…Averaged 1.50 goals per game and 1.88 points per game in January…Named a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award.

Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Month

 

Shane Madolora - RIT

Sophomore, Goaltender, Salinas, Calif.

Madolora went 3-0-4 in January, all against AHA foes to give the Tigers a four-point lead in the conference standings.  He opened the month by stopping 38 shots in a 1-1 tie at Army.  The next night, Madolora made a career-high 46 saves in a 5-2 win. Madolora made 26 saves in a 4-1 win over Bentley on Jan. 14.  He picked up his second shutout of the season, stopping all 22 shots in a 4-0 win over Holy Cross on Jan. 21.  The following night, he made 37 saves, including three amazing stops in the final minute of regulation to preserve a 3-3 tie.  He ended the month by stopping 44 shots in a 3-3 tie against Mercyhurst.  Madolora recorded a 1.78 goals against average and .949 save percentage in January.  Overall, Madolora is the only goaltender in Division I not to have lost this season.  He is riding a 16-game unbeaten streak (11-0-5) and is second nationally with a .936 save percentage and sixth with a 1.97 goals against average.

Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month

 

Taylor Holstrom - Mercyhurst

Freshman, Forward, Yorba Linda, Calif.

Holstrom tied for the team-lead in scoring during the month of January with 11 points. He scored three goals and dished out eight assists, averaging a nation-best 1.57 points per game by a rookie in the first month of the year. After going pointless in the first game of the month, Holstrom put together a six-game pointstreak, highlighted by a four-point outing at Connecticut and back-to-back two-assist performances against Holy Cross and Bentley, both wins by the Lakers. He currently has eight goals and 13 assists on the season.
