PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Former Mercyhurst College defenseman Cullen
Eddy is participating at the Philadelphia Flyers Preseason Training
Camp, as the Flyers are trying to finalize their roster for the
upcoming 2011-12 season. Eddy is currently on the roster for the
Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack
Phantoms.
The Flyers will be in action tonight for a preseason matchup with
the Toronto Maple Leafs. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the
Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Flyers shutout the Leafs
last night, 4-0 in Toronto in the preseason opener.
Philadelphia will then play a home-and-home with the Detroit Red
Wings on Thursday and Friday, will host the New York Rangers on
Sunday, and then will play a home-and-home with the New Jersey
Devils next Thursday (9/29) and Saturday (10/1) before the regular
season opener in Boston against the Bruins on October 6.
Eddy is one of 55 players participating in the Flyers' preseason
training camp as the roster needs to be trimmed down in time for
the start of the regular season. 15 prospects have already been
released from camp for the purpose of returning them to the junior
teams.
A native of Hidden Valley, Pa., Eddy played his last season with
Mercyhurst during the 2009-10 season. The four-year defenseman for
the Lakers finished his career with 49 points (9 goals, 40 assists)
in 144 career games played. He had a career-high 16 points as a
freshman during the 2006-07 season (5 goals, 11 assists) and was
named to the Atlantic Hockey Association's All-Rookie Team that
season.
After graduation, Eddy played seven regular season games, and then
eight more in the playoffs, for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the East
Coast Hockey League. Last season, Eddy started with the Greenville
Road Warriors in the ECHL, scoring a goal and three assists in 16
games, before ending up with Adirondack for the remainder of the
year. In 47 AHL games for the Phantoms, Eddy had three goals and
seven assists.
