ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst College forward Daniel O’Donoghue is participating at the New York Islanders 2011 Prospect Mini-Camp, which is taking place this week (July 11 through July 16), culminating with a blue/white prospect game on Saturday, July 16 at the Nassau Coliseum beginning at 7:00pm.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound native of Port Jefferson Station, NY, is coming off a rookie campaign at Mercyhurst in which he scored 10 goals and added 10 assists for 20 points in 37 games. His 10 goals led all Laker rookies and placed him in a tie for fifth overall on the team, and his 20 points placed him second among newcomers and 10th overall.

O’Donoghue scored his first collegiate goal on November 5 in a 6-2 victory at Air Force – head coach Rick Gotkin’s 400th career win. He finished that game with two goals and an assist, the first multi-point game of his career, and tied for his single-season high (had three assists at Bentley on January 21).

Prior to joining the Lakers, O’Donoghue played in 39 games for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League during the 2009-10 campaign. He registered six goals and two assists during his stint with Des Moines. O’Donoghue also played for the New York Bobcats of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League during the 2008-09 season. He had 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 39 games that year and was named the Most Valuable Player of the AJHL All-Star Game that season.

The Lakers will start the 2011-12 season with an exhibition tilt against York University on Sunday, October 2 beginning at 7:05pm at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
