NORTHFORD, Conn. --- Senior goalie Justin Eddy (Apple Valley, Minn.) made 27 saves and sophomore Aaron Ludwig (Lampman, Sask.) tallied the game-winner at 17:39 of the second period as Quinnipiac University knocked off Bentley College, 2-1, in Atlantic Hockey action Friday night.
The win improved Quinnipiac to 10-6-5 in conference games and 13-13-5 overall, while Bentley lost its second-straight to fall to 7-17-4 overall and 5-12-4 in league games, despite taking the season series from the Bobcats 2-1.
Quinnipiac posted a one-goal lead after the first period, courtesy of junior Rob Hammel's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) first goal of the season at 5:44. Hammel gathered the puck in the slot and sent a wrist shot stick side on Bentley goaltender Geordan Murphy (Matawan, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) which found the back of the net.
The two teams exchanged scores in the second period, with Bentley striking first at 5:22 and Quinnipiac returning the favor just before the end of the frame to take a 2-1 lead into the final 20 minutes.
Junior Troy Wiebler (Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) was credited with the Falcons' goal in the second, his third in as many games and his fifth on the season. Sophomore Jake Plattner (Millersville, Md./Severna Park HS) initiated the play, as he skated through center ice, splitting two Bobcat defenders and backhanded a pass to a streaking Wiebler, who snapped a wrist shot by Eddy.
The Bobcats answered with a power play tally at 17:39, when junior Jack Devaney (Larchmont, N.Y.) ripped a shot form just above the circle that was saved by Murphy, but ended up on the stick of Ludwig who buried his fifth goal on the year.
The two teams combined for 191 penalty minutes, including a combined six disqualifications for fighting in a third period melee.
Bentley will host Mercyhurst College at 4:00 Saturday at the John A. Ryan Arena in Watertown.
