Black Knights Unbeaten Streak Halted at Four

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Brad Roberts registered at least 40 saves for the second night in a row, but it was not enough to stop Air Force as the Falcons soared to a 3-0 win over Army in front of a sold out Tate Rink crowd of 2,720 Saturday night.

Roberts' 41-save performance was a season high for the sophomore netminder. However, Air Force freshman Peter Foster recorded his first career shutout in goal to lead the Falcons (9-13-2). Army falls to 8-8-3 and sees its four-game unbeaten streak come to an end.

Air Force's win ends Army's three-game winning streak against its service-academy rival. The Black Knights have now won three of the last four meetings with the Falcons.

Sophomore defenseman Brooks Turnquist scored twice for Air Force, putting the visitors on top 2-0. He tallied with three minutes to go in the second period and again just over three minutes into the third. Senior captain Shane Saum registered a short-handed marker at the 12:55 mark of the period to close out the scoring.

Army's senior class closes the book on the Air Force rivalry with an even 4-4 record in their careers. The Class of 2004 is the first to finish with a .500 record against the Falcons since the Class of 1997 posted an identical 4-4 mark.

The Black Knights return to action Friday, Jan. 23 when they host Quinnipiac in an Atlantic Hockey matchup at Tate Rink. Faceoff is 7 p.m.
