(Ithaca, NY) Sophomore forward Scott Reynolds scored his sixth goal of the season with six seconds left in regulation as Mercyhurst skated to a 3-3 tie at #13 Cornell Saturday night, November 29. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The Lakers improved to 5-4-1, while the Big Red dropped to 3-2-4.

After a scoreless first period, Cornell got on the board first when Jon Gleed scored his first goal of the season at 1:22 of the second period. The Lakers tied the game at one apiece later in the period when junior defenseman TJ Kemp scored his first goal of the season at 17:02. The power play goal was assisted by junior forward Rich Hansen and senior forward Adam Tackaberry. The Lakers took a 2-1 lead when freshman Jamie Hunt scored just 1:49 into the third period but Cornell tied the game again when Byron Bitz beat sophomore goalie Andy Franck. The Big Red took the lead later in the period when Cam Abbott lit the lamp at the 12:14 mark. Following a Mercyhurst timeout with under a minute left, the Lakers pulled Franck, setting the stage for Reynolds’ heroics.

The Big Red outshot the Lakers 47-20, including a 5-2 advantage in the extra period. The Lakers were 1-4 on the power play, while Cornell was 0-4. Franck made 44 saves, while freshman David McKee made 17 saves.

The Lakers will continue their road trip next weekend as they travel to conference foes Quinnipiac on Friday, December 5 at 7:00pm and AIC Saturday, December 6, at 7:00pm.
