MILFORD, CT (January 16, 2004) - The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team tied Canisius 2-2 on Friday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Marc-Andre Fournier scored both goals for the Pioneers.

Fournier's first goal gave Sacred Heart a 1-0 lead 4:07 into the game from Rocco Molinaro and Noel Henck. The Pioneers lead grew to 2-0 on Fournier's second goal of the period with just 0:38 remaining in the opening frame. Garrett Larson and Ryan Bremner assisted on the goal.

The score remained until 10:10 of the second period when Andrew Dawe put the Golden Griffins on the board from Daryl Pierce and Jon Durno.

It was still a 2-1 game when Canisius pulled goaltender Bryan Worosz for the extra attacked with one-minute remaining in regulation. That move paid off when Billy Irish-Baker tied the game with 0:34 remaining in the third period.

The game went to overtime where each team had a chance to get the win, but were unable to break the deadlock and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Pioneers goaltender Kevin LaPointe made 30 saves while Worosz made 25 saves in net for Canisius.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The opening face-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
