NHL Legend Scotty Bowman to Appear at Sacred Heart's Hockey Banquet
April 11, 2005
FAIRFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey program, and head coach Shaun Hannah, have announced that NHL coaching legend Scotty Bowman will appear as the guest speaker at the team's annual year-end banquet, celebrating a season of excellence on the ice, in the classroom and in the community.
Bowman has coached in, and won, more games than any other coach in NHL history in both the regular season and playoffs. His nine Stanley Cup victories as a coach are second to none, as he has led four franchises to 13 appearances in the Stanley Cup finals with nine victories. He most recently led the Detroit Red Wings to their third Stanley Cup victory in six seasons in 2002, the first of which snapped a 42-year drought for the Red Wings. He has also coached the Montreal Canadians and Pittsburgh Penguins to hockey's ultimate prize and Bowman won a tenth Stanley Cup as Pittsburgh's Director of Player Personnel in 1991.
The banquet will be held on Tuesday, April 26th at the Trumbull Marriott. The festivities begin at 6:00 PM with dinner being served at 7:00 PM followed by the awards presentation where the team will announce their year-end awards including Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and the Peter Downey Award as well as Community Service award and Scholar Athlete awards. The team will also honor their departing seniors, Ryan Bremner, Barclay Folk, Garrett Larson, Kevin LaPointe, and Patrick Sullivan. The awards presentation will be followed by the keynote speech from Bowman and a memorabilia auction and raffle.
Tickets for the event are just $60 for adults and $35 for Sacred Heart Students and children under 13 years old. For more information or to reserve your seat you can contact Coach Hannah directly at (203) 876-2480 or visit the teams website at www.SacredHeartPioneers.com.
