Canisius' Worosz Named USCHO.com Defensive Player of the Week
November 23, 2004
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius College senior goaltender Bryan Worosz (Brantford, Ont.) picked up his third award of the week, after being named the USCHO/ITECH Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday after leading the Griffs to a weekend sweep of visiting Connecticut. Worosz led the Griffs to a 4-0 shutout victory Friday evening and a 5-1 win Saturday. On Monday, Worosz was honored as the InsideCollegeHockey.com National Player of the Week and Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week.
Last week’s Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week, Worosz was a virtual stonewall for the Griffs posting 66 saves on 67 shots over the weekend, including a 30-save shutout Friday night. For the weekend, Worosz posted a .985 save percentage and a 0.50 GAA. Worosz is ranked eighth in the nation in goals against (1.92) and seventh in save percentage (.936).
Worosz is the second Canisius player to earn the USCHO/ITECH Defensive Player of the Week award. Former Griff Sean Weaver earned the award during the 1999-2000 season. Worosz is the first Golden Griffin to be awarded the INCH Player of the Week award. In Atlantic Hockey, he was previously awarded the Goaltender of the Week on Oct. 25, and Player of the Week on Nov. 15.
Canisius is back on the ice Nov. 27, when the team travels to Cornell to face the Big Red. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
