Madison, WI - Mercyhurst took #6/#8 Wisconsin to the wire Friday before falling 3-2. Saturday night, the Badgers took the drama out of the game in the third period, scoring five times in an 8-0 win over the Lakers at the Kohl Center. Wisconsin improved to 2-0 on the young season while the Lakers dropped to 0-2.
The Badgers got scoring from seven different players with sophomore forward Jake Dowell the lone player with two.
Wisconsin led 1-0 after a period on a goal by freshman forward Matt Auffrey. The Badgers extended the margin to 3-0 after forty minutes thanks to power play tallies from sophomore forwards Jake Dowell and Ross Carlson. UW put the game away with five more scores in the third.
Mercyhurst sophomore goaltender Mike Ella (Schomberg, Ontario), making his first collegiate start, was the victim of the Wisconsin attack. The Badgers outshot Mercyhurst 43-18 and converted three power play chances.
